Tempest v Rural Payments Agency Tribunal Thread 4

TT substack: https://tribunaltweets.substack.com/p/tempest-vs-defra-and-rural-payments

Tempest (a TW) is claiming discrimination, harassment and/or victimisation on grounds of gender reassignment. Central to the claim is the existence of the Sex Equality and Equity Network in the Civil Service (SEEN). SEEN has been granted right to intervene. Parts of the original claim against the co-chair of SEEN (Elspeth Duemmer-Wrigley) and another party (Andreas Mueller) were struck out or narrowed. Another claimant, PQ, is no longer part of the case.

I will also note that Elspeth still has a garden in need of seeds and water to support the ability of SEEN to be an intervenor in this case. The claim originated because she said "only women menstruate" and a search with her name and those terms at the usual gardening website should point you to her plot.

The condition is also known as "XY complete gonadal dysgenesis" so there is not just one correct name for it. (There is also a Swyer-James syndrome which is a lung disease, so possibly the term Swyer syndrome was not used because it could lead to confusion?)
And in the early 90ies, pre-internet and pre-trans-fuelled-intersex-hype, the name Swyer syndrome probably had not the name recognition it has today.
And what was actually withheld from her? Mainly the label of 'intersex' which is in itself scientifically dubious, but the thing she latched onto because she did not want to see herself as, in her own words, a 'malformed woman'.

I feel very sad for her circumstances, as @Boiledbeetle said it would be a mind fuck to know you have male DNA.

How this played out, for seemingly lack of emotional support has created an angry, woman with no anchor, until she found GI.

Instead of looking for people like herself she has latched on to a cause of people unlike herself.

Not realy clear why myself, but deffo social currency etc.

Lots of mention of A:gender in this thread from 2019, they’ve memory holed the original policy doc the thread was about. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/3520371-civil-service-trans-policy-what-can-i-do?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=app_share

That was the thread where women civil servants were being instructed on how to behave if the found a man claiming to be a woman in the women's toilets, changing rooms,. showers etc. No walking out, facial expression must be controlled, etc.
I always remember that thread as it so perfectly demonstrated the extreme levels of coercive control used by transactivists towards women and children. With the civil service being incredibly important as they're able to influence so many policies.
These people have never (until now) ever been told no - no matter how extreme their demands.

Yes, first time I’d heard of the ”Civil Service’s Best Kept Secret”.

Thank you to all the posters upthread.
As luck would have it I happened to listen to “Invisible Women” (by Caroline Criado Perez) a few months ago on Borrowbox (so free to borrow from a lot of libraries).

It is well worth getting hold of/borrowing.

As I understand Land Registry is based in the North West. The NW employs more Civil Servants than many other areas outside of London. This includes Manchester and Blackpool - both very heavy on Pride and Progess.

The area Land Registry is based employs around 7200 staff in various hubs. All very close to Blackpool which is and has been for some time very Pride orientated. In fairness the Pink Pound rescued the area from demise during the 80s.

Is there a case that certain regional areas people who identify out of sex reality are able to get a safe job and with DEI being everywhere it is a good move to be anything other than a heterosexual man/woman who just wants to do a job and go home. I cannot assume anything but being ‘untouchable’ a word I have encountered from the mouths of 3 men I worked with - who on realising they might up for redundancy or challenged about a poor work ethic - suddenly identified as women. So we gained mediocre men with mediocre work ethics, presenting as women but still being mediocre. But as they all said ‘ we are untouchable’. And they were then able to make suggestions about how we all needed to be ‘educated’. It is so egotistical and so divisive. And I think they know this. But the lie is now so big everywhere is captured under ‘be kind’.

The Land Registry is based in Croydon and has 13 further regional offices. There are two in the North-West - Birkenhead and Fylde.

As ever, there’s no attempt to define “gender”. Would’ve thought that was pretty fundamental.

And again, I cannot stress this enough - it is literalky MY job to know these things.'

Does it come with a lanyard?

Baby pink, white, and baby blue. This will thoroughly confuse the already confused, and helpfully give anyone who wears it a get-out clause when they are challenged for wrongthink.

A cunning plan

I doubt he’s even half as didactic in real life when there a real and ever-present threat of having a judgment not just overturned by the EAT but remitted back to the ET for a de-novo hearing because of his mis-ruling on this issue.

Good grief. I had assumed one base and that's why they are so far behind in some of their work (nearly 9 months for house sales last year). If i was looking for cuts i would certainly be asking wtf they are playing at if they have so many offices 😮

They've had a huge amount of work to do since compulsory land and property registration was introduced in 1998. About 15% of the land in the UK is still not registered, plus a surprising number of houses. Ten years ago we sold our long-time home (40+ years) which had two fields with it. Neither the house nor the land had been registered, so this had to be done as part of the sale.

Always the way - we don't get scones or womens rights or FWS here. Its rubbish.

Just catching up, but I have to take issue with this, we have way better scones than everyone else, bet you never get a mint aero scone in Cornwall!

My impression is that it was harder for her to accept being a woman with a medical condition, while finding out about her Y chromosome made her feel special.
There are fascinating details, she even says she had some of the ashes from her dead father mixed into the ink for her XY tattoo - ironically she describes herself as having been a 'Daddy's girl'.
I also wish she would have found a better way to deal with her issues than turning into a TRA fig leaf.

I wonder what the Venn diagram of people reading this thread and Cabin Pressure superfans looks like?

I'm only half way through this thread but CP fan reporting for duty.

Difficult to believe on many levels...! Good point about the wigs.

It did give me a chuckle though. These people have zero idea how they come across.

The pseudo-Frenchman is a mansplainer's mansplainer, par excellence.

More catching up but this caught my eye:

ED they are our handlers so to speak

Does she think she's in MI5? This ain't Slow Horses love, much as Jackson Lamb's take on this bonfire would be as entertaining as it would be sweary.
