Pay with Dict8

juju1507 · 09/03/2015 09:19

I have been working s/e with Dict8 for 3 years now and my payment by cheques are arriving later and later. My last cheque arrived 8 days after it was issued and I noticed they are now sending cheques second class. Does anyone else work for Dict8 on here and, if so, are you finding that your cheque is arriving much later than it used to? I have direct debits set up deliberately for the middle of the month in order that my cheque would have cleared in time but now I am worrying that even by 15th of each month the cheque will not have cleared. Sorry for the ramble but just curious if others have noticed this.

OK, got a reply claiming they haven't received my invoice yet - posted first class on Tuesday. So assuming they process it on Monday, because I'm pretty sure they don't work on Saturdays, I still won't have any money until Friday, which is a whole week from now.

Their system is ridiculous. I'm really angry about this now.

Gally123 · 03/04/2020 16:29

@IamVictoria - have they asked you to send in your invoice again, assuming it is lost in the post?
Or have they agreed you can email in a replacement?
Or are you just hoping it will turn up on Monday?

It is a ridiculous system posting invoices - especially as they probably know how many lines we have typed anyway and can calculate pay accordingly.

IamVictoria · 03/04/2020 16:38

@Gally123 no, they just said they haven't received it yet but they've noticed the post has been slower, and also that they don't work weekends.

MiHa5 · 03/04/2020 16:55

In my boredom I found this company TypeOut online might give them a try, anyone know the reasonable per minute charge as they give you a choice from 50p up to 80p ?

Lucylizzy123 · 03/04/2020 17:00

I suppose they will take advantage of "slower post" by delaying actually posting out the cheques from their end too wont they. I do think they treat their transcribers with little regard. Without the transcribers they would have no business. We are all working towards the same goal surely. A bit more respect and help in these times would be helpful.

ElleBee56 · 03/04/2020 19:07

@IamVictoria I've just checked and my cheque hasn't been processed either. Some years ago when we had bad snow and no post collections I asked if I could email my invoice and they agreed. This system of posting invoices and paying by cheque is beyond ridiculous now! I'm going to email on Monday and ask if they've received my invoice and if not can I email it. On a different note TPro have emailed explaining their situation and how they've launched a free virtual clinic so that doctors can continue their clinics with the hope that as their use of the virtual clinic increase so will typing increase. Dict8 could learn a lot from this company.

IamVictoria · 03/04/2020 19:44

My printer broke down once and I asked them if I could email the invoice in just that once because it was an emergency and they refused; I had to put it on a thumb drive and schlep down to the library, and then go out and buy another one. They're not accommodating at all.

ElleBee56 · 03/04/2020 20:59

@IamVictoria they seem to be going from bad to worse. I can't see any reason why they won't let us email invoices and pay by BACS. I can only assume there's some financial benefit for them, it certainly doesn't benefit us transcribers though! Some certainty would be useful, especially where direct debit payments are concerned.

juju1507 · 04/04/2020 09:59

@ElleBee56 I have had the same email from TPro and agree they are far more organised and far more advanced than Dict8 when it comes to invoices and payment.
If my cheque from Dict 8 has not been processed by midday Monday I am going to ask to email my invoice too. If a global pandemic won't alter their way of thinking there is not much hope for us, is there? I'm sure their own wages went in as normal!! Basically, they don't give a hoot about us, we are just a means to an end for the directors to earns pots of money.

OP posts:
ElleBee56 · 04/04/2020 10:25

@juju1507 I think the directors have their fingers in a few pies. I googled them a while ago and they have other businesses. You're right, we are a means to an end for they and considering one of them is a doctor he's certainly not too concerned about the people who are his bread and butter.

Hi, A bit of a change of subject here as seeking advice. I've downloaded ExpressScribe and need to connect my Olympus foot pedal to it. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have the foot pedal connected to both DICT8's system and ExpressScribe without any problems if I need to switch between the two. Thanks

Chrissols · 04/04/2020 16:55

Yes it is possible as mine is used for two different systems. I did get someone to set it up for me though as it drove me mad trying to sort it. Do you know any IT bods?

Whitestar5 · 04/04/2020 17:08

Thanks Chrissols, my daughter is studying for a Master's in computer science and is home with me on the lock down at the moment, so hopefully we should be able to sort it between ourselves. Thanks again.

ScapaFlo · 04/04/2020 18:14

I couldn't use one pedal for Express Scribe and Olympus a couple of years ago, so I just had two pedals. This wasn't home working though so I didn't have to pay

Gally123 · 05/04/2020 08:43

My sister who works in Sainburys on a Saturday said she was talking to a postman yesterday who told her there are massive problems and delays with post now - they are no longer allowed to share vans and there are not enough vans to go around, and in the sorting depots they have less staff working as they have staggered their working hours so less people working at any given time. So delays to both invoices and pay cheques, as well as other post.

Chrissols · 05/04/2020 09:10

Yes our postman said the same, he said not to expect usual deliveries, in fact yesterday was the first time we had one round us for ten days!

juju1507 · 06/04/2020 10:51

I have emailed them this morning and attached my invoice stating that due to postal deliveries being very hit and miss and that we are in the midst of a global pandemic could they process my cheque accordingly as the mailed invoice will obviously turn up at some point. I also pointed out that as a company that values its transcribers cough it was the least that they could do. No response thus far!

OP posts:
Lucylizzy123 · 06/04/2020 11:07

Well, as anticipated. Cheque was issued on the 2nd April, I have had a postal delivery every day and today the 6th April no cheque has arrived. I wonder if they have actually posted it yet?

juju1507 · 06/04/2020 11:25

They really are rubbish aren't they when it comes to us transcribers. @lucylizzy123 I think they are probably holding onto all cheques that have been processed for as long as possible or even until others invoices arrive. At a time when we are being told we should not be punished for this virus, Dict8 seem to be doing a good job at just that and there is nothing we can do Angry

JanSil · 06/04/2020 12:34

Hi all, I have worked for DICT8 for a short period of time and agree with what has been discussed about the company. On a different note I wonder if all you more established transcribers can advise. I am using the ALT buttons to transcribe at the moment (got used to it now) is there other computer software out there that can be used alongside DICT8 i.e. macros etc, as some of my letters are the same day in day out (well not at the moment as I don't have many either :( )

juju1507 · 07/04/2020 09:08

@JanSil I'm sorry I don't know any other way of typing for Dict8 other than using the ALT buttons but one of the others may be able to help. Sorry!

@ElleBee56 just a quick question about T-Pro - they pay on the 7th of each month by BACS in Euros. I have set up a Revolut account to receive the payment. I obviously don't know which bank you use to receive your payment but roughly how long does it take to go into the account you use? TIA.

OP posts:
Lucylizzy123 · 07/04/2020 10:53

So now 5 days after cheque was processed. Post being delivered daily here, but still no cheque has arrived!!

ElleBee56 · 07/04/2020 11:03

@juju1507 I usually get my payment from TPro some time during the afternoon of the 7th. It's varied between early afternoon to quite late. Is the Revolut account the one where you get the whole amount you've earned, i.e. the bank don't take charges for exchanging euros to pounds? I'm with the Halifax and usually find that I lose around £20 (more or less depending on how much I've earned) with the exchange rate and transfer.

juju1507 · 07/04/2020 11:13

@ElleBee56 Thank you! Revolut is the one that was recommended to me by T-Pro because their exchange ranges are very good so very little is lost when I exchange euros to pounds with them. I then intend to transfer the sterling to my Lloyds account. I will have to keep an eye out for when it appears!
@Lucylizzy123 my cheque was finally processed yesterday although they never bothered to get back to me about my emailed invoice. I am not expecting it before Easter though!
