I wonder how one gets a ferret into a carrier? Would they have to reverse in?

I imagine a capybara just gives it a shove? (gently)

The lectures we watched on the history of Impressionism before our recent trip to Paris included a fair bit about two women Impressionists Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt and the differences in their subjects vs the men. No nudes for sure!

Forgot about Berthe Morisot , one of my favs!

EdithStourton · 29/04/2026 19:09

To hark back to the earlier Merlin convo, it gave me an impressive list for my garden the other day.

One of them was 'Moorhen'.
This seemed unlikely, so I played it back.

Lovely collection! I recognise lots of them, and I too assumed that was Fuzzy😄
Who's the woman second from top right? B&W photo? Asking for a friend😍

Isn't that a very young Katharine Hepburn?

Ermines are ferrets, right? So she'd have got in no prob.😄

Marie, this is one of my all time favorite paintings- I saw at the National Museum (whatever it's called) in Krakow. I think there was a Leonardo da Vinci exhibition.

FuzzyPuffling · 29/04/2026 19:16

I'm very fond of Dame Kaura Knight. She's from the same area as me and her paintings hung in the local museum without fanfare...and then the rest of the world discovered her!

MyrtleLion · 29/04/2026 18:40

I have many of the same postcards and magnets.

@AngleofRepose, Gosie texted me to say she could pop into the Bluestocking this evening if you want; she's on her way past... But also says she was sure you'd work it out. Something about the back stairs up past the library (watch out for the flying squirrel librarians) and then down again using the steps behind the 14th bookcase on the left (feminism from the mid 16th century - Marie's complete works are there).

Apparently the hatch that used to be opens up around there...

No need to interrupt her journey, I know she has things to be getting on with. Just glad she's in the loop now.

Excellent! Now that I have a steer in the right direction, I shall do some exploring, perhaps on Friday. (tomorrow is more house hunting)

Don't let on that you've been in touch with Gosie. I don't want the rest of the gerbils panicking. You know what Glenda is like when she gets nervous...

It was terrifying. And this was before my broken leg and subsequent mobility issues.

My sympathies. And £65 each for that.

AngleofRepose · 29/04/2026 19:22

Gwen John is another artist I like.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/04/2026 19:47

Radio 4 is talking about the underrepresentation of women artists in the U.K. at the moment.

There's a Gwen John exhibition on in Cardiff at the moment. Have you been @AngleofRepose!

Sorry, Angle, I didn't spot that you'd answered already!

EdithStourton · 29/04/2026 19:56

I was back down in the valley bottom with B&B this afternoon. I tried and failed to get another photo of the marsh marigold for Marie - couldn't find it.

I did a buzzard, though - perhaps last week's buzzard. It was riding the wind, facing right into it and holding steady with tiny adjustments of its wings. And then I had to attend to B&B, and lost sight of it.

The pair of them have guided me to three forms in as many days. I'd never find them on my own, but the dogs road in on the scent and sniff around them very excitedly (I assume that they're trying to tell me, 'Big one! A sally! Only just gone!') Today's hare was an under-the-feet job. Monday's, unusually, got up and ran when we were neither near nor far.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned the dentist.

I had a crown preparation last Tuesday. The next day some of the temporary composite had come off so I arranged for more to be put on on Thursday.

By Sunday I had a swollen tongue from a sharp part of the tooth, so emailed my dentist for a return visit on Monday. Some of the composite was polished away and I was much more comfortable.

Until this evening when some of it lifted and I had that lurching fear that my tooth was coming out.

Presumably I'll be back at the dentist tomorrow 😞

Blanket update!

Four tiny Little Hugs for premature babies and the larger blanket are now safely in their package. Royal Mail will collect them tomorrow on 24 hour tracked delivery to Woolly Hugs HQ.

Maybe I'll be privileged by Maud herself opening them, but I know they're busy with wafflenose's blanket.

I'm not in pain with the tooth, (though the sharp bit was sore) it's just the interruption of my day with having to travel, wait, be treated and then come back.

And I keep forgetting to claim back some of the cost. If I'd done it last Tuesday I'd have had the refund by now!

I don't know that photo but this one used to be on my wall until... I dunno, everything got cleared away for decorating or something, I had to google it to find it again.

It used to be my go-to nightmare but now that is the urgent need to find the very important thing...

Large hot chocolate bowser please, bar gerbil. Junior Master Magpie and I have been creating a university shortlist. He's doing a rather unusual set of A levels (mix of sciences and performing arts) and can't decide what he wants to study, so we've gone for unis which feature on two or three of the Times rankings for his subjects, within the appropriate offer range, and that meet his preference for not being in the middle of a city. That took a Dominos order and a couple of hours, and my brain is now dribbling out of my ears. Still got to book open days but that can be a job for the weekend.

It was a thank you note from my neighbour, and I was absolutely enchanted to see it.

Julia from the Carman Thyssen art gallery in Málaga was the first Inspirational Woman on my fridge. I flaming love Julia. She has no fucks to give and has no time for anyone's nonsense.
