Right, reading these boards recently has given me a bit of a kick up the arse on my feminist principles. I've done a bit of 'light' reading in the area (think The Beauty Myth as a teenager) but think I need something a bit more serious without being so weighty I never pick it up. I'd rather have something published in, say, the last 15 years than any of the 'classics'.

Any ideas?

Lepapa, nobody is saying that men cannot participate in general life in things that are culturally female. There are simply a few area that feminists want to keep for biological females only. There are huge numbers of other female events and cultural activities where trans people are quite welcome. Trans people are welcome at many feminist events as well - you don't have to be female to be a feminist.

You persistently seem unable to differentiate between what constitutes material reality and what constitutes a social construct and how those two elements interact, which strikes me as odd when you have tried to frame some of your arguments in evolutionary and biocultural terms.

I certainly would not consider it extreme if a white person tried to get access to services that were ringfenced for ethnic minorities and was turned down or excluded from those services. People who have dual or multiple heritages (what you term 'biracial') constitute ethnic minorities in their own right anyway - there isn't some binary of black and white.

Women killing their children because of feminism? Ridiculous.

FFS I will be so glad when this thread is full!

I just can't believe what has happened here.

We are a recently formed section of MN with many women learning about Femanism (like me).

Someone starts a thread requesting book ideas - and then because something is said that trans people (I am sorry I genuinely do not know the terminology and do not have the time or patience to read every post) object to be suddenly have loads of people registering to post on this issue?

Do you know what. I have never had much cause to think about trans -gender what ever issues - but when I do my thoughts will be coloured by the disrespectful and angry way people have invaded this thread.

MN regulars - I hope this thread ends here. If other threads are de-railed then I think we need to start a separate one to reply to these new posters. (Just my opinion obviously). I am interested in women's rights (women like me who were born XX). I will not apologise for this. Maybe in the future I will see some calm, reasonable argument which gets me involved in fighting for trans rights - but not at the moment.

If you address replies to me they will not be answered or viewed (I am hiding the thread now).

Blackduck · 16/07/2010 06:12

wtf has autism got to do with anything......sheshh can't wait for this thread to reach 1000....

sally66 · 16/07/2010 06:24

for the third time of asking

Feminists are going to have a much better case if we draw a clear line on sex, if we teach that males cannot, and should not, be considered females by law; that radical feminists draw the line right there."

can you elaborate on this please

sparky159 · 16/07/2010 07:25

Dittony
i knew exactly what you was going to come back with!
youre posts are predictable Dittony!
youre ideas are so "set in stone"-

Blackduck · 16/07/2010 08:21
