Grace Campbell - Alastair Campbell

If I have missed any threads already started about this then apologies.

I am literally lost for words on the post she added to her podcast along with Charlie Craggs.

My own daughter has been lost to this cause. I am hoping I get her back. How utterly vile can a young woman be - Grace Campbell - towards women who have worked so hard to give her such privilege. I might be ugly and a freak Grace with awful hair. But I am not a mean girl.

I love Dominic Sandbrook - I said on Twitter the other day I wish JK Rowling would go on his Book Club podcast just to see Campbell burst a blood vessel and he replied to me that she'd be very welcome. 😁He'd even apologise for dissing Harry Potter years ago.

Oh, could you imagine?

I'm already a standard subscriber to TRIH but I'd become an Aethelstan (or what ever the BookClub equivalent is) to listen to that!

Come on JKR, you know you want to...

Oh, wow, I'd pay £5 to see that!

She went to a prestigious all-girl ex grammar school.

I think the assumption that she went to a private school comes from the sense of entitlement that she radiates, her privilege in getting a leg up into writing and comedy and her inane views.

Just to add, there are plenty of people who've been to private schools who don't exude entitlement and privilege or hold inane views!

Bluebootsgreenboots · 23/04/2026 18:11

Interesting @POWNewcastleEastWallsend- I sensed that there would be a tale like that in there. Thanks for adding your voice.
So are you suggesting that it’s partly due to AC that we’re in this situation due to his pushing of the GRA?

Where does Alistair Campbell think trans activism and ideology sprang from? It certainly wasn't a thing at all when he was in his prime...... long before social media and echo chambers where a thing that people would get lost to the world in.

Well exactly. Does he (and other bandwagon jumpers) think that these loud, aggressive, demanding, coercive etc etc "trans" people have all just been suffering in silence for previous decades ( or even centuries)?
Where were they? Were they all hiding under the bed for most of history and then suddenly, as if by magic, all found their voice at the exact same time and started jumping up and down in sync about how marginalised and oppressed they are?
Or is there, perhaps, something else going on?
Hmmmm 🤔

Not according to mumsnet, there aren’t😂😂😂.
However given Grace’s parents’ anti private schools views, it’s quite funny several posters assumed she was privately educated.
Fiona Millar and someone else - I forget who - started a website opposing private education but it petered out through lack of interest.

Also a bit silly to describe her school as an ex-grammar school, given that the 11+ was abolished in most of London in the mid 1970s. A great many London schools were grammar schools before that but a huge amount of water has gone under the bridge since.

There's anti-private education, and there's anti-private education while being rich enough to live in the kind of area where the schools' demographics, resourcing etc are very similar to private.

We all know which the Campbell-Millars are.

Let them eat cake...

Very true @teawamutu

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/04/2026 08:54

Agreed, as I said (twice) a long way up the thread. However, I would still prefer their approach to that of Jeremy Corbyn, who wanted his son to go to the nearest comprehensive on principle, even though it was failing. His wife told him if he insisted on that their marriage would be over, and she prevailed. The boy went instead to a grammar school in an outlying suburb. (The marriage ended anyway.) Fine to make your own life a misery for the sake of your political principles. Not fine to make your children's lives miserable unnecessarily.

There's an awful lot you can obfuscate under education.

I remember when Owen Jones told us his parents were teachers. It wasn't until years later we discovered his mum was a full professor. (Okay, his dad was a full-time organiser for Militant, which was never a well-paid job, but still.)

Mmmnotsure · 24/04/2026 09:14

Grace Campbell went to Parliament Hill School - all girls (though how she and her father knew they were girls is anyone's guess) - on the edge of Hampstead Heath.

https://www.spiked-online.com/2026/04/24/the-arrogant-alastair-campbell-was-no-match-for-the-great-jk-rowling/

the indefatigable Julie Burchill:

'It’s a cliché that the kind of men who seek out a damn good thrashing from Miss Whiplash in a Bayswater basement are, in everyday life, arrogant types – judges and the like – but there’s definitely something to it. Do the men who seek to provoke her simply want to be put in their place by her? '

The arrogant Alastair Campbell was no match for the great JK Rowling

Tony Blair’s trans-pandering former spin doctor has finally been cut down to size.

That was in the dignified period of AC's employment history, before he became court jester to Bob Maxwell

Indeed, bearing in mind the headlines in recent months he's been remarkably quiet for someone closely acquainted with both the Maxwell family, and with the person known to the Book of Common Prayer as "Prince of this world" and to the Daily Telegraph as "Lord Mandelson"

One might even say he seems keen to have a heated debate on any other subject
