Just pointing this out, separate from any threads it may have been mentioned on, so people not involved on those threads can be aware.

Does anyone know where/when it will be published?

Thank you so much for the commentary - I’ve just finished work and read through it all.

Is it fair to say that it was quite an encouraging debate on the whole? It seemed like there were a lot of different voices criticising the delay and speaking up on behalf of women, and generally pointing out the ridiculousness of it all.

Yes, there were a lot speaking up for women.
Many used very no-nonsense, cut-the-crap language - I was surprised (in a good way). We've got so used to waffle and word salad when it comes to this subject, it's really great to hear people speak clearly and say what they mean.
I thought Claire Coutinho in particular spoke really well.

Here is an article by Julie Bindel about this entitled "Why I despise Olivia Bailey MP"

juliebindel.substack.com/p/why-i-despise-olivia-bailey-mp

Thank you. I thought I had the measure of Dolores Umbridge Olivia Bailey after that MN thread but seems her hateful conduct towards women and their rights goes back for years.

It's an act of extreme Umbridgian sadism to impose such a woman on the populace as an alleged 'Equalities Minister'

Kinsters · 14/04/2026 16:29

@RockaLock I didn't watch the whole thing but I think this was very encouraging. Lots of great GC points were made and there were barely any TRA voices. Where were they all? The governments feet dragging suggests they must be a substantial presence but that was not in evidence at this debate. The only other debate I can recall watching on this issue was the one where Layla Moran made her "soul seeing" comment which according to Google was back in (I can't quite believe it!) 2018. This debate, or what I saw, was worlds ahead of that one. And I remember at the time back in 2018 thinking "wow how great that they're having this debate, fab progress".

I suspect that the government problem isn't so much with activist backbenchers, although they certainly exist, as it is with the almost entirely captured unions.

Good point, I'd forgotten about them. They're involved in nominating the Labour party leader, aren't they? Yes that makes a lot of sense that they are a massive sticking point. Not very democratic 🤔

"We have been working tirelessly on giving this matter the attention it needs"

I don't tend to get very tired when I don't actually do any work. Possibly MPs are the same.

ItsCoolForCats · 14/04/2026 16:52

Marie Goldman did seem to be a bit of a lone voice. She was a great time playing the TRA bingo card. Ed Davey was at it last night as well on the Ian Dale show on LBC (something about toxicity, needing to take the heat out of the debate blah blah...)

Where were the other TRA MPs?

India is dropping self ID, too.

I read that as Willoughby and was like, WHAT??! No Way!!!

And then I was 'oh... '. Mmhmmm.

🤣

Here it is:

Statement

This government has always supported the protection of single-sex spaces based on biological sex. The Supreme Court’s ruling last year brought clarity for women and service providers such as hospitals and refuges, and made clear that protections for trans people remain in the Equality Act.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is the independent equality regulator and ensures compliance with the Equality Act 2010. Their Code of Practice on Services, Public Functions and Associations covers all nine protected characteristics and the steps service providers should take to comply with the law. We share the EHRC’s commitment to ensuring duty bearers have accurate and up-to-date guidance on the Equality Act 2010 including in the light of the recent Court rulings.

We are grateful to the EHRC for their work on the updated draft Code following engagement and further legal analysis. The EHRC is rightly focussed on ensuring the updated Code is robust, accessible and ensures duty bearers can be confident that it is a clear and accurate explanation of the law.

The government received the updated draft on 13 April. The Code will apply across Great Britain and as we are currently in the pre-election period for the devolved administrations, we are unable to make further announcements on this matter at this time. However, we are taking urgent action to meet our intention of laying the Code in May and as soon as practicable after the election period, for Parliamentary scrutiny.

We are getting it right, showing leadership by implementing the clarity the Supreme Court ruling delivers.

Well the first sentence is a downright lie.

Yep the unions are a fucking disgrace on this. To the point that they won't represent women like Sandie Peggie or Jennifer Meille or the Darlington nurses. They should be ashamed of themselves. It really makes me quite cross!!

What needs to happen is for a load of women to take a union to court to reclaim their fees for the past 20 years when they fail to represent them in upholding their right to single sex spaces (i.e. the law).

Especially the public sector ones where a large chunk of their money comes from the women they're throwing under the bus.

Can't stand this one. I joined the wrong queue a few months ago (wanted the bar, joined the queue for the gents') and within five seconds someone explained to me I was in the wrong queue. No genital inspection or anything. How did he know I'm female??? It's so impossible to tell! It's such private information!!!

It happened to me a few months ago too - they've renovated the loos in one of the railway stations I use and I inadvertently started to go towards the mens' - a bloke stopped me and pointed me towards the ladies.

How did he know I was a woman. I wasn't wearing heels or a dress!

Trans people deserve to live love laugh. Ban on conversion practises.Brady review. Adding sex and gender to hate crime aggravator.

Edited

About that hate crime.aggravator - this is adding gender identity, as well as sex, as aggravators. So trans identifying people who are already covered under the pc of transgender identity will presumably be covered twice?

I completely agree! I think Sandie Peggie is taking the Royal College of Nursing to court on the basis that they refused to represent her in her case against NHS Fife. I haven't heard much about it, but she is a warrior (with funding), so hopefully it will go the distance. It is such an important area to have addressed, from a political perspective, as well as the basic protection that women should be able to expect.

DustyWindowsills · 14/04/2026 18:20

I haven't RTFT and I only had a chance to see Rosie Duffield speaking, so haven't done my homework – sorry. But who was the absolute twit of a woman who intervened to say that the poor TW wouldn't be able to qualify for their GRCs if they couldn't use women's bogs to help them "live as a woman"?

IIRC it was Marie Goldman, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson (Women and Equalities)

All credit to @TheNoWord for knowing who everyone was!

It seems to be a pre req for Lib Dems selection. People think Lib Dem are harmless but they are very anti women rights.

Oh this TRA woman really can do one. Nice response from the N Irish chap of don't be ridiculous though 😂

I've just finished watching. She has to be a GC plant. She just has to be. If not then she's just not very bright.

They do, very often. Whittome, for example. Less intelligent than my cat, by a long way.

No way was that 2018! I remember changing my username to WeBuiltCisCityOnSeeingSouls.

It’s shocking and depressing how long we have been fighting for this. Would they ever just get the fuck on with it.

inarticulate day today.
