How dim is Stella Creasey?

Today she tweeted about how great the Milad ad Nabi march was in Walthamstow.
Of course, it's segregated and the women get to march afterwards or celebrate in halls.
According to Stella, the Garrick Club is problematic because it only allows men to join. But this is fine.
I know that she is pandering to her constituency, but she really seems to have no awareness.

It's deeply inconsistent to, on the one hand, be happy to support a march where men are segregated from women (who are covered head to toe), and from a religion where men have vastly more power than women and, on the other hand, to campaign against the Garrick Club for being all male. Hypocritical, some might say. All to do with winning votes. Whatever.

If politicians do this sort of thing, it lends weight to claims of 'one rule for them and another for us' and 'two-tier policing'.

Then the tabloid press gets hold of it and the pissed-off groups of voters who are already fairly sure that two-tier everything is already upon them are pushed even further towards Reform.

It's a slow-handclap moment. Stella might be savvy on Twix, but the possible long-term consequences seem to sail right over her head.

(And, no, before anyone starts on me, I can't stand Nigel Farage and I won't be voting Reform. I'm just describing a process I can see happening around me.)

This board has to be the most depressing on Mumsnet. Every thread…. Bitching, arguing, denigrating.

2). I would argue that women on this board are most well known for winning court cases that protect women's rights.

But please do explain how women who depend on single sex provision for religious reasons to e.g. go swimming are helped by Stella Creasey's stance on the EHRC guidelines?

Well, quite.

This isn't a well-thought-through set of considered positions on her part, that together might make a coherent overall approach.

It's just a pick-n-mix of earnestly right-on omnicause positions, as far as I can see. And the fact that some of the positions don't hang together seems to either have eluded her thus far, or been ignored - she doesn't seem to mind the inherent contradictions and hypocrisy in her approach.

None of that has any relevance to the points raised here. I'm not sure you can argue that women were denied access to a public place when there was a prominent woman - of the old fashioned female kind - partaking in it too.

Which bit do you find particularly embarrassing? The suggestion that SC has what can, at best be described as, an inconsistent attitude toward separation of the sexes? Or just use of the word dim?

I'm afraid I just couldn't resist. You see, on this board we get so many ploppers who just drive by to sanctimoniously give us silly mummies a good scolding for not being 'kind' suicidally empathetic mugs , so when I see a post like yours telling us off, it makes me want to have a little bit of fun with the po-facery.

Sorry do you know any Muslim women? I have had many conversations with my female Muslim colleagues about this exact question and they all say they would never leave Islam as they would be excommunicated by their entire family and community. These are educated, working, relatively westernised Muslim women. Christ knows what it would be like being from a more strictly observant background. And even these relatively westernised women have all had arranged marriages and enjoy fewer rights within their households than even their male children. I think a lot of people would be shocked if they knew the reality of the life of an average Muslim woman living in Britain.

Not to mention all conservative religion is inherently misogynistic and should have no place in political decision or sensible policy making in 21st century UK.

Oh yes. It's not that we are wrong about women mattering in ways that are entirely separate to unisex feelings of gender, it's that we say it so meanly that all right thinking people must be driven to support sexist men despite themselves simply to get away from us. Apparently.

The first time I heard of Stella Creasy was when she wrote an article saying that mothers should be able to put a man on her baby's birth certificate without him being present, even if they aren't married. Of course, this raises the question of how you stop any woman from registering any man as her baby's father - so Creasy said that it should be at the registrar's discretion. And if you think about this for more than a second, you'd realise that this would almost certainly lead to well-dressed, nicely-spoken women being taken at their word, while women with tattoos or non-posh accents would be told the father needed to be present. In other words, I question how adept Creasy is at forming public policy.

Ah yes, that old chestnut. It always amazes me how people post that without any sort of self-consciousness about just how deeply childish such a response shows them to be.

I follow her on X but I often don't seem to see any of her tweets. Is she perhaps having her account limited in some way?

Ditto. Brilliant woman. Intelligent and brave. She was apparently bullied at Cambridge. Presumably by pathetic people who couldnt handle the fact that a young very good looking woman could have intelligence and forthright opinions. Pathetic.

Why does Stella Creasy respect these women's right to congregate separately from men, but also not respect women's right to congregate separately from men?

Also, how can the Equality Act protect the rights of women if it cannot clearly define sex?

And finally, does she not realise that the EHRC interprets the law but does not make the law, and that if she wants the law changed she will need to put forward legislation? Where is her proposed legislation? The law was made clear for most trans people back in 2022. What has she been doing in that time?
