JOB HUNT CLUB - support thread for those looking!

Octo · 07/01/2008 17:45

After finding a few others looking for a new job - here it is - the 2008 job club. Not planning to find you a job - more a support thread for people struggling to find a job!

So a few details will be needed:

age, area, job type, hours, thoughts

I'll go first:
35
Bath/Wilts
Teaching, education or self employed
Flexible - must do school drop off/holidays

Thoughts: most jobs that pay enough seem to be full time which can't do as must do school drop off. Seem to relatively over qualified for most jobs that aren't in education. Can't find anything interesting to do from home.

OP posts:

Me neither!

Glad you said something to Mocha too - it was starting to really irrate me too - Like I said before: I would rather stick pins in my eyes than work for Kleenezee!

I am not normally like this. Honest.

Must be the hormones.

Interview today at 1.30pm - just hoping it is sales-based, commission only, pyramid sales rubbish!

When will you hear back, Octo? - LOL at you "talking too much" - You!!? ^Never!*

FarcicalAlienQueen · 15/01/2008 10:09

oh well - I'm gutted - got a phone call 1/2hr ago from a lady at a job I applied for 2 weeks ago - it was a morning cleaning job - 4hrs a day 5 times a week, 40 weeks a year.....was ideal.......she offered me a job there and then on the phone......

problem is the morning job has gone and she was offering me the evening vacancy from 6-9pm - which I just CAN'T do

CaptainDippy · 15/01/2008 11:17

{{{{hugs}}}}

FarcicalAlienQueen · 15/01/2008 12:20

The hunt goes on - and time is running out [worried]

Octothechildherder · 15/01/2008 12:41

Octothechildherder · 15/01/2008 19:24

Is it wednesday yet? Will someone please put me out of my misery!

Pesha · 15/01/2008 21:43

Have just skimmed through thread as was thinking of joining but not sure my headis in the right place to be talking about job search things iyswim but will keep lurking for tips!!

Oh and I think divided self meant with she sells sea shells you often get your start letters muddled up. I think perhaps she's muddling up the start letters of 'job hunt club' and coming up with something rather ruder!

Although I could be wrong and it could just be me with the dirty mind

CaptainDippy · 16/01/2008 11:44

Probably Pesha!!

Went to interview at Estate Agents - was exactly what I thought it would be - commission-based stuff So the hunt continues .....

Hope you hear back soooon Octo!!!

Welcome btw Pesha!!

Octothechildherder · 16/01/2008 13:53

Sorry about job Dippy

Welcome Pesha

Still waiting ...

Octothechildherder · 16/01/2008 17:13

I didn;t get it - they wanted someone with mroe adlt teaching experience - kind of got that impression from the interview tbh. But they did give great feedback and said if I got some adult teaching experience - they would think again.

Kind of thinking should continue looking now am in the swing of it - and may have found a nanny!

At least that hideous waiting is over.

FarcicalAlienQueen · 17/01/2008 13:23

aww - sorry you didn't get the job

CaptainDippy · 17/01/2008 14:30

Arse Octo - hoping something even better comes up soon sweetie. xx

Beauregard · 17/01/2008 21:11

oh sorry Octo and Dippy

I have filled in 2 online applications and have 2 paper ones to do[sigh]i really can't get my head in gear.
Has been a crap day and i don't have the mental space/energy to do them, trouble is i was the same last night and the night before, hope i don't miss the closing dates.

Octothechildherder · 18/01/2008 10:18

Oh pelvicfloor - hope you feel better soon xxxx

Dippy - what is this job?????

I have decided to do supply teaching. Have rung a few schools and joined an agency.

FarcicalAlienQueen · 18/01/2008 10:18

I have an application for to fill in for a job at Wilkinsons - got one of those "are you this type of person or that type or person" things on it - urghhh.

Plus I have to write a covering letter (WTF is one of those - what do I put in it???) and get my CV sorted to apply for a job at Aldi - according to their website they pay aroud £7.50-8.60hr! But the ad in the paper say c£9hr

CaptainDippy · 18/01/2008 11:00

Think you should taking it up with them FAQ - I hate those psychometric testing thingy too - absolute rubbish. xx

Hope you are feeling better & a bit more positive today PFNM - know those feelings you described exactly. xx

OK, here goes ....

I have found a perfect (I hope ) job & I want it!!!! I am currently voluntarily Antenatal Bookings Officer for our local NCT branch ... the long and short of it is, all bookings for Antenatal Courses are going centralised as of the end of March and they are going to pay people to organise and book etc Antenatal courses covering the area in which they live and surrounding areas - It will be a homeworking position for 20ish hrs a week and it is just perfect for me and I know I would be really good at it! Downsides are, I don't know how much it going to pay atm and I think there is going to be a lot of competition for the posts ..... Advert comes out on Monday, so I'll be filling in application Monday night!! Feeling excited, but too. xx

There's also a company in my area advertised on Workingmums.net that would like a home-working PA type person, so applying for that too .....

Octothechildherder · 18/01/2008 14:33

ooh dippy - that sounds perfect - may apply for the one around here Where will the advert be? Is it a national one?

I dn;t have to pay £50 to have my CRB re-done as was on maternity leave and not simply not working which is fab news. But do need to register with General Teaching Council again which is £33.

Have looked at pay scale for supply staff and am looking at about £21.00 per hour - which is great - easily covers childcare and petrol. I don't get paid for lucnh/break but if work 8.30 - 3.30 - thats about 6 hours - so £120.00 a day (minus pension, NI & tax) Am only going to do it in Wilts so can contribute to my pension which I froze about 7 years ago when left teaching.

I have a school already lined up - where I used to work - should be able to start there asap, an interview at a supply agency on weds and at another local secondary school next friday

If it works it will be really good

Beauregard · 18/01/2008 19:46

That sounds like a great job Dippy,go for it

Ugh well i tried to get organised with the two applications i had left to fill in (one of which has to be back mon)All was going well until i realised through sheer tiredness and the dd's squealing and crying that on the one i hadn't filled most of it in Block capitals and a section where it asked a list of questions such as Car driver ? underneath it said qualification(s) and i listed my qualifications ,doh!.
Can i put tipex on it do you know?
I am also struggling with sickness record it asks for exact stuff which i don't know.

And i got a response form the one application i did online ......i have not been successful

CaptainDippy · 18/01/2008 22:47

Sounds great Octo - -

{{{{PFNM}}}}}} - I hate filling in application forms with a passion. You poor thing. I am sure it is fine to use Tipex - I am always making crappy mistakes. Sorry about the on-line job too. There is light at the end of the tunnel .......

mochaccino · 19/01/2008 08:23

Hi, I am looking for a job in accounts part-time

CaptainDippy · 19/01/2008 09:03

Hi Mocha! Are yo ugoing to stop trying to sell Kleeneazee to us now!!? Happy to support you in your endevour!

nutcracker · 19/01/2008 09:11

Can I join please ?

Age 29
Birmingham
3 kids
Single mum
Don't drive
No qualifications to speak of
Looking for anything part time, about 20 hours
Cannot be ultra flexible wrt hours, which seems to be a no go with most employers right from the off.

Recently applied for clerical assistants job in hospital, which was aiming a bit high I think, but as they didn't specifically request qualifications, I thought i'd give it a go.

donbean · 19/01/2008 09:24

Katymac, i think that your advert is too busy.
I think that you may get more applicants if you just put that the hours are varied, then discuss when they either come for informal visit or ring to ask about the hours.

I just think that by putting SO many hours then adding that the hours can be flexible is a bit contradictory. The hours you state are very specific, yet you then add flexibiity.
To get them interested, keep it simple as if you are writting it for a small newspaper ad.
ps...this nursery has been going on forever! whan will it finally be finished?
Feel like Sarah Beany!

donbean · 19/01/2008 09:25

Can any of you do links to job websites?

CaptainDippy · 19/01/2008 11:29

Helo nutcracker - Welcome!

Will do some links later DB.
