Now this …it is reported that the judge in the case said that Roxanne's male features were a "protected characteristic of being a trans woman." definitely reinforces my suspicion that the judges in question are ideologues and want to apply the law to reinforce those ideological beliefs. If judges were not able to do so, why are they political appointees in the US?

EasternStandard · 12/09/2026 07:52

Yes they are, big time, and the irony is that the Labour party currently in power has the largest majority of female MPs of any governing party in our history. They are mean- girls, handmaidens, traitors. They smile and say "transwomen are women" condescendingly when challenged. Our PM calls it a "culture war". Our Foreign Affairs minister, who is leader of the Senate, and the first openly lesbian and of Asain heritage to boot parliamentarian has a trans-identified PA, so you have to wonder if any letters or emails get through...

Argh we had that ‘culture war’ nonsense line at the last GE. People bought into it and dismissed stuff that the left claimed fitted a culture war.

I feel for you, it’s so frustrating. Votes don’t really come up for gender stuff but if the ALP can be defeated for other reasons the laws might change.

The fact so many people are aggressive about this topic just shows how far out of touch you are with your own children and the new way of education.

Ah, sending us for re-education in the “new way”.

Is that because human beings are no longer male and female and are somehow reproducing some other way?

Oh - no, it turns out nothing factual has changed but an ideology has taken hold and we must tell lies to go along with it.

Have you read 1984? You really should.

His penis is a protected feature? Sounds about right.

Who? Every Cis here saying she isn't a woman.

It's so clear, some of you could get into trouble at work if your boss saw these posts. You sure wouldn't get away with this in a staff room. It's bigoted and discriminatory in the extreme.

I'm non binary, mate. Roxy Tickle is an abusive man.

In fact most of you could do with going back to school and learning all over again and getting up to date with modern times.

It's 2026.

What, it's 2026, women have had rights for long enough, time to get back under appropriate control, is that what you mean? Fetishist men have had to keep themselves hidden for too long, its 2026, and time we let them define the rules? Like that?
There are people who think it's progressive to roll back womens rights.
Those people totally underestimate just how much safer the world is for everyone because of womens voices.
Those people would have any man in children's changing rooms, as long as he said he was a woman.
It is womens voices that call out harm every single time.
Just how much safeguarding have women done in the face of people telling us to shut up? Heaps. So I don't want to hear about "its 2026" from people who don't care about the consequences of their immediate wants and desires. Women have always paid the consequences, and protected the children as best we can. We are not bigots. We are the adults in the room.

Manyanamanyana · 11/09/2026 22:50

Yep, 100%. LNP though are about to put forward another Bill to repeal the SDA changes, so maybe write to/ call your local MP and let them know women are watching who votes in favour. I don't know. Most people don't care enough. Even my DH, who knows very well how I feel, "forgot" to sign a "Save Womens Sports" petition I sent him last week. There has been nothing on the ABC about Sal losing. It's hard to get the word out.

Well, we were in the same position here maybe seven or eight years ago.

Media silence was deafening. You could barely discuss it anywhere.

It changed painfully gradually.

But its a self defeating movement eventually, as the more 'successful' it is the more people see the impacts.

We are all behind you. Flowers

As awful as it sounds we are probably going to need a big case to get people interested. Similar to what happened in Scotland where people became a lot more strongly pro single sex spaces following the Isla Bryon debacle.

Yes the photographer of the Isla Bryson pic did us a huge favour. People react to visual stuff much more quickly.

Ik Tickle looks male but the Bryson image worked well.

Figureheads help. We have a few amazing and very brave women who have led the charges. But also lots of informal networks. Its amazing how much can be done by small acts like stickers and ribbons and chalking rocks and writing letters and gathering evidence and having conversations.

Timing also helps. Bryson wasnt the first rapist in womens prison. Women had been raising the alarm about others, but Bryson came when the GRR Bill was in parliament so the political timing was right. Gather evidence and be ready to share it at the right time. News stories run on people, not abstract ideas. So you need examples, for all sides, as illustrations of the abstract ideas.

Its also important to draw back and ask meta questions to start with. Why can't women discuss women's rights? Are women entitled to human rights? What is a woman? If you can pose these questions it can jolt people out of the BeKindTwaw stupor and encourage them to use logic and critical thinking.

Also maybe worth getting legal advice sessions set up for what rights you ostensibly have in law and how to assert them.

There already will be Oz cases like Bryson, there's never a lack of abusive men, sadly.

Also, Bryson was a tipping point to something that had been gaining momentum for years. I'd written to my political reps previously about men in womens prisons and had supercilious, self righteous and actually aggressive responses back.

When Bryson happened I was able to refer to previous letters to demonstrate, effectively, that what I'd warned about had actually undeniably happened in plain sight.

Although as painful as it was we in the UK already had the legislation in place with the Equality Act to recognise gender critical as a protected belief. The TRAs did a fine job of misinterpreting the law and it took all those cases Allison, Maya etc to challenge the law ending eventually with FWS and the supreme court ruling. Australia has an even greater challenge ahead. Media and campaigners are forced to break the current laws if they speak up. Australia says it is proud of its free speech laws but it is a farce.

100% agree about Isla Bryson and that photo. Also there was that photo of Lia Thomas towering over the female competitors on the podium, really galvanised things.

We just need something like that, with a viral photo that shows the craziness of what has been allowed to happened

ArabellaScott · 12/09/2026 08:52

You have an easier job than TWAW supporters, because you have plain and simple reality, honesty and logic on your side. Its harder because they are very well funded and supported by the establishment.

Who are Australia's Stonewall, Mermaids, etc?

Yes, thats what I mean about zooming back and out to ask whether women are allowed to discuss these things, ask questions, criticise the law, etc.

You have to start with something like Forstater effectively to establish that right.

Right back to first principles of human rights, freedom of speech, etc

I think Australia allows people to criticise the law. I always wear my 'Proud TERF' hat around and regularly go to WRN protests. I'm always on social media posting my GC views (under my name). Never had any issues.

Lauren Hubbard. NZ, but I imagine Antipodean can work, too.

Re it not being an electoral issue- it never has been here. It doesn't need the whole populace to be entirely focused on it. You can do a lot with Mgt Mead's small and determined group.

Yes it’s harder if the law completely closes down on this and legislates men are women.

We had an out which took incredibly brave women and culminating in the FWS SC ruling.

Aus doesn’t have that, it’ll need new legislation.

ArabellaScott · 12/09/2026 09:20

We didn't have Forstater in place before it went through the courts! Prior to that lots argued that gc views were forbidden to even utter. I mean the first judge literally said so. Not Woriads.

And the first Forstater ET was the darkness before dawn, which is how I imagine it must feel in Aus at the moment for women with gc views.

I'd actually forgotten how rubbish that felt when the first judge said not WORIADS. The disbelief.

But now here we are with green shoots of reality based optimism sprouting up.

Aus friends take heart. This isn't the end of the fight.
