Work

Pay with Dict8

I have been working s/e with Dict8 for 3 years now and my payment by cheques are arriving later and later. My last cheque arrived 8 days after it was issued and I noticed they are now sending cheques second class. Does anyone else work for Dict8 on here and, if so, are you finding that your cheque is arriving much later than it used to? I have direct debits set up deliberately for the middle of the month in order that my cheque would have cleared in time but now I am worrying that even by 15th of each month the cheque will not have cleared. Sorry for the ramble but just curious if others have noticed this.

Been logged on since 07.15am - absolutely nothing so far. So annoying when I could be getting on with so many other things!

Same for me too alikat55 - not one task yet. Some people seem to have seen an increase in work with some spikes where they've had really productive days. Unfortunately I'm yet to see a good day and never seem to achieve more than the very low 100s - and that's with starting at around 7am and not signing off until after 6pm. I can't understand why I still don't seem to get much work.Confused As ever, I just keep on hoping things are going to improve....tomorrow.

My morning has been quite steady at the moment, just one dropping in at a time, but not too long a wait in between so far......it did this last week though and in the afternoon there was nothing

Yesterday was quiet, in fact the whole of this week has been much quieter than last week and today is just dire.

Yep, dismal here too - only a few very short tasks since early morning.

I tried an earlier start today and have picked up more than usual this morning (not that many I might add, but more than usual). However, the afternoon will be a different case I suspect ... as usual, same old same old. Not seen anything for the last 1/2 hour.

On a different matter - do you find that your family never leave you alone when your working from home ?

On a side topic. I just remembered how I used to deal with difficult dictations about 3 years ago when I had my last job that involved audio typing. If I couldn't figure out something I usually turned to the other secretaries and if they couldn't figure it out either, in absence of the dictating doctor, I would go to nurses or other doctors to see if they could figure out difficult words or phrases. Sometimes, nobody could help, and on really rare occasions, believe it or not, even the dictating doctor struggled with their own dictation. In one of my jobs we also had a huge list of terms relevant to the field of medicine for the times we were faced with unfamiliar terms; since, nobody has all the vocabulary. I say all this because the feedback seems to give the impression that transcribers should be able to hear 'all' of what is dictated. I'm willing to bet that proof readers are able to get input from other colleagues if they can't figure out what is being said on the dictation. Or maybe they are notified of mistakes from the client end?
But sitting on your own in your home with no other person with experience in your field, it's just you and the muffled sounds with no one to try to help you figure out garbled speech. I'm not sure that's taken into consideration when proof reading is being done. Back in the offices I worked in, not being able to hear muffled speech was accepted as a necessary evil due to the limitations of dictation, and the ability to hear or not also depended on the dictating doctor's capacity to be clear and coherent. Because of this, I try not to give too much weight to the feedback regarding specific words I found impossible to hear. I do my best, but after rewinding something 10+ times, you are effectively reducing your own pay by taking longer than necessary to type the letter, and it's essentially an inefficient way of working. It's kind of a no-win situation really.

@Snakes23 - no I don't think they take anything into consideration when proof reading - I have been pulled up for leaving messages "I think your handset may be faulty/might need a clean/service" with faults such as it sticking with missing words not due to operator error but dirty heads (you can tell the difference - dirty heads it sticks every few seconds)and once I left such a message and the next time the dictator was back to good, problem-free dictation, but now you cannot say this, which is wrong as I am not blaming the doctor but the equipment - and sometimes it is equipment error. Hence, I too no longer take to heart what they say, esp when some of it is utter rubbish. I am sure they must get brownie points or something for sending out the most error messages.

@Snakes23 - agree. A consultant I worked for couldn't understand a thing she had said when I played back her audio :) didn't make any difference though !!

@Meha5: re. your previous : I live on my own by my daughter calls me anywhere between 3 and 8 times a day! Plus 3 visits a week lasting about 2 hours a time! She is working from home with Maisie to look after (mon -weds) after that she contacts me all the time ... Bless, COVID lockdown has really got to her - can be frustrating though, specially if it is a good work day !!

It is quiet again this morning. When it suddenly improved at the beginning of the month I thought, good, hospitals are starting to get back to normal, however it has steadily decreased again since then. I am spending more time staring at a blank screen than typing.

Has anyone who was put on hold when applying to T-Pro heard anything from them?
