TLDR version: Sandie Peggie vs Royal College of Nursing is currently being heard. The hearing started on Wednesday 23 September 2026 and is scheduled to end on Thursday 1 October 2026.

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims were of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claimed to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and after a prolonged process judgment was handed down on 8 December 2025. That judgment is being appealed and an appeal hearing is expected to take place in 2027.

Additional legal claims have been raised. Sandie Peggie is taking action against the Royal College of Nursing, against three senior managers who were witnesses in the employment tribunal - Dr Kate Searle, Dr Maggie Currer and Esther Davidson, against Carol Potter, the chief executive of NHS Fife, for victimisation, against NHS Fife for discrimination, and against its director of people and culture David Miller for harassment. In addition, Sandie Peggie is being investigated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council over fitness to practice.

Google tells me an RCN rep (likely male) earns is paid £49-55k. A band 6 senior nurse (likely female) earns £39-47k. Well I never.

It's all topsy turvy

From TT:

EC but this is framed as something that might diminished the rights of trans people . No sense of ‘this will help you RCN protect your members’.
The language used is of ‘extremism’ makes it sound only slightly less toxic than Nazism.
SF but Grainger other aspects

NC nothing on the RCN website that clarifies or updates GC protections.
SF not sure
NC we’ll see later.

Jumping ahead to say how much I enjoy an NC 'we'll see later'. Builds suspense better than the Jaws theme.

Yes, that's going to leave him sweating tonight.

What's wrong with being a TRA?

Well it's not a self-adopted community label (like gender critical feminism).. It's a label that's imposed externally and I've noticed that it's mostly used on these forums as a slur to identify the type of person they ridicule and despise.

With any luck he'll catch her cold.

He can't escape. He'd be called back to the witness box as soon as he's able and in the interim remain under oath and precluded from discussing the case with anyone. Short of unexpectedly falling into a coma, he's stuffed.

I'm wondering if he's looking at early morning flights to Australia!

Structural problem with organising institutions where the skilled work is done by the lowly front line staff. Teaching is the same. Management pays more than skilled work. Baffling.

Lacksie · 28/09/2026 17:15

you chose to list what you had been busy doing as opposed to simply saying you would be catching up later and getting back to the thread

I was just trying to be human . Sometimes I think that's helpful to remember.

The only bit I saw re SP's cross was the stuff about the "spelling error" which seemed very silly. At the same time I don't think making a choice to respect a person's pronouns is evidence of discrimination against someone else. But I didn't get the full context so maybe I am missing something

He progressively dropped himself further into the poop as his evidence continued. And he's got to get back in the witness box tomorrow!

No. Trans rights activists just takes longer to type.

Pay attention to the fact that as soon as SP told SF, her union rep, her version of what had happened, he immediately assumed that she was a) herself in the wrong and b) that she wanted union support in responding to an employer-led investigation (that he thought would find against her).

Isn't there also a (c), edited the pronouns that she used in her complaint so that they corresponded to GI preference

And he really shouldn't have done that. Ignoring who is right and who is wrong on the pronoun subject he materially changed the statement she gave.

Changing the words that a member has used in your reporting is a very wrong thing to do - especially if the union rep thought that the case would end up in court. Isn't it effectively lying?
The union rep must have been under the impression that it was a really, really important thing to do.
Perhaps this reflects how seriously the internal union leadership takes its external statements that TWAW etc.

Quite. By changing to 'she' it implied SP accepted the transgender status of Dr Upton. Whereas as a 'he' it was clear SP was complaining about a man.

I thought subconscious bias training was all the rage?

Edited

I started work in the NHS in 2002. I had equality and subconscious bias training pretty much annually for the first 6 or 7 years. After 2010? Not a squeak. DEI, yes, but much more 'understanding the EA' than 'think about own behaviour/beliefs'. And that got steadily more skewed over the years. In 2024 I refused to complete it because it was wrong about the law. Had been since about 2020, but in previous years I'd completed and then complained (to no response).

On the subject of men in women's spaces...has SF said that there was no policy AND it was a grey area AND that it was policy AND practice? Or am I doing him a disservice?

I believe he did indeed say all those things. What a tangled web he weaved.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 28/09/2026 18:01

Well it's not a self-adopted community label (like gender critical feminism).

It's not self-adopted, there's no such thing as gender critical feminism, only Feminism, which stands for a belief in or advocacy of women's social, political, and economic rights, especially with regard to equality of the sexes.
The label gender critical feminism was imposed on Feminists by the intersectional/omnicause feminist's who betrayed feminism and women when they decided to 'include' everything under the sun into feminism and have rendered the female a footnote in her own cause.

That'll just hold the trial up, while he recovers 😂 My DH has caught my head cold, and has been unable to move off the settee for 3 days!
I note NC has had no problem carrying on.

I don't agree with this at all.
Also there are many many different types/ shades of feminism.

Yes, he put words in SP mouth, much like he claims she was taking about IB, even though SP never said that to him, she only said 'it's like putting men in women's prsions, I do hope the Judge noticed both of those things.
