Student Health Visitor Interview!!

1000 replies

chewie29 · 16/04/2012 14:56

Hi all.
I am currently a staff nurse on maternity leave and I have been very lucky, I have managed to get an interview for a Student Health Visitor Post tomorrow. Has anyone any advice they can give me for the actual interview? I am stressing as it is something I have wanted to do for a long time! I have send by little man over to his nans this afternoon so I can concentrate, I have just been getting more stressed as the day goes on. I have been preparing for the interview for some time but I'm worried my nerves will ruin it for me! Any advice or tips would be great. Thank you.

i applied for sheff hallam back in feb and still haven't heard anything so guess its not happening there which sucks coz i'm already a student. however i have an interview in Hull (AHHHH) on Wednesday and I am bricking it coz I have a nursing interview the day before in Blackpool haha.

I have to read Building a Foundation for Prosperity on the Science of Early Childhood Development and apply mu understanding off that article to the UK situation.

Does anyone have any good info about the current UK situation? the unicef report card 11 is great but not sure if they mean stuff like that and not sure where else to look.

xx

Hi everyone, for the people who interviewed at Greenwich uni, what type of questions did they ask? Also did you have to do a group session? My interview is on Wednesday any help is much appreciated. As I feel like a rabbit caught in headlights at present.

kitcat15 · 12/04/2013 17:09

Hi there Autumn Daisy....well done on getting your interview....I've been following your post and am made up for you!!
I had my interview this week in Crosby for liv comm health...it wasnt as bad as I thought...the 5 minute presentation then 5 or 6 questions....wers your interview ...at the uni??
If you are anything like me you will be stressing now until the day but if my experience is anything to go by it wasnt that bad.
Good luck and to all other going to interviews for LJM x

AutumnDaisy · 12/04/2013 19:08

Aw thank you kitcat, I'm made up but so nervous! When do you hear if you have a place? Good luck! Yes mine is somewhere in the faculty of health. I've got two weeks to prepare the presentation and as much as I can for the questions! Eek, looks like that's my evenings planned for once the kids are in bed! I'm going to start by reading through this whole thread so thank you to everyone who has contributed all the useful advice and info! And thanks again kitcat, really nice of you x

Hi Hannah1106

I have not read the report you have been asked to read but am a current HV student. The most important theme is giving children the best start in life and how we can as HV empower parents to achieve this for their children. Many reports advocate this including Field, Allen and Monroe with many government policies recognising the importance of early interventions and parenting support. Also projects like Family Nurse Partnership for teenage parents which work with them until the child is 2 to give support and advice and enhance the lives of both the children and parents. Much work has been done onthe dvelopment of babies brains which shows that the interaction that parents have in the first early years and even antenataly can affect that child. MRI scan of babies brains show the neuro pathways that develop more in those babies which have had stimulation from parents. We as HV should therefore inform and encourage parents to do this.

Hope this helps a little!!

Leah80 · 12/04/2013 19:20

AutumnDaisy, we have put lots of this information on the fb page if your interested and it saves looking though all these posts. Lots of interview questions, info and advice x

AutumnDaisy · 12/04/2013 20:13

Thank you so much Leah. If I joined the group, would the people who I am friends with on fb see that I have joined? Just because I'm friends with a lot of people from work and I don't really want them knowing I've applied for the course yet. Thanks x

Leah80 · 12/04/2013 20:17

Hi if you join and then remove it from your recent history then people shouldn't be able to see. No one can see posts who aren't in the group as its a closer group. Hope that helps x

AutumnDaisy · 12/04/2013 20:22

Okay thank you, I will try that! x

Lou4148 · 12/04/2013 21:19

Hi all, been for 1st interview today.... Scenario, public health discussion (nothing about policy) and panel interview. Nerve wracking but panel interview certainly the easiest if you've done your revision.
What I was asked...
Safeguarding scenario
Big emphasis on health promotion
HV Implementation plan and knock on effects
I recommend everyone knows the ins and outs of all of the latest public health policies and has examples of innovative practice, conflict in the workplace, stress and how you will manage the course. Examples of how research has influenced your practice.
Hope this is of help?
Also has anyone got any ideas for a presentation on The Search For Health Needs in Relation to HV Practice?
Any help pleeeease!!!!
Glad it's Friday! Big glass of wine!!!

tomvie · 12/04/2013 22:15

Search for health needs forms a big part of the HV role and is really done at each contact. The assessment of need triangle is utilised by all HV as a holistic assessment tool so maybe mention this- it was developed initially for social workers in 2000. Perhaps the first contact is the new birth visit when you can search for health needs for both baby and mother.Maybe she has history of post natal depression and you can arrange follow up call before 3 months maternal health visit. Check what support she has. Signpost her to groups for PN support. Encourage her to come to clinic. Also if she is a smoker you could support smoking cessation and signpost where she can get support. I think there are many different health needs and much written on this on the internet. What one client will see as a need the other will not so the need to treat each as an individual. Maybe say how you would identify HN eg by motivational interviewing, listening skills, picking up on minor clues mum may give eg being over anxious. How you would deal with the identified need- signpost to services and groups, involve the multidisciplinary team, seek advice from peer support, practical support for mum.

Depends how long the presentation is on how much you can include. They will not expect you to know everything as that is why you are doing the course. Hope some of the above give you some ideas. good luck

Lpool123 · 13/04/2013 00:04

I've been offered a place in south Essex! So happy, still have interview for Birmingham and Warwick next week though has anybody else? Xxx

AutumnDaisy · 13/04/2013 07:30

Well done Lpool123! Great news! Did you hear from John Moores? Did any of the other Liverpool ladies hear? x

Lpool123 · 13/04/2013 09:45

Yeah I didn't get short listed but it's my own fault I used a different personal statement thinking it was better and it wasn't! Gutted! Ah well got a place and a few more interviews, everything happens for a reason xx

AutumnDaisy · 13/04/2013 13:10

Aw sorry to hear that but that's what I think too, all for a reason. That's amazing that you have a place! I am feeling so stressed about this interview, trying to stay positive but to be honest I'm failing to! I feel a bit out of my depth because I've been out of work for 9 months on mat leave, and just feel like there is too much for me to learn and prepare in 2 weeks! :-/ eek, hoping I'm feeling more prepared soon. Good luck with it all anyway :-) x

Leah80 · 13/04/2013 14:25

I felt out of my depth preparing for my first one but felt better towards the end, good luck with it all x

AutumnDaisy · 13/04/2013 14:58

Thanks Leah x
