JOB HUNT CLUB - support thread for those looking!

After finding a few others looking for a new job - here it is - the 2008 job club. Not planning to find you a job - more a support thread for people struggling to find a job!

So a few details will be needed:

age, area, job type, hours, thoughts

I'll go first:
35
Bath/Wilts
Teaching, education or self employed
Flexible - must do school drop off/holidays

Thoughts: most jobs that pay enough seem to be full time which can't do as must do school drop off. Seem to relatively over qualified for most jobs that aren't in education. Can't find anything interesting to do from home.

Thanks CD

Just gone through local paper, and found 2 possibles. The first is a dinner supervisors job at a local private school, but would only make me about £20 a week better off.

The second is a fab job and I want it. It is for a gp's receptionist and is says no experiance required as full training given, although it does require a good level of general education, which might be a stumbling block as my exam results weren't great. It is 20 hours a week with sick and holiday pay, and I am tempted to ring them and beg .

Seriously though i'd love it. Have to send CV and covering letter.

nutcracker · 19/01/2008 17:42

What have you applied for Pelvic ??

I am just tinkering with my CV at the mo.

Beauregard · 19/01/2008 17:44

CaptainDippy · 19/01/2008 20:05

Job sounds good Nutcracker - happy begging!

Really hope you get something, PFMN. xx

FarcicalAlienQueen · 21/01/2008 12:00

Well - I still have my two applications (aldi's and Wilkinsons) to fill in/do.

Pressure is off slightly to find something before the end of next week - as DH has got a decent(ish) bonus this month. If I'd found a job then some of the surplus would have been going to replace out old knackered dishwasher that's been broken since before Christmas.....but we've decided to hang onto the money as "contingency" fund for end of February if I haven't found anything soon.

I'm completely stuck on my Wilkinsons application, and doing my Cv (even though lovely Nutcracker sent me a copy of hers to use as a template) and a covering letter for the Aldi's job

Octothechildherder · 21/01/2008 15:11

Queen - I am quite a good reader person if you want me to read over something and make suggestions (its a teacher thing!)

I have applied for a job as an education officer - dealing with the allocation of sen support - pays £34-36K interviews on 2 weeks - if I get that far! They work flexi hours - but must do 37 hours and should be able to do school drop off which would be good. Quite excited again - but after the last interview am not going to get over-excited! Very disappointed still about the last job.

Still going through the supply teaching clearance thing for the county council - didn't realise it would take so long with the paperwork .

Anyone had any more success?

Octothechildherder · 21/01/2008 15:11

Queen - you could try freecycle for a dishwasher.

FAQ · 21/01/2008 15:45

thanks Octo - have to confess I've pushed it out of the way today - been busy trying to get our Easter stuff sorted for church!

I know I could try freecycle for a dishwasher -but I want a new one.....so we shall just hold onto the money for contingency - and then if we don't need to us it for food at the end of Feb buy it then - otherwise I'll just wait for the money from my Granddad's estate to come through

CaptainDippy · 21/01/2008 22:24

You sound like you are sorting out in your head FAQ, sensible lady!

Jon should be advertised Wed at latest - sooo nervous, sooo want this job .....

Oooooh, Octo that sounds promising! @the wages!! arse to paperwork for supply teaching!

How's everyone else getting on??

Beauregard · 22/01/2008 20:57

Hi

I have an interview on monday at 10.am.

To be honest it is not really a job i 'want' to do but would do it if i had to iykwim?
I need a way of rehearsing something polite just incase they do want me.Something like "I'm not in a position to commit immediately due to the awaiting redundancy but could you keep me on the books for the future please?"

Does that sound ok?

Beauregard · 22/01/2008 20:59

Sorry if that sounded very negative.

When i applied it was purely for a safety net so to speak.

CaptainDippy · 23/01/2008 11:53

Sounds fine to me, PFNM

CaptainDippy · 23/01/2008 12:12

Just recieved Application Pack for a job I WANT!!! It is quite a bit different from the job described to me last week, which makes me and ; but it is better than nothing, very flexible and something I KNOW I'll be good at - So here goes ......

Unfortunately, even if I DO get this fab job - I'll still have to look for something else P/T to do on top .....

Humph.

How is everyone else doing??

Octothechildherder · 23/01/2008 14:56

I have been to the local schools to sign up for supply and may start next week. The closing date for the £££ job is not until monday and then interviews the following monday ...

Octothechildherder · 25/01/2008 14:49

I did my first supply this morning and it was great to be back at work

It was a revelation and the freedom was great!

Beauregard · 27/01/2008 23:54

Well done Octo ,gosh that was quick.

I have that interview in the morning

CaptainDippy · 28/01/2008 12:31

Brilliant Ocot xxxx

Application form for job I WANT all filled in and sent off - found out today that I automatically get an interview cos I am already doing part of the job on a voluntary basis - bonus! Interviews on Thurs Feb 14th.

Any news from anyone else??

CaptainDippy · 28/01/2008 12:35

Octo obviously

Hope interview has gone ok, PFMN - Let us know. xxxx

Beauregard · 28/01/2008 21:33

Hi

The interview went well, was very relaxed etc.

Basically she said that once my CRB has cleared and she has discussed me with her manager then they would be in touch but she said she was very impressed and wouldn't hesitate to get me on the books.

Like i said it isn't an ideal job for me really as i am very a inexperienced driver (only passed Dec)and the job involves regular calls.
I am glad that i went though as it is good experience and if need be i can consider it if nothing else works out.

I have also requested 2 further applications elsewhere so more options available too.And am arranging a session with a Biscom advisor at my current workplace and Jobcentre plus.

Quite a productive day today.

Beauregard · 28/01/2008 21:34

That sounds quite promising Captaindippy!

Beauregard · 28/01/2008 23:23

ooh just found the best job on the job centre website.
Will call tomorrow.
