Bluestocking Women’s Pub - it’s Maytime!

Welcome to any women who want the company of women!

Thats it really….ok so this place is staffed by gerbils with the occasional quokka or capybara but it functions like a friendly pub where you don’t have to know what’s going on all the time.
The drinks don’t intoxicate and the food is delicious yet healthy so please do come in.

Link to the post about Wolef.

I'll have to work out how to do this. Probably as a draft in substack so I can get the link then immediately on the Bluestocking. I want you all to read it first but it's easier to edit the substack than MN.

Northbound by Narrowboat

Gosie follows the canal routes in search of Fuzzypuffling, only to discover she’s heading the wrong way entirely

Ooh, I'm getting the ads for Danish Endurance underwear now! Men's boxers in my case.

Glad Woley was able to put Gosie straight. Will be interesting to see how long it takes to find Fuzzy, and how many patrons she'll meet on the way.

I saw this today, Maggers.
Not only your favourite make, but in your colours, too.

Afternoon everyone! Been busy at my end, but have been following along with most things, especially Gosie's adventures. Interesting to see that Gosie now has her own site!

I must say, Gosie's little face has been looking increasingly perplexed and perhaps a bit sad?? This has become quite the mission!

Bar gerbils, I really need a large hot chocolate with extra cream and a few cinnamon biscuits please. Why is May so cold this year??

Oh, that's a thing of beauty! I assume you drove off with it - I'll pop round later to collect it, yes?

AngleofRepose · 16/05/2026 15:41

Just started a new book, Pandora's Breeches: Women, Science and Power in the Enlightenment, by Patricia Fara, sometime Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge.

So far, it's all about the forgotten women and their achievements, and the views of women's achievements through the lens of late-seventeenth and early-eighteenth century patriarchy. Lots of women I'd never heard of before (never having studied the Enlightenment period), but starts by talking about Mary Wollstonecraft (who I also must read, and have tried, but I do find eighteenth-century writing nearly impenetrable. Why use thirteen words when five will do? Same reason I find Jane Austen hard work)

The book was originally published in 2004, when "woman" meant "woman" so I won't have to spend any extra time throwing it across the room at regular intervals.

Are Garment and her crack team from the laundry room available for private hire? I have to do some ironing. I hate ironing, and do it as infrequently as possible, but next week's thing involves the media and I should probably look respectable.

MyrtleLion · 16/05/2026 16:03

Here are the first two posts on my substack. A summary of the Bluestocking and a bit about Gosie.

They're on it!

It's not really Maud. But the gerbils love her so much they want to be her.

That's it, I'm outsourcing all my laundry to the gerbils, effective immediately!

Does Grace have three hands, or is there another unnamed gerbil standing behind me?

Best not to ask, I think...

Thehorticulturalhussie · 16/05/2026 16:59

@MyrtleLion
I am hugely invested in Gosie's quest, so much so that I have been explaining it to Hunter who is an excellent listener. The Saluki is an ancient dog breed with a superb race memory of tracking and hunting across all sorts of terrain and if Gosie needs a guide then he'd be Very Happy Indeed to apply for the position. I have tried to explain to him that Gosie isn't actually asking for help but, well, this bee is buzzing loudly in his bonnet. We will continue to cheer from the Bluestocking of course (well, Hunter will be in the garden with Colin) but I have a fancy for a Friday strawberry daiquiri please bar gerbils.

Edith, I can report back that I have seen no fabulous tractors in my very recent visits to the City, so I very much appreciate the occasional picture to tide me over.

Thehorticulturalhussie · 16/05/2026 17:01

SATURDAY strawberry daiquiri. Obviously.

Some of you may be amused, alarmed or unsurprised to learn that I have started a Substack called The Department of Gerbil Affairs.

It is essentially the Bluestocking nonsense I post here, currently focused on Gosie’s adventures, but over time I’ll also add gerbil spectaculars, Peak Woo incidents, capybara infrastructure developments and other important events of public interest.

To be absolutely clear: everything will still be posted on the Bluestocking thread first and I'll share the link to the Bluestocking post on the Substack post. The Substack is more of a way to keep all of the stories together

It is also proudly about 90% written by ChatGPT, because life is short and the gerbils are tireless.

Are you sure letting the gerbils do the admin is wise?

"Thank you for signing up. Your paperwork is now being processed by highly committed administrative gerbils with mixed levels of competence and excellent intentions."

Good catch. It may be a worry... Unless Grünhilde is in charge.

SATURDAY strawberry daiquiri. Obviously.

I thought it was Friday earlier too.

Insufficient daiquiris I’d say.

Magpiecomplex · 16/05/2026 18:09

I've spent all week thinking it was Thursday.

It's entirely free for now. I haven't set up payments so I'll try and remove the pledges thing.

Obviously when Gosie gets famous and wants only the best sunflower seeds I'll have to have premium content to pay for it.

Let's gloss over the details. It's mostly automated...

MyrtleLion · 16/05/2026 18:22

Pledges removed.
