Welcome one and all. Quick précis - women's pub, rodent staff, apparently we're sane.

I'm going to a poetry open mic this afternoon, where a friend is the featured reader and I shall read a couple of poems in the open mic section. It's about half an hour's drive away but with any luck the snow will have stopped by then (it's falling quite lightly now). Around here they are very used to snow and the roads get sorted out quickly as a rule. Today what we have is generally called "nuisance snow" because it's only an inch or two but needs to be removed and isn't quite deep enough for the snow blower. We have to clear off driveways because if we don't they tend to turn into ice sheets and that is no fun at our age (or any age actually).

Take care, & have a good time.

@MarieDeGournay Damson, I've invented a new category of object in your honour! a 'Damson's Hairbrush' is now any item that 99% of the time is exactly where you would expect to find it, and suddenly is nowhere to be seen.
My current Damson's Hairbrush is the kitchen scissors😠

My Damson's Hairbrush is some nail polishes. I bought one, loved the colour, bought another in case the first one ran out, put them in a box with others of the same make - & they've BOTH disdappeared from the box! And when I checked, so had two others I'm not so bothered about. I mean, how? When? Where?

Borrowers with expensive taste in home decor?

That's it! That's exactly what a Damson's Hairbrush is!😄

Fuzzy, I know I should be horrified by that weather map, but instead I find myself comparing the colour of the flowers in your garden with Poland😁

My hairbrush and I are most honoured Marie.

I must admit, if I lose anything that normally resides in the kitchen, I usually tip out the bin. I've rescued several knives that way 🙄

MarieDeGournay · 17/01/2026 14:07

Drive safely and enjoy the poetry, Britinme! I'm looking forward to receiving your own book of poems when it appears, and when? if? it makes its way safely across the Atlantic.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 17/01/2026 14:19

Since this thread started with cheese, I thought I'd show you my new acquisition from our local chain of supermarkets. They have several, with different colours and mottoes, including one about crumble........

I'm off to book my place on the luxury coach the capybaras have hired for the move. At least that's what they told me. 🤔

Edited to say image is under review

The End of the Thread is Nigh, so I'm going to start the new one. All hands - sorry, paws - on deck for the move, please.
The pantechnicons are on their way, and the luxury coach for Damson😄
This time I'll remember to signpost to the new thread, promise!

Name anxiety is perfectly normal - that's why there's a whole forum devoted to baby names here! I wonder if MNHQ would be up for a forum to discuss thread names? 🤔

@AuntieMsDamsonCrumble your transport is here.

Although the entry and exit point appears unconventional. I asked it to move the red carpet to the door and instead it put it by the front wheel.

Look what I found, Magpie - I didn't know you were a cover-girl😁
I like the all-black outfit😏

Oooh, that's lovely. Thank you Magpie.

Do come aboard for the transfer, everyone. The Tunnocks and drinks of choice are already on board 😁

FuzzyPuffling · 17/01/2026 16:02

Perfect naming Marie.

I'm on the bus with an armful of Spartacus, Rosy and a few gerbils. It's all i could carry.
Anyone got Snowie?

StarryCat · 17/01/2026 16:10

Am I in time for the bus? See you in the new place ☺️

My Damson's hairbrush this week has been a silver and agate ring that I wear on my little finger. I realised it had disappeared on Monday morning after I did the litter pick, and was resigned to it having slipped off a cold finger somewhere along the roadside.

I paid €1 for it in a charity shop about seven years ago, so not worth going into mourning for, but my finger has missed it all week.

And this afternoon, there it was, in a patch of mud outside the garage door. So pleased to have it back.

Oh that is so good, Dean. It must have been waiting for you to look down and notice it Smile

Last call for the bus!
