JOB HUNT CLUB - support thread for those looking!

Octo · 07/01/2008 17:45

After finding a few others looking for a new job - here it is - the 2008 job club. Not planning to find you a job - more a support thread for people struggling to find a job!

So a few details will be needed:

age, area, job type, hours, thoughts

I'll go first:
35
Bath/Wilts
Teaching, education or self employed
Flexible - must do school drop off/holidays

Thoughts: most jobs that pay enough seem to be full time which can't do as must do school drop off. Seem to relatively over qualified for most jobs that aren't in education. Can't find anything interesting to do from home.

Octothechildherder · 08/01/2008 22:16

So am going to ditch the sainsburys idea altogether.

Pelvic - when are you being made redundant and where from? What do you do?

CaptainDyson · 08/01/2008 22:30

Arse.

Beauregard · 08/01/2008 22:37

Hi sorry was job hunting,lol.

I don't have an exact redundancy date yet but notice has been served on the service i work for so it is impending.
I work in the community for the NHS supporting adults with severe learning disabilities and challenging behaviours.
I only work part time but i love my job
I can only work afternoons ,evenings ,weekends.

Octothechildherder · 08/01/2008 22:39

Oh no - I have seen quite a few jobs doing that around here - what do you enjoy about it? I have worked with SEN pupils at secondary level but not adults.

Beauregard · 08/01/2008 22:43

I have only ever done care work.
I like to be part of a team.
I love helping people,to feel useful.
I love to see the small differences you can make to peoples lives.
I just love care work ,i do admit though i am in the wrong job to be financially well off.
I would love to train ,loads of things i would like to do relevant to my work but i can't afford to.

Octothechildherder · 08/01/2008 23:06

thats a great list pelvicfloor hopefully something will come up soon - where have you been looking? I have been looking on county council websites, job centre plus websites and 'this is ... '(Bath/Bristol) websites.

Beauregard · 08/01/2008 23:10

I have been looking on local worcestershire sites, county council, fish 4 jobs.
I just type in anything care related and look there.
I have found one job and have the online application started (will fill in gradually)
The problem i have is that in my line of work it is difficult to accomodate my hours. Most companys expect you to work anytime of day and sleep in duties which i can not do.
Also as i don't yet have a date of closure it makes a leaving date difficult.

Octothechildherder · 08/01/2008 23:11

Do you want to stay and get your redundancy or if a job came up would you just go for it?

Beauregard · 08/01/2008 23:13

I suppose if the right job came up i would just go but the redundancy is pretty close i imagine within the next couple of months if not sooner.

CaptainDyson · 09/01/2008 10:13

There's usually loads of care work around, PFNM - Excellent list

Have just downloaded a couple of application forms for P/T admin type jobs, both working for local Council. I just feel so demoralised though - I hate filling in these crappy forms and then either not getting an interview or not getting the job .. on and on and on ....

Poop.

MozzybearBaileysIce · 09/01/2008 16:29

Hello,

Am looking for job as I left my last one due to the shocking way my office manager spoke to me.

Will do anything essentially, full/part time SW Scotland or Cumbria. Do havea degree, but not in a very sensible subject!

I really struggle on the personal profile part of application forms. Have one for Admin job at the moment and I'm stuck!

CaptainDyson · 09/01/2008 17:32

Oooooh, what degree!? Join the club - Sorry you've had such a nasty experience. Gives your confidence a real knock, doesn't it!? xx

MozzybearBaileysIce · 09/01/2008 20:24

Still not sure what it is I would like to do. I keep thinking about nursing. I think thats what I should have done all along.

Anyone got any news?

CaptainDyson · 09/01/2008 22:55

No news, but part of my degree was in Media too - bloody huge waste of time; but had a great time!

Beauregard · 10/01/2008 12:20

bump

MozzybearBaileysIce · 10/01/2008 13:44

lol, Adventures with a Camera, Boom Mic and lots of leads that you're not entirely sure you need.

Have been researching how to fill in my person specification part. Have the theory, not sure what examples to use.

Octothechildherder · 10/01/2008 22:44

any more?

I have my interview on monday and my absence on the thread has mainly been due to a phenomenal flap over what to teach!!! argghhh

Need to get head round it asap!

Octothechildherder · 10/01/2008 22:45

Oh and talktothebees

CaptainDyson · 11/01/2008 10:55

Are you any further ahead with your plan of what to teach, Octo!!?

I have an interview on Tues pm with a new Estate Agents for a "Sales Associate" - if it any sort of commission-based, pyramid-sales crap, I am outta there .....

Got the interview through the www.workingmums.co.uk site that is advertised here on MN - So worth filling in!!

Beauregard · 11/01/2008 14:07

Hi i have some application forms coming, they aren't ideally the type of work i am looking for(agency community work)but i shall fill them in to test the water.

Octo-Are you feeling nervous about interview?,i know i would be.

CaptainDippy · 11/01/2008 20:24

I've seen some jobs, which might be ok - they are full-time, but list jobshare as an option - Do you guys think I should try or do you think it will just be massive great big fat waste of time and energy. At the mo, I am leaning to the latter; but could be persuaded otherwise - Give me some love and confidence guys, I just feeling so useless and low right now.

Beauregard · 11/01/2008 20:30

Aw Captain don't feel useless you certainly aren't.

What sort of hours were you wanting to do?
