Hi all, has anyone else started a new thread yet?

OP posts:
Gally123 · 28/06/2022 18:58

@Chrissols - when the surprising thing is that we are still there as well! As I doubt many of the new people stay with the low pay and the odd and often downright rude feedback.

Chrissols · 28/06/2022 19:05

@Gally123 yes, you would think there would be a little recognition for ‘staying power’

Meha5a · 29/06/2022 07:41

@Chrissols personally I think there should be a line rise, bonuses, medals and a huge round of applause at 8 pm every night from them 🤣🤣

Chrissols · 29/06/2022 08:33

@Meha5a i couldn’t agree more about the line rise, it would only be like working up an incremental scale and seems fair

Gally123 · 29/06/2022 09:33

@Meha5a - I would just love to see her who should not be named giving us a round of applause at 8pm (or indeed any time)

Meha5a · 29/06/2022 11:10

@Gally123 🤣🤣

Whitestar55 · 29/06/2022 11:55

One of the criteria for self-employed status is that you are able to get someone else to do your work for you. To get round this DICT8 state that this must be in prior arrangement and agreement with themselves. Not that I want someone else to do my work, but I wonder if anyone has approached them to do this and what the outcome was.

I'm a bit fascinated with the way businesses are set up and operated, at the moment, just in case anybody might not have guessed, 🙂!

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 29/06/2022 13:51

@Meha5a I think they'd actually agree to giving a round of applause, hoping we'd be satisfied with that instead of extra dosh. 😂 It wouldn't work though, just the like the emails saying how our work was done to a high standard didn't fool us.

OP posts:
Meha5a · 30/06/2022 10:03

Had lots of letters over the last month where people are going to private consultants then being transferred over to their NHS lists, then being seen within "six weeks" !!!! I thought this, "jump the NHS waiting list", was stopped years ago.

Whitestar55 · 30/06/2022 13:17

I don't know about anyone else, but I suspect that they have taken on new transcribers and given them just one specialty, which then leaves those of us with multiple specialties being left with access only to the rubbish dictation due to the way the system works. The more experience you have doing this the worse things get for you!

@Meha5a I've noticed the private versus NHS thing too, I think people are just desperate. It's such a shame the NHS has been allowed to go downhill in this way.

OP posts:
Meha5a · 30/06/2022 13:51

@Whitestar55 I blame the consultants for facilitating a silent half-private/half-NHS tier backdoor (all down to greed). I think it is unfair on the those who do not have the funds, and of course if there is a way round NHS waiting times of course people are going to go for it in desperation.

danblack87 · 30/06/2022 15:31

In my past I worked for private consultants and INDEED the abuse of transferring from Private to NHS was abused. So, for instance a patient is waiting on the NHS for surgery and they were told there was a 9-12 month wait list for surgery NHS. See the same Consultant (as seen by NHS privately at a cost of circa £150 - transfer from Private to NHS and they could jump the queue by 7 months - disgusting behaviour. My work for private consultants was lucrative for me at £17/hour but I just could not negotiate the disparity in my head re. jumping queues AND it still happens. ALL patients should be treated exactly the same. SO, you see someone privately, hey ho, you don't have private insurance and that gives you the right paying £120/£140/£200 to jump ahead of more urgent cases within the NHS 'FUCK THAT' it is disgusting. So I went self employed with Dict8, I do have a conscience.

danblack87 · 30/06/2022 15:36

@Meha5a It is/was pure greed and I will not have anything to do with that = have not done so for more than 12 years now/ DISGUSTING, like I said

danblack87 · 30/06/2022 15:38

@Gally123 : I don't want a round of applause I would simply like 9p or 10p per line. We are exploited.

danblack87 · 30/06/2022 15:54

Sorry people bad day for me and I just needed rant!! The people who do not have private insurance are poorly left behind. Believe me if people had XX £'s to pay for a private consultation knowing that they can jump a long surgical queue wouldn't we all? It is just not a fair system and annoys me greatly and at times, yes, it made me cry. My aim with Dict8 is to get the letters out in the fastest possible time ... where I worked the back log was horrendous - no one NHS should have to wait 2-3 months for a consultation letter to be typed. Private secretary letters go out no later than 2 days. I am happy with what I do. I just think we should be paid in accordance to that.

danblack87 · 30/06/2022 16:02

One more thing , for those secretaries who work for NHS who also work for private consultant(s) should be sacked (I know of quite a few who would take a 'sick day' and get paid for that NHS + get paid from private consultant's in order for the private patients' letters to go out in quick time. Absolutely now scruples or care.

Workingfromhomenow · 30/06/2022 17:40

@danblack87 Or just do it during their 9-5 in the NHS, which I have witnessed too. We’re better off out of it.

Meha5a · 30/06/2022 18:53

@danblack87 @Workingfromhomenow totally agree. Witnessed many secretaries doing their private work in NHS time etc.

Also I worked privately for consultants who took NHS time to do private work, so much for the Hippocratic Oath !!!

Whitestar55 · 01/07/2022 16:49

Dear DICT8.

As a self-employed contractor I'm putting my rates up to 10 pence per line of 65 characters. This is due to the cost of living rise and the unpaid aspects of the work I 'm expected to do for you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

The alternative is that I will go on strike, as claiming universal credit would be more lucrative.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 01/07/2022 18:19

@Whitestar55 - I do not think that will work now there is the automated invoice that sets the line rate.

Meha5a · 01/07/2022 18:43

@Whitestar55 PS DICT8: If you don't put the money up I will cutout the middle man and go direct to source, thus giving myself even more of a wage rise 👋

👏Yes, we'll set up the Mumsnet Transcription Cooperative, where the workers get fair pay and the shares, and not the silent directors and shareholders.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 01/07/2022 19:48

@Whitestar55 if you call it "Mumsnet Transcription Cooperative" I think that Mumsnet the company might want a cut of the money, possibly for using a trademarked name.

I know, I was joking about the name 😊. Also I forgot to add, WE'LL DO OUR OWN PROOFREADING TOO! 😂
