Student Health Visitor Interview!!

1000 replies

chewie29 · 16/04/2012 14:56

Hi all.
I am currently a staff nurse on maternity leave and I have been very lucky, I have managed to get an interview for a Student Health Visitor Post tomorrow. Has anyone any advice they can give me for the actual interview? I am stressing as it is something I have wanted to do for a long time! I have send by little man over to his nans this afternoon so I can concentrate, I have just been getting more stressed as the day goes on. I have been preparing for the interview for some time but I'm worried my nerves will ruin it for me! Any advice or tips would be great. Thank you.

Has anyone got an interview with Cornwall (interview in Truro)or previously attended an interview with them. It`s my first one and really nervous. Also when they ask questions about HCP what sort of questions will they be likely to ask as the programme is 80 pages long I am dyspraxic and there is so much to prepare for and I fear I will struggle to remember everything.

Lou4148 · 13/04/2013 19:38

tomvie- thanks so much for the information. You've been a huge help to lots of people I'm sure. Only got 2 days before interview so I'll just have to do all I can. It says to take your research with you...?? Not sure what they mean by that. I shall probably get there and forget everything I said on Friday... It's so stressful it's unbelievable.
As far as questions regarding the HCP- I was only asked about the Implementation Plan and they wanted to know what it was and what it stood for, they expected you to know about the HCP but only in as far as what the HV delivers in the 4 tiers of intervention - universal, universal plus etc.
I don't think they expect you to know all of the policies inside out, just how they all fit together but most importantly that you can discuss them in relation to HV practice and the impact the policy has on public health. Also, there was a big emphasis on what you could bring to the role- transferable skills.
Good luck.

Hi all
I've been reading this thread for sometime and finally sorted out my log in details.... :-/
Wonder if anyone has heard from Derby/Notts.... ? The closing date was 1st April and I hear they short listed last week.... Should I be worried ?

coleyt · 13/04/2013 23:02

Hi this may sound silly but am I expected to take my CV along as I don`t have one. I have not worked at lots of different jobs and I was never asked to produce one before so not sure? or do they go by your job history on your application that you submit on NHS jobs? Also do they require you to take your portfolio along?

Leah80 · 14/04/2013 07:31

Kittyket I'm waiting to hear from derby and notts too, derby are sending out replies from Monday and I don't know what's happening with notts, rang hr and they know nothing and the lead person is now on annual leave till end of April x

Lpool123 · 14/04/2013 13:33

Autumn daisy you'll be fine! I wouldn't worry about being out of work for 9 months I felt out of my league as I don't qualify until August and everyone had experience but I've been offered a place. It wasn't as bad as I thought either everybody was lovely. Positive thinking xx

Lpool123 · 14/04/2013 13:37

Edoo, yes I have a place and the interview wasn't bad, didn't get asked about any documents or plans more scenario and personal based. The group interview was fine 4 people sat around a table discussing an article for 15 mins. I loved that bit haha! Maths and English test too. The people were all really nice too xx

TheBrocoliIsStillRaw · 14/04/2013 16:21

Sorry if this has been asked but does anyone know when the government funding (recruitment drive) end?

Leah80 · 14/04/2013 16:31

The implementation plan is 2011-2015 but not sure when the last big intake will be x

happylaws · 14/04/2013 22:55

Next year is the last major intake x

coleyt · 14/04/2013 23:46

Hi this may sound silly but am I expected to take my CV along and a cover letter. I have not had many different jobs jobs and I have never been to an interview so formal before so not sure? or do they go by your job history on your application that you submit on NHS jobs? Also should I carry my portfolio along?

happylaws · 15/04/2013 08:17

My CV is in my portfolio, I would ensure you take your portfolio along with you and its up to date with recent reflections, certificates etc x

Rosanna12 · 15/04/2013 11:33

Hi, just wondering whether anyone knew when we would know if we have got on the HV course for Liverpool LJMU or not? I'm just so impatient! xx

staceyboo18 · 15/04/2013 13:02

Hi Guys
I have my assessment tomorrow ( coventry) where I have to do a group discussion and a presentation. I Rung up as they had not given me a topin and they advised a topic will be given on the day. Im so nervous, I qualify as an adult nurse in septemeber so have applied for the january intake. I have been advised to read the implementation and vision which i have and made notes on cue cards which I am going to take with me. Any other advise? xx

iberostar · 15/04/2013 14:20

rosanna12

was it via LCH last week you interviewed? if so, its not til may/june time we find out!!!!

ive been told they were interveiwing 64 candidates for 30 places. gulp. they finish tomorrow from what i gather. i am assuming (hoping) they will account our statements, presentation and interview to score us fully. maybe thats why the wait as so many candidates to score?

the interview itself wasnt that hard but i know ive missed key elements through nerves. where do you work at the mo? im in the WIC

good luck x

Kittyket · 15/04/2013 14:32

Thanks... Leah80

so nervous ... I haven't told anyone I've applied , so very grateful for this thread :-/

coleyt · 15/04/2013 14:42

Staceyboo18 Did you go to the recruitment day as we were told then to look at the implementation plan especially the 4 TIERS as it was hinted at that they would be the topic for the presentation, say you feel passionate about this job and why coventry.... when we were given the difference between Warwickshire and Coventry they said that Coventry deal in particular with large numbers of vulnerable families and asylum seekers, so they said if that was an area we would be more interested in then to opt for coventry. I applied for 3 areas and thought I would get shortlisted for this. I didn`t but got interview for other two areas, funny how it goes. Good Luck. x

staceyboo18 · 15/04/2013 15:12

Hi ColyT
Thanks for your help. Yeah i did, an looked at them :) just really nervous i guess as dont really no what to expect. Well done on your other interviews :) x

morrigan711 · 15/04/2013 15:20

Hi all,

I had my interview down here in the South West this morning. Still recovering from my nerves LOL
First I had to give a presentation on the key role of a public health pracitioner, then there were four interviewers asking questions for half an hour. Some of the questions were:

  • what transferable skills have I got
  • what I'd do if I encountered malpractice
  • what I'd do if I suspected/witnessed domestic violence
  • how do I deal with pressure
  • how do I connect with other agencies
  • confidentiality
The panel was really lovely. Now the wait to hear back begins. Not sure what's worse, the nervousness before the interview or the nervousness to hear back afterwards. :)

Good luck to all of you who are still waiting xx

Littlebitwoo · 15/04/2013 18:14

Hi leah80 I'm still waiting for notts city too...really hope I get interview the waiting is awful
