I was surprised by this. Interested to see how 'non binary' evolves.

I find the idea of nb masc and femme to also be in a weird way really conventional. As in, deciding that the stereotypes and gendered expectations are normal, correct and good things to adhere to, although they are choosing to adhere to a different set than is normally expected based on their sex.

And some people define themselves as trad wives and some people take Jordan Peterson very seriously and some people think their most important characteristic is that they are English and they are free to do that and we are free to say that it is all a load of bollocks, or that we just don't care.

It's only really important when personal beliefs about identity are imposed on others and interfere with their rights.

What is all this micro-labelling for?

You really need to learn the difference between innate characteristics and personal choices.

Then, perhaps, the concept of respecting difference.

I'm guessing it's different for very young people, who are still looking for themselves. They probaby find comfort in extremely granular identities, which allow them to express themselves as an individual person different from everyone else, while still finding companionship within a group.

I think this is a good moment to say that I'm coming to realise that I like it when it's sunny but I don't like it when it's too hot and I think we could do with some rain. I also like Biscoff biscuits. I'm not going to turn down a Rich Tea, but I don't really understand the point.

I would like you all to respect that.

Identifying as trans, or nb masc, or whatever, is a choice. Nobody is under any obligation to choose a gender label for themselves.

I am being rude, but I think many of us remember what is what like to take our identity very, very seriously.

From what I understand Jordan Petersen is very much a believer in innate characteristics.

Everyone has characteristics, no idea how any of us could tease out what is innate and what is shaped by our environment, life would be so so dull if everyone insisted on telling everyone else what they were. It used to be star signs, Chinese horoscopes and Myers Briggs personality types, That was dull too.

The thing that is different about 'gender' as far as I can see is that it includes requests/demands/expectations for people to modify their responses.

I suppose at root it often is about trying to change how society responds to someone.

It's using societal politeness and rules and behavioural tendencies to try to reverse engineer society.

I think that's why people bristle at it, actually.

It's a salient and interesting point to consider - to affect genuine change, how does one do that without trying to control others? Because there is a risk of doing the opposite, mostly by pissing people off.

It's not GC women who don't understand the difference. It's people like you who wang on about non binary and gender identity as if these are real things. They're not.

I wonder if NB people think that all the other people in the world who are NOT NB are wandering about delighting in their inner cisness and just LOVING the buzz of identifying with stereotypes?

Because, that would be almost as weird as thinking you know what it feels like to be the opposite sex.

No, I'm just me. Never had the words for being non-binary when I was younger but always was, carrying the experience of being a woman while never thinking of myself as one.

Education's a wonderful thing, as is self-acceptance.

Trans people are just trans. They were born trans.
