The Bluestocking Women’s Pub: Where Clever Women Sit and Think, While Gerbils Run the Bar.

Come in. Yes, you’re in the right place. No, you don’t need to explain yourself.

Coats will be drycleaned before you depart. Bags won't be stolen because Gubbins will play her triangle. And you really don't want to hear it.

The gerbils run the bar.
They are small, brisk, and unionised.
One is polishing a glass with unnecessary seriousness.
Another is keeping the tab and will remember what you ordered last time.
There is a triangle involved. No one knows why. It keeps Gubbins happy.

Sit. Think. Drink. Join in.

The gerbils have it from here.

Thanks Marie.
I got really riled when Tiny Twallock said I was a man! Bloody cheek.

Mr Fuzzy is feeling much better now, thank you. In fact he has just gone to the supermarket ( he is a great shopper) and left me at home with my beady eye on the weather and the washing.

Which of course leaves time for the fine sport of Twallock Baiting!

Hedgehogforshort · 19/02/2026 11:45

@MarieDeGournay and @FuzzyPuffling grand contributions over there.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/02/2026 12:30

Oooh - I shall have to go and find the Twallock-baiting and see if I can contribute anything!

@MarieDeGournay - you are right about making changes preemptively - that is very good advice. My hip is better today - I didn’t do the exercise that I think aggravated it yesterday or this morning, and I think that is making a difference.

I am getting my wheelchair next Monday - this is much quicker than I was expecting, but it will mean I can get dh to take me to craft stores - I can go yarn shopping in person!!

Britinme · 19/02/2026 12:30

Please could somebody link me to that thread? I haven’t come across that one.

DeanElderberry · 19/02/2026 12:39

The bolloxology is strong in that one.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/02/2026 12:52

It's called " What's the deal guys?"
Tiny Twallock doesn't turn up until a few pages in.

EmpressaurusKitty · 19/02/2026 13:44

Oh, is that the latest in the rota from trans Reddit?

DeanElderberry · 19/02/2026 13:46

EmpressaurusKitty · 19/02/2026 13:44

Oh, is that the latest in the rota from trans Reddit?

It looks like a rota to me, with one username being used by (at least) two posters. There are several other supporting team members.

EdithStourton · 19/02/2026 14:04

EmpressaurusKitty · 19/02/2026 13:44

Oh, is that the latest in the rota from trans Reddit?

There's something going on, isn't there?
At fairly regular intervals someone turns up asking faux-naive questions of all the 'cis women' about why we 'hate trans ppl/ deny their existance/ are so horrid and rightwing' (complete with txt spk and typos).
My impression, totally unsupported by any stats, is that there are more of them in the uni vacations and school holidays.

And we sad old dinosaurs have to wheel out the same bloody arguments every sodding time. Perhaps we should develop a thread of posts which explain that 1. 1. We don't hate trans ppl.

  1. We don't deny that they exist.
  2. Many of us are left/centre
  3. None of us is in the pay of swivel-eyed evangelicals, the Far Right etc etc
  4. Our objections rest entirely on biological reality, relative male physical strength and speed, and the threat that men as a sex class pose to women as a sex class (with 50 or worked examples for the hard-of-thinking).
  5. Oh, and we don't like having to lie to support someone's delusion about what sex they are.

Then we could just link it and save ourselves a bucket of time. Unless, of course, we have lots of time to spare and are happy to spend a day or two twallock-baiting.

MarieDeGournay · 19/02/2026 14:27

Twallock-baiting 'r' us😃

Glad to hear Mr Fuzzy is better and shopping.
And Woley, the peanut M&Ms and the peanut-flavoured M&M cocktails seem to have been therapeutic, that's goodSmile

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/02/2026 16:45

Can I just say - bloody, bloody knitting. I keep making mistakes - onviously this is the Knittings fault. not mine, but I just want to throw it on the floor like a toddler having a tantrum. I have restrained myself, and have merely put it on the side, on the knitting version of the naughty step. I will go back to it when it has had some time to think about its misdeeds, and to change its attitude going forward.

All this, and no peanut M&Ms today.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 19/02/2026 17:19

The Bluestocking is such an education. I've learned a new word and a new phrase today: bolloxology and twallock-baiting 😁

Now thinking of irl conversations where they could be casually slipped in 🤔

Hedgehogforshort · 19/02/2026 17:26

Slipping in a random word can be such fun.

i once had a service user say she had a pet “enufiated” (put down)

I used it at a meeting of people who were considered very important, I said i was enufiated by the subject and could we move on.

I did it frequently and nobody ever said a word.

midgetastic · 19/02/2026 17:28

Oh yes it’s half term ! That makes more sense

of course it leaves a nagging worry that it’s teachers not kids. After the news of the last few weeks that’s more believable than ever

midgetastic · 19/02/2026 17:29

Is can be quite a giggle engaging though

FuzzyPuffling · 19/02/2026 18:00

Twallock: I'm a ikkle girly
700 reasonable women: No you're not
Twallock: But you all hate me and my tiny feet.

Twas ever thus.

Another great word @Hedgehogforshort "Enufiated" I like that!

Perhaps grades should be awarded for bolloxology, as with GCSEs. The TRAs all seem to have a very patronising way with words and it would be good to reply to a particularly irritating one with " Congratulations! You have attained Level 9 in Bolloxology!" Grin

AsWithGlad · 19/02/2026 18:36

I’m interesting joining the Women’s Rights Network, but I’d need a reference from an existing member.

Could anyone who is a member feel able to speak for me? AsWithGlad posts only here, but I’m happy to share by PM the name I use on the FWR boards.

I don’t have anyone off Mumsnet to talk to about these things. Hurray for MN!

MarieDeGournay · 19/02/2026 19:40

Well, fellow Stockingers, I've been pulled up by MNHQ for being nasty to the TT - are we allowed say anything about being challenged I wonder?

I know we are not allowed to repeat a deleted post, but I think I should be able to say that I was pulled up for my 'deserted railway station' imagery.

I should remember that other posters are human and have feelings.. etc.

I was very taken aback. I completely respect the role of moderators, but I really didn't think I deserved to be pulled up for that post. I replied to that effect.

It was pointed out to me that if I used that tone again, a permanent ban is a possibility. That kind of threat is very upsetting to humans like me who have feelings etc...

This all feels a bit unreal - earlier on in the thread in question I had actually been sympathetic to the OP who said at one point they were 'scared', and the station metaphor was directed at the second 'visitor'.

So if I disappear from the Bluey, you'll know what has happened😟
I hope this post stands, as we get concerned if a 'regular' suddenly isn't around, so I'd like you to know about my situation in case that happens to me.💙

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/02/2026 19:44

Bloody hell, @MarieDeGournay - that is appalling!

MarieDeGournay · 19/02/2026 19:48

Thanks Woley, as I said I respect that moderators have an important job to do, and they have their own take on my station metaphor, but when you get to the end of the message and there's talk of suspension and permanent bans, it gets quite upsetting.

I'm going to have my tea now, so hopefully they'll let me back on MN after I've finished eating😒

AsWithGlad · 19/02/2026 19:52

Sympathy, @MarieDeGournay . I’ll read the thread now.

As to my request for a WRN member, a kind person sent me a message and encouraged me to try to submit the form again. It worked at my last attempt*, so I hope I can proceed without a referee.

*I appreciate that this is just like finding lost things in the last place you look, because once you submit the form/ find the thing you stop trying.

SionnachRuadh · 19/02/2026 19:53

I'm sorry about that Marie, and I definitely feel the pressure to step away from threads that become too heated, for the sake of my own blood pressure as well as the difficult job the mods have to do.

There was a particular thread, quite a while ago, where someone was evidently gaming the reporting system, and I was already extremely angry before getting a warning from the mods, and that put me off having anything to say on that specific topic - which was probably the point, but hey ho...

I'd be very sad if you weren't around. Your positivity brightens my day, and I often learn something from you that I didn't know.
