TLDR version: Sandie Peggie vs Royal College of Nursing is currently being heard. The hearing started on Wednesday 23 September 2026 and is scheduled to end on Thursday 1 October 2026.

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims were of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claimed to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and after a prolonged process judgment was handed down on 8 December 2025. That judgment is being appealed and an appeal hearing is expected to take place in 2027.

Additional legal claims have been raised. Sandie Peggie is taking action against the Royal College of Nursing, against three senior managers who were witnesses in the employment tribunal - Dr Kate Searle, Dr Maggie Currer and Esther Davidson, against Carol Potter, the chief executive of NHS Fife, for victimisation, against NHS Fife for discrimination, and against its director of people and culture David Miller for harassment. In addition, Sandie Peggie is being investigated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council over fitness to practice.

Thank you.

I shall have a read.

Then I'm definitely going to bed.

Need to bright eyed and bushy tailed for Naomi's continued questioning of Stuart tomorrow.

Based on the calibre of Hutchinson letter she should be the full time paid leader of the RCN, not some see you next Tuesday handmaiden.

I can do the first hour of c&ping tomorrow, and then maybe the last hour, but will be out for a big chunk in between. Anyone able to take over from 11?

I will if I can but I don’t know if I’ll have recovered from this vertigo. I woke up from my second nap of the afternoon at 7:30pm* so I might be late getting to sleep again.

*Apologies to those with small children who would love to nap whenever they want to, and can’t.

Hedgehogforshort · 29/09/2026 00:20

Derail incoming i sooooo love a nap now, and feel so deprived of my habits when i am entertaining the grand hoglettes.

To the extent we all go out in the car to some horrific child friendly venue or other, and i snatch a nap en route

Damn, I was really hoping to read something where he rakes SF over the coals ( as he bloody deserved it ). But hopefully that will come tomorrow when he's finished his evidence...

That letter is splendid.

I particularly enjoyed the aside about planning permission - it seems some people are able to consider multiple aspects of an issue and that there may be more than 1 regulation involved.

Yes! The letter is pure fire. So articulate and telling.

My point is that it’s wild to insist that you are defending the rights of trans men while simultaneously holding a worldview that dismisses, refuses and ridicules their own account of who they are and of their lived reality.

Of course protections around pregnancy, related healthcare and parental leave matter, but those can be provided for perfectly well within a trans-inclusive framework. You don’t need to deny someone’s identity in order to achieve that.

but if the SC judgement had gone the other way, they would have lost them. So Yay!! For the SC judges right! Just shows the judgement was not transphobic doesn’t it?

I mean, the fact TIF still need abortion care and pregnancy care proves even even they don’t believe they’re men. Why would you get pregnant (looking at you FM) if you are a man. Men can’t get pregnant.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 29/09/2026 06:21

Thanks for the links they've clarified the day wonderfully, I think NC made a good case for the view that the RCN have abandoned their women members to illegal decisions made by management when they just gave women's changing rooms to men. The whole point of the Unions is too protect their members from management breaking the law, I think those working for the unions may have forgotten that. They're all Social Justice organisations now.

@Boiledbeetle Oh you sweet optimist.

Has Nick Wallis been tweeting?

Scottish press covering

https://www.thenational.scot/news/national/26587608.rcn-failed-help-needed-pronoun-nurse-tells-peggie-tribunal/

The National completely ignoring the information that the person Jennifer was treating was a prisoner in for sex offences.

I say your identity/self-understanding is defined by your reproductive capacity! There’s simply no other way! Therefore, if you understand your own reproductive capacity, and it’s just like mine, that proves you think exactly the same as me!!!!! Checkmate, you silly, pretending ‘trans-identifying woman’.

Off you trot now and be grateful for all the rights and dignity I’ve so righteously decided I’m defending for you.

(Because obviously there is simply no possible way to provide someone with appropriate pregnancy, abortion or reproductive healthcare by taking an accurate history of their body and physiology. Thats def not how healthcare works. Absolutely not. Clearly I must first impose my preferred identity category on them).

Tootles!

Oh… wait, sorry — no, no, not reproductive capacity, because obviously not all women actually have the same reproductive capacity.
(Those tricksty genderists/ TRAs , with their word salads, manipulatively trying to point out the complexity of biological processes.. but they can't pull the wool over my eyes!).
What I meant was - your identity and self-knowledge are necessarily determined by ...errr....the reproductive developmental pathway your body is "organised" around - specifically the production of large gametes(!) — irrespective of whether you ever use them, actually produce them, possess much or all of the associated anatomy, or any other factors, of course.

Yay!! Yes. That definitely establishes how you must think and who you definitively are! Because I already decided that's how it works. There’s simply no other way!

Phew. Rescued it. 😅

Ok . My Apologies. I've had my fun for this morning

That's just a bit silly, Lacksie. The worst kind of straw-manning.

Or, as I prefer to describe it, making up a whole load of nonsense as to what's been said. By somebody who clearly doesn't understand the reasoning behind the SC judgment in relation to maternity rights.

Seriestwo · 29/09/2026 08:32

Lacksie, your lack is showing.

I'm trying not to 'notice' the physical appearance of this witness. But it's a fact that he is a very, very large man of at least 20 stone. And it is therefore highly unlikely that he has ever felt physically intimidated in his adult life.

This is such a reach. To make a comment on his physical appearance is embarrassing and clichéd. Pour yourself a chamomile tea and read some Harry Potter love.

MyThreeWords · 29/09/2026 09:00

It would be good if this could be a thread for discussion, and not a thread for taking the piss out of posters we disagree with - on all sides.

ProfDrLapwing · 29/09/2026 09:04

I notice that TT had SF responding to NC with the words ‘not all TW are dangerous’ and Nick’s tweet has it as ‘I don't think all TG people are a risk’.

Both statements are pretty revealing but can anyone who was watching say which is correct?
