Student Health Visitor Interview!!

Hi all.
I am currently a staff nurse on maternity leave and I have been very lucky, I have managed to get an interview for a Student Health Visitor Post tomorrow. Has anyone any advice they can give me for the actual interview? I am stressing as it is something I have wanted to do for a long time! I have send by little man over to his nans this afternoon so I can concentrate, I have just been getting more stressed as the day goes on. I have been preparing for the interview for some time but I'm worried my nerves will ruin it for me! Any advice or tips would be great. Thank you.

Well done chewie working as a staff nurse attached to the HV team is the way to go about it - that way your practical skills will be seen on the team and you're more or less guaranteed to get a post as a HV later on :)

The food of love i'm really happy that you got thorugh. Thumbs up, I actually reapplied and was chosen to attend the assessment centre soon. I endeavour to make the best posible use of this second chance. Can you remember the topic and which journal the article for the comprehension was from pls.

I need an idea of what to expect for literacy test to access health visiting programme please. Am a bit worried!

I think it depends on which area you are applying but mine was a short paragraph a patient had written about dying. We had to answer about 4 questions with each answer being no more than 150 words. The numeracy was % drug questions and fractions. Good luck

Hi guys, good luck with the interviews. I had my interview in May and was shocked to get a place as I had heard how competitive it was to gain a place, however, I still haven't heard where I will be placed or where I will be studying - has anyone else been told their placements details yet? Slightly panicking as I need to give notice in my job but am obviously reluctant to do so until its all finalised.

No details from my trust or uni yet. Desperately need to know soon to get childcare organised. Obviously don't want to book afterschool club/ childminder when it isn't needed. Hopefully will hear soon.

I am due an interview and part of it is to do a 5min verbal presentation on the role of a HV. Do you think i should mention sorces or just talk about the role in general or I should show that I am aware of the documents that have lead to those roles

Just over 2 weeks ago i put my application in for student health visiting with somerset partnership.Is there anybody else out there that has done the same ?If so have you heard anything .

I am gutted applied for HV course Derby but has not been short listed. I hav heard that its more competitive in derby n Nottingham than anywer else. I really need help on how to write an X-factor personal statement. Those guys who have made it can you please help me on what I need to include in my statement as I wil be applying again for the Sept intakes. Thanks in advance.

I have secured a place on the Health visitor course with NHS Kent community trust . I live in Beckenham and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the traffic is like in the mornings on the A20 going towards Swanley ( away from London)

I am a currently student health visitor. There are going to be some roadshows by the RCN about HV and are really worth going on to network and get good ideas for you application form. See the RCN website. For those doing interviews/ presentations soon they will want to see that you have read things related to HV in particular the HV implementation plan, the healthy child programme, healthy lives healthy people(UKDH) and what these mean for HV generally. We have a wide variety of nurses from all backgrounds on the course. Try to mention anout being able to work autonomously and as part of a team. If/ How you have worked with children including safeguarding or what you know about it. give me a shout if you need any further info. It is an extremely intensive course so be prepared to give your life to it for a year !!

Hello :) I am currently on Mat leave, and am thinking about training as a HV. I am a practice nurse specialising in Family planning and sexual health but I really am keen on taking a career change. One issue I am concerned about is child care. DS is 4 months, and originally DP and I decided that I would only go back to work part time as we couldn't afford full time child care costs.

What sort of wage do student HV's get and does anyone know of any help you can get with child care at all?

My area is recruiting right now and I am quite excited about it!

You will be seconded from a local Trust and they pay the fees for the Uni course and also a Band 5 wage. usually mid point band 5. Not sure about help with childcare though. The universities do usually have a nursery but unsure about the cost of that.

I am new to this but have seen how much help and support you have all given each other with regards to the application and interview for the health visiting course, i am a student midwife in my final year and have always wanted to become a health visitor. I just wondered to those who were short-listed especially in London what you all wrote in your personal statement, just so i know that i am along the right lines. Any assistance would be much appreciated and i have done loads of research and study as well. I guess i just want reassurance of what they are looking for

Hi, i am in the same boat as Bookz, currently third year adult nurse and wanting to pursue health visiting when I qualify. I have been told by uni staff that jobs come available around February so need to get my butt into gear and start my personal statement. I haven't a clue where to start or what to include. I don't have children so will this be a dis advance? Any help or advice with applications would be massively appreciated.

Hi new to this but I've just attended The student health visitor interview at Nottingham, I read every document relating to children and not a single question was asked! It was all about management stratergies in my own practice, there were 30 applicants for 3 posts! The interview panel were fantastic and made the experience worthwhile, don't focus on all the policies relating to H.V out there as I did. It's a training course so this is something which will come with time. Think about your own experiences and your every day to day nursing! Good luck

This thread has been very helpful to me, (have my interview on 24th Jan 13, so thank you to all that have posted. I can't be much help yet until after my interview, but to all those that are asking what to put in their personal statement for application, i put in A-about me, my qualifications and experience (keep it brief) and B- What i thought the role of the health visitor was about, i.e. child protection, health promotion for ALL the family, supporting disadvantaged families etc, and then i put how i could transfer my nursing skills to HV, i.e, communication skills, organization, team work etc. I only wrote 1 A4 page, don't waffle too much. Hope this helps anyone applying, got me to interview stage anyway. Good luck and i'll post interview tips soon x
