Great news, Cake. When I had a tattoo for radiotherapy after my lumpectomy it turned out to be a tiny dot marking where the beam needed to focus. I'm glad you only have five sessions to do. When I had it nearly 30 years ago. I was part of a trial to see whether 15 more powerful doses or 25 less powerful had the best results. I was put on the 25 dose arm of the trial which meant 5 x 88 mile round trips a week for 5 weeks. One of drawbacks to living in the medical desert that is rural Mid-Wales....

Brutal! At least I actually lived two streets away from the hospital during my sessions (I did have to move away from that house afterwards, too many horrible memories)

"Android, your viburnum is beautiful!"

Bet you say that to all the androids!

It is an exceptionally beautiful example in those photos.

Nothing untoward going on here, Boily. You just have a filthy mind (& probably a bad attitude). Marie will be capturing me in oils any minute now.

The gerbils were very excited at the idea of seated star-jumps @WearyAuldWumman and decided to incorporate them into their exercise class.

Now, that actually looks dangerous! I hope they know what they're doing 😬

Love it!

I can assure you that none of those at Senior Flex managed to go into orbit - unlike the central gerbil there!

Great news Cake - I'm happy for you. Tattoos are very fashionable anyway, innit.

I can style it out as a midlife crisis. I wonder if I could pick a design. An azure sock, to pick an example at random.

ENT says there is nothing physically wrong with my voice and my vocal cords are not inflamed. This sounds like good news but isn't because a physical cause is easy to treat.

Apparently I have tension in my neck and need to relax my voice so I'm being referred to Speech Therapy. Which will be more exercises to do, just as for my arm and ankle that I won't do, because my executive function is so rubbish.

My ASD referral questionnaire x10 (no I'm not joking) came through and then it will be 12 weeks from filling them in before I get an appointment. Which will take time because of my lack of executive function.

I also have to fight Virgin Media AGAIN because instead of the £123 credit I.was promised they still say I owe £210 and I have to pay £70 because they've applied credit. Two more emails were sent by me today. I will go to the Ombudsman if it's not fixed because this is my fourth or fifth complaint. I will probably cancel the direct debit until they sort it out.

The MRI was fine except they asked me about music and I was very disregulated and in tears because of the ENT. If they had said in advance I could choose music I could have planned ahead. So I asked for ballads assuming I would get some Celine Dion and the Carpenters or similar, and ended up with modern songs I don't know. Fortunately there was a digital countdown clock for each scan which I could look at.

So the Walrus went out and actually bought real gin to help.

I know you will all want to help and make suggestions and that's very kind but I am so upset that I won't receive them very well. And if anyone suggests mindfulness, meditation or yoga I will most definitely not find that helpful. They fuck with my head. Seriously.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 24/04/2026 18:01

No suggestions, @MyrtleLion , just a virtual hug while I tell you you've been very brave today, you've been through a lot & you're utterly fantastic.

And that when I tried to do an MRI, I had to get out before it even started. So you win, you clever old thing.

If it helps, when I was in Rose Street yesterday, I passed Dirty Dick's.

It's the first time I've noticed it. I recall Mum mentioned it - she was in service (as a housekeeper) in Edinburgh, 1939-52. I recall she said that it had stuffed animals hanging from the ceiling.

There was a pub in Macclesfield called The Cock in Treacle. Now, I'm not one to kink shame...

I know a gay couple who used to live in a house that had formerly been a pub...

The Cock.

I think they only found out after they'd bought it.

Thank you. It was just my foot so I didn't have my head in the machine. It wasn't so bad in itself.

My only suggestion...

More gin.

EdithStourton · 24/04/2026 18:10

Magpie, should you move jobs, would you escape from the world of bad mullets, Schoffel gilets and trips to agricultural machinery fairs?

Or just shift to a different part of it?

You've had quite a week Myrtle and no one can blame you for feeling fed up.

It sounds like The Walrus has the right approach.

Sending virtual hugs🤗

I second that. Myrtle, here's the whole trolley.

I see that Gillian is still running exercise classes. She can give that a rest for the evening and wait on you hand and foot until you feel better.

Bloody hell 😳

I'm relatively lucky regarding travel although it's not my local hospital. I can get the train. Unfortunately the last time I checked the bus to the hospital leaves two minutes before the train gets in, then it's an hour until the next one. It's walkable, a couple of miles (uphill 😥). The exercise will save me money and do me good. I'm concerned because, according to the leaflet, radiotherapy may cause fatigue* so I'm worried I won't be able to make it up the hill. I'll slowly cross that bridge if I get there.

  • I'm totally going to lean into this at home

Cake, it can cause fatigue the longer it goes on, so hopefully you won't have that problem with only 5 sessions.

Is that Glenda hiding in the trolley, behind the Southern Comfort ? (nasty, nasty stuff)

I don't think so - the bottle is still full.
It might just be Gubbins, 'exploring'.

Edited

I was very much younger and got through it reasonably well. I think I only had to ask DH to do the driving twice. I'd taken voluntary redundancy not long before, so wasn't working, which meant I could take my time and listen to audio books during the journeys.

It's a very historic place, apparently. I've never been inside.
