JOB HUNT CLUB - support thread for those looking!

After finding a few others looking for a new job - here it is - the 2008 job club. Not planning to find you a job - more a support thread for people struggling to find a job!

So a few details will be needed:

age, area, job type, hours, thoughts

I'll go first:
35
Bath/Wilts
Teaching, education or self employed
Flexible - must do school drop off/holidays

Thoughts: most jobs that pay enough seem to be full time which can't do as must do school drop off. Seem to relatively over qualified for most jobs that aren't in education. Can't find anything interesting to do from home.

OP posts:

Can I join?
Age 36
Bedfordshire
Been for quite a few jobs and after the interviews, asked for honest feedback only to be told I was shortlisted but lost out to someone with more experience.
Soo, after the last one, I've decided that I'll do some volunteer work at a local middle school (don't really want to work with littlies), helping out the textile technician.
When I enquired the head of the Art Dept wanted to know if that is the area of work I would be interested in. Ohhh yes, was my reply, so I'm now waiting for a CRB clearance.
No idea whether I would have to go into further ed to do it as a job, so as soon as I start, I'm going to find out.

CaptainDippy · 11/01/2008 20:36

Part-Time, 2 days a week, daytime hrs. No one wants to employ me.

rantinghousewife · 11/01/2008 20:37

If they list jobshare as an option, then surely you are in with a fighting chance.

CaptainDippy · 11/01/2008 20:39

Only I'm fighting with a floppy cucumber and they've got a great big marrow.

mochaccino · 11/01/2008 20:39

has anyone tried kleeneze?

we are doing it and it works wonders. You can do it part time, full time, flexi time. you work for yourself from home

CaptainDippy · 11/01/2008 20:40

My analogy was pertaining to swords and not willies btw

CaptainDippy · 11/01/2008 20:41

Mocha - I'd rather stick pins in my eyes, I'm afraid.

sorry to sound flippant - just in that sort of mood today.

Sorry.

mochaccino · 11/01/2008 20:43

haha no worries.

I thought it was for fruit loops too, until i looked a bit more closely.

Its enabling me to work part-time in acocunts and have my daughter with me on the other days, so i'm happy

Beauregard · 11/01/2008 20:43

I agree with Rantinghousewifehello btw, that the jobshare thing could accomodate your hours.

One of the companies that i called this morning were advertising for full time and part time staff but although i am looking for part time hours i can only work afternoons or evenings due to childcare(have to wait until dp finishes work)The woman i spoke to said that i could just put a cover note in with the application and she said that i certainly shouldn't let it put me off applying.
So jobshare may be ideal for you.

CaptainDippy · 11/01/2008 20:46

I know, Mocha - I just couldn't be dealing with that whole delivery, collecting, commission based stuff - I just want a job where I can go into work, do my job, come home and get a salary into my account each month. No faff. No strings. No effort.

Unrealistic!!?

Probably.

mochaccino · 11/01/2008 20:46

must go my daughter has just woken up...
if you want to see more go to www.we-pay.co.uk/16

mochaccino · 11/01/2008 20:47

its not so bad, but takes a bit of effort in the beginning.

I know what you mean about the no strings, thats what i was looking for. but i gave up and started temping part-time.

jobs for parents are limited and it sucks!

CaptainDippy · 11/01/2008 20:50

SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rantinghousewife · 11/01/2008 20:52

I'm not sure I'd do the Kleeneze thing simply because we have so many of them around here. Not sure you'd make much with all the competition.

mochaccino · 11/01/2008 20:54

i'm back and she is settled! bad sleeper

ranting - we have about 5 people in our area and it still works for us.

it actually made it easier because the customers knew what they had to do and didnt waste our time!

plus most distributors are just dropping to their customer base anyway not all the houses on the street

rantinghousewife · 11/01/2008 20:56

Might be an idea, we don't need the cash but, I miss having my own money. Want to spend it without having to announce to the household that I'm buying something.

mochaccino · 11/01/2008 20:58

my partner was a director and he left his job before christmas coz he couldnt be bothered to do all the hours under the sun for a pay rise just slightly above inflation

CaptainDippy · 11/01/2008 21:01

Can't belive you just said we don't need the cash.

mochaccino · 11/01/2008 21:05

my mum always said don't knock it til you tried it - haha i'm starting to sound like an old gal

well all i can say is it works for us. if you dont get how it works go to www.fastforwardopportunity.com which gives more info on how the pay plan works, if you want an info pack go to www.we-pay.co.uk

mochaccino · 11/01/2008 21:07

oops i meant www.we-pay.co.uk/16

anywayz...

does anyone know if having the AAT qualification would benefit me. is it widely recognised?

rantinghousewife · 11/01/2008 21:11

Opps sorry CD is that a faux pas!
A little extra is always welcome but we bought a smaller house for less than we could afford, just so we didn't have to struggle.
However, if I can manage to get a full time job, we can afford to extend, which will be a relief because we are fast outgrowing this house and I don't want to move.
AAT is accountancy qualification isn't it? At my old firm they would take on people with AAT quals, no problem.

CaptainDippy · 11/01/2008 21:13

No it is just difficult to hear someone say something like that when we are struggling so much.

Anyway I am going to bed before I offend the whole of MN or something.

Sorry. Just feeling shitty tonight.

mochaccino · 11/01/2008 21:21

yeah its an accountancy qualification.

I need to work in accounts - which i am - to get the qualification, just wasnt sure if it was worth me going down that path or not

rantinghousewife · 11/01/2008 21:21

CD, sorry. Feel a bit bad now!

CaptainDippy · 12/01/2008 09:40

Tis ok, I am just a bit atm tbh....
