”Terf watch” sound chilling - fabulous sunlight on how TRAs have organised themselves

OP posts:
AlexaAdventuress · 25/02/2026 16:04

Hmm. Not too sure about this trauma 'frame' - it's as if not wanting men present is a trauma response' that you can't 'reason yourself out of'. Well, some of us might not want to talk about our personal lives in front of men getting their jollies for feminist kind of reasons too!

Helleofabore · 25/02/2026 16:04

Terf watch is absolutely chilling. When it comes to cancelling venues because the women hold the belief that female people need single sex provisions, in this case a place to meet to heal such as this group has which is so important, it is dire.

Augarden · 25/02/2026 16:12

"Terf Watch Brighton called the need for single sex services a myth."

Who are they to say what women need or don't need?

FallenSloppyDead3 · 25/02/2026 16:15

I think it is of interest that BBC have chosen to write this article at all, and its framing is not unsympathetic to Sisters Heal. A little step along the BBC's long road to recovery, perhaps.

women shouldn’t have to say why they want a women only space. They shouldn’t have to be highlighting their trauma at the hands of men as a reason to speak freely without men. However, it does rather highlight the misogyny of terf watch when they bleet on about it not being necessary blah blah

quite a good article for shining the light on that.

Yes, a lot of unpeaked people reading that article will think 'wtf???'.

peacefulpeach · 25/02/2026 16:34

‘Terf Watch Brighton said the line drawn for the need for "single-sex services" was "arbitrary, unevidenced, and based on prejudiced myths about how gender operates in society". ‘

Horrifying. Women (and Jewish people) are not welcome in accepting open Brighton, it seems. Gone are the days of Brighton being a welcoming and free space. Guess the high population of men took over.

Mmmnotsure · 25/02/2026 16:48

There’s that infuriating reference again to the row that has broken out “on both sides“. No women’s groups are putting pressure on places to not allow men who identify as women to hold their own events.

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 25/02/2026 16:55

Men want to set rules for women and deny them any humanity or autonomy to set boundaries that said men find inconvenient. The men insisting women can't have/shouldn't have and don't need rights are the men the legal rights are there to protect the women from.

Crack on lads. Go for it. You prove women's case more and more by the day.

WarrenTofficier · 25/02/2026 16:56

Is that the service set up my IamSarah following her fight to get single sex rape counciling in Brighton?

BiologicalRobot · 25/02/2026 16:58

Terf Watch Brighton, which describes itself as a grassroots collective of journalists

Identifying as journalists? Is that the new noun for wankers?

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 25/02/2026 16:59

Phillipson et al also please notice - these men are hunting for and stamping out any women-only service anywhere, appearing for any reason. Not a service they need or want, this is sheer outrage at women daring to have it at all.

These men and their activists are not rational, not reasonable and not competent, and the law needs to get involved now.

TheRozzers · 25/02/2026 17:15

Is it fair to decribe a bunch of bullies harassing women who are doing absolutely nothing wrong as a ‘row’? Sisters Heal aren’t the ones being aggressive or causing a ruckus

puffyisgood · 25/02/2026 17:18

Honestly, there are occasions on which women get together to talk about the ire that they feel when men cosplay as women. This website provides an online version of it.

But a group like the one in this article is so obviously one where women get together to talk about the trauma they've suffered following violent assault at the hands of men. No more, no less. So allowing men would be antithetical to the purpose of the group. This is blindingly obvious.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 25/02/2026 17:19

"Terf Watch Brighton called the need for single sex services a myth."

If the need is make believe, why do they have to go to such great lengths to shut down anyone who try's to say otherwise? Make it make sense fuckwits.

I see parallels between Brighton and Seattle in the USA, that's a city that is practically a lawless 'do whatever we tell you zone'. Ever the copycatist.

MyAmpleSheep · 25/02/2026 17:23

The silver lining appears to be that the TRAs appear to agree what "single-sex services" means. At least the BBC didn't frame them as saying TiM's should be admitted to single (female) sex services because they are female.

FranticFrankie · 25/02/2026 17:27

Who's behind terf watch? (Daft name)
Good response from Rosie 👍👍

Toseland · 25/02/2026 17:28

Hmm, I'd like to see a "Terf -Terf Watch Brighton- Watch" formed! See how they like it.

Agree. After so many years of the BBC refusing to report on anything other than drag-queens-in-everything this is amazing. Come on general public, look how evil these TRA groups are.

We should have written to every women's group in the country to forewarn them of these vindictive people.

No it isn’t WarrenT. That has been approved and funded but for mysterious reasons the organisers won’t set it up. This is a separate single sex group set up because none was available. There’s a Mumsnet thread on it somewhere (sorry not good at linking)

I know Rape Crisis Sussex haven't set up the provision they promised but I'm sure Sarah was separately involved in setting up a service for women (just women) offering retreats etc.

I think this is correct, yes. I remember the name from the previous posts by @iamsarah
