Do you avoid the bathroom if there is a transwoman?

1000 replies

PeachyDaisy · 06/05/2026 02:05

I’m going to an industry event next week and I know there will be a transwoman attending. Should I use the disabled bathroom to avoid an awkward encounter or just continue to use the women’s and hope not to run into them?

Couldn’t give a flying fuck who is in the toilet or changing room next to me. It’s not somewhere I spend more than 2 minutes.

Exactly! So why are all these men complaining about being expected to use the men’s? I mean, surely it’s in, do your business, wash hands and leave. So they’ll be grand in the men’s.

Helleofabore · 14/05/2026 06:26

Majority groups have been focusing on removing trans people from the general population since at least the 1930s

Top marks for this emotional plea though. Female people rejecting male people’s demand to be considered female when those male people are not female is not removing trans people from the general public.

It’s emotional manipulation writ large isnt it.

There is no UK-based mechanism that I am aware of that can change my legal status from 'woman' to whatever status would allow/require me to then subsequently apply for a GRC

WTF are you on about? Either you have a GRC (or foreign equivalent), in which case there is no need to undo it and get another one. Or you don't, in which case the mechansim is the same as for anyone else wanting one.

Jolly good, another volunteer alongside Clio to share the mixed spaces with men to ‘affirm’ them as ‘women’. As a bonus you may even provide entertainment to some of those with more ‘niche’ fetishes.

Leaves more space in the female only provision for the rest of us women. Ta very much.

But how does it affect you, personally?

What, men in women's spaces? Do you really not understand why most women prefer women only changing rooms?

Blogswife · 14/05/2026 07:46

How about you just make that decision yourself based on how well you know that person , how quickly you need to pee and whether your disabled colleagues are happy for you to use the toilet designated for them instead of posting here to invite a load of outrage ?
I have a fear of seeing people puking . I don’t need to ask Mumsnet if I should wait or used the disabled loo if they’re in there vomiting , I just judge the situation at the time !

I have lived more than 40 years as an adult woman. I'm not trying to remove anything. Your labels and beliefs don't erase my experience, nor those of others.

I have lived more than 40 years as an adult woman.

Said no actual woman ever.

What do you think is deranged?

The provision of single sex spaces?

Women discussing men use women only spaces?

Women saying what they do when seeing a man in these spaces?

Asserting that women should continue to have sex-based rights is not at all equivalent to Nigel Farage?
The basic political difference (and I am not derailing by getting in to the rights or wrongs of immigration via small boats) is that women's sex-based rights are present as a bulwark against the oppressor class (males), whereas seen through the eqivalent political lense, Nigel Farage, as a male, wealthy, white European is part of the oppressor class, compared to.the small boat immigrant, who is equivalent within that construct, to the female, oppressed class.

Women wanting anything that men don’t want them to have - the vote, education, the right to equal pay, the right to their own bank account, the right to single-sex spaces - is deranged, doncha know.

I'm sure you will tell me now about the diagnoses and medical procedures Rachel Dolezal underwent before receiving cultural and state-documented acknowledgement of her reassignment of race? How many millions of Rachels are there out there across the world and across cultures? Has there been research on this for decades? The Rachel Dolezal comparison is always just basic transphobia.

I have a life, lived well. There is nothing sex realists can do to make my experiences untrue.

Edited

Are you aware of self ID policies in place across 12 EU countries where no diagnosis or surgeries are required.

Are you aware that if a magic magically says the words I am a woman people fall over themselves allowing breach of every boundary that protect a sex class. Reason for said sex class is that they are on balance physically weaker, due to carrying next generation need different legal protections and due to their adult human female biology have different experiences.

Suggestions that men who identify as women are indeed biological women is plain wrong in biology and law here. For very good reason.

No matter how you surgically modify your body your sex won’t change. That’s hard I know for you. And your experiences are your experiences. They are the experiences of a man who wants to be a woman. No woman could ever know what you’ve been through. As we are not men.

I'm certain Taztoy has thought of that and I hope has all the support that she needs.

I would hope there's the sensitivity to understand that whatever some men may want, there are women for whom this does not work and will not ever work. And as women are not some lesser kind of human or citizen, facilities obviously need to be accessible to all. Kindness and tolerance, diversity and inclusion, all involve equality of access, which means separate and parallel facilities.

Thankfully however this is all academic, as legally, the judgments keep coming back that it is harassment and discrimination to deprive women of single sex facilities in order to prioritise the wishes of men with gender identities.

Pingponghavoc · 14/05/2026 08:12

I know its been discussed her already, but its a strange argument to say that women don't need single sex spaces, but men need to use spaces away from other men.

So the 'women only space' exists only so that men can use them?

So lady like, so demure.

She answered honestly and now you’re mocking her.

Men in women’s spaces affects females differently. We don’t need a grading system or to share trauma. We just need men to get back to where they belong - in the men’s. And if your ideology prohibits that find a mixed sex space to use the facilities. It won’t validate you but that’s not the point of toilets.

It would be better to direct that response to all the men who feel they have the right to use women's spaces.

unfortunately a rape so disturbing and unpleasant that if I describe it on here it is deleted on the grounds that it’s too upsetting for others to read isnt something I can just give to someone else to “hold”.

I’ve personally known three trans people and I can confirm that yes, they are just trying to live their lives.

If you know 3 TWs I have a question; why do so many take selfies in the womens toilets and post them on the internet? Women do not do this. I think they get extra kudos if there are women and girls in the background. But of course, they just want to pee and live their life. I think you are naive about their intentions.

Pingponghavoc · 14/05/2026 08:27

When people think that its no big deal when adult men use women spaces, they are saying that its no big deal that men are giving themselves the opportunity/chance to be alone in a women only space with a girl or vulnerable woman.

They may have to use that space a hundred or more times, but eventually they will be there alone with a girl or vulnerable woman.

The more normal it becomes, the more accepting we are, the more these men will use the spaces and put themselves in that position.

Why would a decent man want to be in that position and why would a decent man want to potentially upset a girl like that?
