Bluestocking Women’s Pub - it’s Maytime!

Welcome to any women who want the company of women!

Thats it really….ok so this place is staffed by gerbils with the occasional quokka or capybara but it functions like a friendly pub where you don’t have to know what’s going on all the time.
The drinks don’t intoxicate and the food is delicious yet healthy so please do come in.

Morning! It's raining here, good for the veg bed 😀

Hedgehogforshort · 01/05/2026 09:08

Morning

DeanElderberry · 01/05/2026 09:08

It rained a lot here yesterday and it was good for pulling dock roots out of the soft ground.

EmpressaurusKitty · 01/05/2026 09:09

Good morning! Thanks the new thread!

Boiledbeetle · 01/05/2026 09:27

<yawns, rolls over, opens eyes>

What the hell. This isn't where I went to sleep.

MarieDeGournay · 01/05/2026 09:29

Edith, there's a mention of a certain doggie's birthday on the old thread.. Wink

PastaAllaNorma · 01/05/2026 09:31

Ooo, did we redecorate overnight? It's quite light and airy.

Boiledbeetle · 01/05/2026 10:34

Having had to return to the old thread to retrieve my secret stash of Tunnock's I'm off for a shower.

Oh Glenda, close your mouth, the dirt will miraculously disappear once I've left the room. Besides it's not my fault, you can blame whichever gerbil removed the loft hatch and hid the access point.

Reminders to @Chickadeeinme @ChristmasStars @AngleofRepose that we've moved to this location.

I got an un/expected cheque today (inheritance from parents, the admin has taken forever) and even though it will take more than week to clear I have ordered some home heating oil.

(After lodging the cheque in the bank, obviously, daft but not totally so)

And have toned down the anxiety arising from my impulse purchase on Thursday, when after two days straining without success to start the petrol driven lawnmower I said sod this, drove into town, demanded 'Your finest rechargeable electrical machine my good man' (or words to that effect) (those words might have led to a negative reaction) and returned home half an hour later considerably poorer but with a machine that starts without any effort on my part.

I got a lot of grass cut before the incessant rain arrived back.

Now have to decide what else to buy. Two gravestones, some insulation, a bed . . . .

ifIwerenotanandroid · 01/05/2026 12:22

Just claiming my place here before I start cooking while listening to Van der Graaf Generator (my one & only scientific joke from many threads ago).

MyrtleLion · 01/05/2026 12:31

Off to a garden centre. I have actually pretended I have a dental appointment to get out of a meeting. I'm such a rebel.

Champagne with the neighbours later to celebrate the new patio. They are providing the champagne. Probably because we have improved their view...

Delighted to have made it on to the first page this time 😄

Thank you for the new thread, Errol.
Beannachtaí na Bealtaine, May Day greetings to everybody🌸

It's lovely to see old friends here, and hopefully new ones too - feel free to pop in any time, there's always a friendly welcome, as well as all the delicious food and drink you could possibly want, available instantly in huge quantities, and magically devoid of any tricky stuff like gluten or calories.

We even have Bolly on draft, as I proudly pointed out on another thread😁

During the last thread we realised that it only takes a day away from the Bluestocking to find that the conversation has moved on in giant leaps, usually in entirely unpredictable directions, leaving it hard to step back in.
We came up with the 👻emoji to mean 'here I am, I know I'll never catch up with everything that's happened, good or bad, but hello again everybody!'

So don't be a stranger,👻us if you've been away for a whileSmile

edited to remove those random asterisks that sometimes appear, making it look like I'm **ing swearing at you!😁

Batshit says thank-you-very-much-Marie. She is enjoying her official birthday. Activities so far include:
Long walk (preceded by overjoyed 'It's my birthday!' barking)
Breakfast
Sunbathing indoors
Blagging attention off a visitor
Sunbathing outdoors (once it had warmed up)
Rooting in the flowerbeds for MICES
More sunbathing

She's about to have the choice of helping in the garden, having a sleep on a comfy sofa or, er, sunbathing.

Brains has shared in all the activity, appears oblivious to it being Batshit's birthday and is currently...
.
.
.
Sunbathing.

It's a dog's life.

Just finished work. Large Rosé Malbec please - I need it

WearyAuldWumman · 01/05/2026 15:03

The Morello cherry is covered in blossom this year.

As I keep admitting, my garden is a mess but I'm seeing some bonny flowers coming through. I still have some daffs, lungwort and viola labradorica. My first Welsh poppy is open and there's blossom on the hawthorn.

There are sparrows going daft in the cherry tree. Looking for insects, maybe?
