Bluestocking Women’s Pub - it’s Maytime!

Welcome to any women who want the company of women!

Thats it really….ok so this place is staffed by gerbils with the occasional quokka or capybara but it functions like a friendly pub where you don’t have to know what’s going on all the time.
The drinks don’t intoxicate and the food is delicious yet healthy so please do come in.

I wonder if I could engineer a showdown between the ants and the pigeons? 🤔
Furthermore, I wonder which would win!

Honestly, I'd bet on the ants if I had to. I remember watching one of David Attenborough's progs, which had killer fire ants in the jungle. Yikes.

Speaking of which, DA will be 100 in a few days!

Can you imagine being the third Attenborough brother? It's such a recognisable surname, he must have spent so much of his life answering questions about it.
I think I'd bet on the ants too.

Hello ladies
I’m new here but it looks like a great place to meet friends and gerbils.
Can my dog and I I come in please and can I have a large Bombay Sapphire and tonic?

Hello and welcome!

Thank you! You seem like a lovely bunch of women and I’m looking forward to getting to know you better.
I’m in the SW so it’s raining just now but the garden needs it. My garden is a chalk hillside and I have spent 5 years getting it in order though it’s definitely quite wild by choice.
Thanks to the rain my kitchen definitely has the aroma of Eau de Damp Dog.
Bottoms up ladies 🍸

Welcome to @Thehorticulturalhussie :-)

@AngleofRepose DH tells me Parsonsfield used to be in the northwest corner of Cumberland county, but is now apparently in Oxford county, where the casino is.

ErrolTheDragon · Yesterday 17:19

We’re in the northwest, rain due later which is needed here too. Meanwhile DH is trundling to and fro across the lawn spreading fertiliser, he’s been waiting for a day when the grass was dry but rain definitely forecast to water it in.
I got the other side of the lawn edged before that. I’d meant to start by spreading some of the nice pile of soil lurking in the back corner of the garden, the result of stacking the turf from last years edging. Only to find that it’s absolutely infested with bindweed which has invaded under the back fence. Not sure what I should do with it! This years edging turf has therefore all gone into old compost sacks at least for now.

It used to bug me that Americans had reused so many British placenames but put them in the wrong places. York really shouldn’t to be to the west of Lancaster, for instance.

Rain's arrived here in Kent. Also much needed.

Chickadeeinme · Yesterday 17:26

@ErrolTheDragon New England generally is a geographic mishmash if you only look at British placenames :-)

Chickadeeinme · Yesterday 17:27

And actually Maine is among the worst, as the signpost in the photo will testify:

You're not wrong!

AngleofRepose · Yesterday 17:29

Yes, pouring rain here, as well. Good thing I forgot to spray the weeds on the driveway! (or couldn't be bothered)

Does that help explain why some tourists think they can ‘do’ Europe in a fortnight?Grin

I'm afraid I never knew what county it was in when I was a kid, it was just "we'ah goin' up theyah to the fahm, and it's a ways ta go!"

Hello ladies
I’m new here but it looks like a great place to meet friends and gerbils.
Can my dog and I I come in please and can I have a large Bombay Sapphire and tonic?

It certainly is!
You're very welcome, it looks like you are aware of what's on the menu at the Bluestocking: anything you want, in any quantity up to an including a swimmingpoolfulSmile
What's your dog's name? We have a resident dachs called Colin, the only male allowed in the Bluey,a recent arrival called Margo, who has settled in very well - cocktail sausages on demand helped I think - and Edith keeps us entertained with stories about her two wonderful dogs, Brains and Batshit.

Have I missed out any doggies? I think it's fair to say that there's a preference for cats here.

That's pets. As you've gathered, there are working animals galore here - bar-tending gerbils, building maintenance capybaras, support animal camels, a red panda hugger called Rosie - if they're cute enough, we'll find some role for them here😄
Does anybody else remember the puggle that joined us some time ago?
Keeps herself to herself out in the back garden, but she's still as cute as ever.

I tried making some nice soil once doing the turf thing, and all I got was a slimy mess! Threw it onto the compost heap, too.

Is that... is that a platypus!

Welcome to the Bluestocking! Don't forget to check your seat before you sit down. Sometimes the gerbils like to "hang out."

I rather fear sliminess if the new lot stays in the bags. Though they work ok for leaf mould, and there’s a good bit of soil on the clods.

Yep. That's the semi-official word for a baby platypus.

DeanElderberry · Yesterday 17:53

I don't know who that is - Puggles went back to Oz, the Quokkas keep up with her and visit when they're down under.

I suspect it's gerbils in a fancy costume.

DeanElderberry · Yesterday 18:02

It's taken them a while and reminds me of the horrific decoration someone put together in church for Easter, with a small ceramic representation of the empty tomb with the rock rolled away surrounded by stuffed bunnies and chicks (that looked like ducks) - if it was all at one scale they would have been about four times the height of a human.

a soldier? a gardener? an angel? a fluffy duckie?

ok, now, that is super creepy! Well done, managing to make ducklings and gerbils scary!
