In which Amnesty jumps the shark

A report on 'anti gender actors' from Amnesty appears to be a puzzling work of jumbled nonsense and overwrought fiction.

Either they completely fail to grasp what 'gender critical' means, or they are deliberately trying desperately to bundle it in with Xtian rightwing US organisations. Maybe both.

Trans activists have been accusing UK feminists of being rightwing Xtian US fundamentalist funded for years. Sometimes it's funny, more often it's just fucking tedious.

Anyway.

'An organised anti-rights movement targeting the rights of women and LGBT+ people is growing in the UK. Over 60% of the organisations mapped have emerged since 2017, the vast majority gender critical organisations'

What the everloving fuck do they think they mean, here?

Feminists 'target' the rights of women? In terms of - feminists have fought long and hard for the rights of women? Yes, well done, Amnesty.

Then they whang on a lot about abortion and well funded US rightwing organisations, including religious groups, etc.

And then ...

'In fact, gender critical organisations only account for 2.5% of total expenditure but have been remarkably successful in realising their agenda through strategic litigation and campaigning.'

Will you ever actually use your brains, Amnesty?

The list at the end should give them a wee clue. Dozens of feminist organisations, almost all listed as 'informal', yet lumped in bizarrely with massive US anti abortion groups.

Idiots.

She’s given two podcast interviews about it and she’s very proud of it.

that sounds tricky to reverse ferret out of, I wonder how her job is going?

Considering that Amnesty UK have been running this ‘anti-gender’ course since January 2025, I think any denial of the claim that these reports were supported by the senior team of AI would be absurd.

The screen shots about the course structure are concerning.

Gethin Chamberlain (@newsandpics) on X

Not content with publishing a report branding women’s and gay and lesbian groups as “anti-rights”, Amnesty International UK has been running a free course for anyone to learn how to oppose what it calls the “anti-gender movement”. 🧵

JKR has quote tweeted the times piece with this:

J.K. Rowling
Amnesty UK was already smearing feminists as 'anti-rights' back in May, according to
@thetimes
. It appears that, far from being an accidental slip up or an editorial error, the latest defamatory report accurately represents Amnesty UK's deep-seated hostility to all organisations that believe sex is real and important in contexts such as same sex attraction and healing after sexual violence and trauma. Those who've been defamed are owed an explanation of why Amnesty claimed to have withdrawn the report because of its 'language' when, per
@thetimes
article, it had already expressed exactly the same beliefs, in the same language, months previously. Many of the organisations Amnesty has attacked are grassroots campaigners with a tiny fraction of a gigantic, well-funded international NGO's resources. The defamatory report has already had serious consequences for a service supporting women at the most vulnerable time of their lives, as detailed by Beira's Place lawyers in the legal letter sent two days ago. The withdrawing of the report cannot undo the harm it has already done and is continuing to do. If Amnesty is under the illusion that the women's, children's and gay rights organisations it has attacked will be unwilling to go to court, they have made yet another massive error of judgement. They underestimate both the solidarity that exists between the targeted organisations and my willingness to support legal action, not just on behalf of Beira's Place, but for all women's and LGB organisations falsely branded 'anti-rights.'

ETA - So, 5th August 2023 is the date that Amnesty fully committed to the idea that identity is what makes someone a 'girl' in Afghanistan and that these women and girls are oppressed for their 'identity' and not their biological sex.

Someone also found this. They cannot surely argue that the report was a 'one off'.

Thanks for the link, this is interesting
"Tonia Antoniazzi, the Labour MP for Gower has tabled an early day motion", not the party I'd expect this to come from.

Tonia Antoniazzi is reliably GC. She has nine caps playing rugby for Wales.
& despite the exotic name as soon as she opens her mouth reveals she is from South Wales.

This is Iseult White in the Telegraph

“Amnesty dines out on its reputation,” says White. “Newspapers parrot their findings. People assume what they say is correct. I did. It was only through this experience that my understanding was totally changed."

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/07/16/amnesty-critics-human-rights/

This isn't the first time they have got into trouble for causing harm with a dodgy report. They have previously had to apologise for a report on Ukraine that didn't consult the local branch in Ukraine, misrepresented international law, and was used as propaganda by Russia.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/apr/28/amnesty-international-leaked-review-ukraine-report-legally-questionable

"In particular, the report’s authors were criticised for language that appeared to suggest “many or most of the civilian victims of the war died as a result of Ukraine’s decision to locate its forces in the vicinity of civilians” at a time when Russian forces were deliberately targeting civilians."

However they still seem to be raking in money from relatively mainstream corporate sponsors and funders like the People's post code lottery (promoted by that nice Davina McCall) and the Co-op (the 'ethical' bank), while suggesting that to simply be a Christian is 'anti-rights'. Is this the Co-op's belief?

I would go as far as saying that by continuing to use the Amnesty name they are misrepresenting who they are.

Leaked Amnesty review finds own Ukraine report ‘legally questionable’

Language was also said to be ‘ambiguous’ and ‘imprecise’, according to the New York Times

There doesn't seem to be a word in the article from the Age about how gender ideology in Australia. You'd think it would warrant a sentence.

There’s a thread about it on TRA Reddit where they’re all saying she looks more of a man than them. Not transphobic at all to use it as an insult of course!

Yes, I remember the Twitter backlash they got at the time.

It's interesting that the main criticism that activists seem to have of JKR is that she is rich.

A woman is successful and powerful, and thus they cast her as evil.

Article in the Australian newspaper, The Age

Thanks, I commented, (on Twitter) like some others, that it was a refreshing surprise to see a decent article like that from that newspaper, in Traniban occupied Australia.

I feel we all skipped over this comment about holidaying with a Diddy man!

Speak for yourself,Chrys!
I was wondering if it was one the two new Diddymen recruited when Ken Dodd was accused of tax evasion:
Diddy Pay? and Diddy Hell!

He was acquitted so they were let go.
I thought that maybe it was one of them, using his redundancy payment to go on hols with Fridayyesterday .

The actual explanation is, as you say, Friday, 'less interesting'..😁
