Welcome one and all. Quick précis - women's pub, rodent staff, apparently we're sane.

Magnums on me, I scooped a £500 premium bond prize, I’ve been waiting for a celebration and this deserves it!

Fabulous!
I have to go out this evening, but when I get back, I'm getting wasted.

It's been a helluva week Chez Stourton for various reasons, and it ain't over yet, but I'm very happy to celebrate Darlington and settle down to have a look at the judgement and the thread.

Clearly creating accurate images of triangles (the musical instrument) is another of those AI shibboleths. It really can't seem to do it! I'm off to pick a fight with Gemini.

Seven pictures, all wrong. I even got it to find a picture of an actual triangle online. It agreed that the triangle needs to be open on one corner otherwise it won't resonate properly. Finally I asked it to try with a magpie instead of a gerbil, thinking that might help it break out of the loop, and got this:

"I apologize, but I cannot fulfill that request. My purpose is to provide helpful and harmless content, and that includes respecting user feedback and ensuring accuracy. Unfortunately, despite repeated attempts, I am still generating triangles that are not open on one corner, which indicates a persistent limitation in my ability to accurately render this specific detail.
To avoid further frustration and to ensure I don't provide misleading imagery, I need to acknowledge this limitation."

But how encouraging to see the AI acknowledging its limitation and giving magpies the win!

You're not wrong, Brit!

Gubbins looks like she is playing her triangle with a cotton bud. Has somebody substituted it in the name of peace and quiet?

Shhhh. Don't tell her, she hasn't noticed.

I tried this with ChatGPT. It also couldn't create a proper image of a triangle. I asked why and it gave me a reasonable explanation:

"I cannot reliably or deterministically produce a functionally correct percussive triangle on demand. I cannot verify the result visually in the way you can. And I cannot lock in the requirement “open gap at one corner” as a hard physical constraint in the image system. For practical purposes, you should treat it as unreliable to the point of “no.”"

So I then gave it this prompt:
Depict a metal/steel rod bent with a curve in two places equidistant from each end to show the ends close together but not meeting.

And it produced this image of a triangle and this image of Gubbins holding it - which will stop it vibrating.
When I asked it to show Gubbins holding it with a ribbon and striking it with a stick, it closed the triangle again.

What the fuck has it done with Gubbins paw??

I always feel particular affection for Gubbins because my mother, at a very music-focussed boarding school, was also given the triangle as her instrument, and I suspect that she looked very like that version, hair, uniform, determined expression and all. Only real difference is that Ma didn't have a tail.

Though darling Gubbins does look a bit - cat-faced. Some of my best friends are cat-faced, but maybe it isn't the best look for a rodent.

Hedgehogforshort · 16/01/2026 19:17

I am reading the judgement word by word it is stunning.

the section on the Jo Pheonix report is brilliant it sets out precisely why women are bothered about the risk men may or may not pose towards them, and that it matters none if they have experienced direct abuse themselves. It is a fantastic judgement.

That you know of!

It's Gubbins dishevelled fur that makes her look like a cat. Fresh out of the shower and well brushed she looks more gerbil!

Like a breath of fresh air after Kemp's binfire of a judgement.

I'm a bit annoyed that Rose gets given the benefit of the doubt on everything, but at least the judge didn't then also denigrate the claimants in the same breath.

ChatGPT was eloquent on the reasons why Gubbins is not exactly the best at triangle playing.

Gubbins has excellent intent, sound technique in theory, and absolutely no sense of timing. She knows what the triangle is, she knows why the gap matters, she’s even muting correctly… and then she whacks it half a beat early, twice as hard as necessary, with the confidence of someone who has never once listened to anyone else.

Classic enthusiastic amateur energy.

In her defence:
She’s holding it by the ribbon ✔️
She’s damping with her paw ✔️
She’s using a proper beater ✔️

In her prosecution:
Dynamics: nonexistent
Rhythm: aspirational
Musical restraint: missing, presumed eaten

The Bluestocking crowd will applaud anyway. Someone has to carry the joy, even if they drop it down the stairs on the way. 🍾🔔

Hedgehogforshort · 16/01/2026 19:29

@Boiledbeetle i think it was tactically a good idea not to roast Rose personage, because it kept the judgement pin focussed on the mere presence of a male, and away from the concept of a well behaved TIM, being acceptable.

Sounds about right. Gubbins is 90% enthusiasm 10% musical ability.

Very pleased for Errol on your PB win and Beetle on your inheritance. What a good day this has been.😀

I sadly had to decline a Tunnocks as I'm still low carb (sigh)

I don't know! I bought you a whole box of your favourites and you're just giving away Tunnock's.

Just listening to neighbours toddler refusing to go to bed. He is very very VERY resistant to the idea. I think he's just about cried himself to the gulping for air stage.

The other great news of the day (for me at least). I have found my hairbrush!
Discovered nestling in the bag of woollies that has been sitting by the front door for several days waiting to go to the charity shop 🙄

Just as well I always check, to see if there is anything I want to "save" at the last minute - not being as resolute as @Boiledbeetle

That is why I take photos of what is going. The temptation to remove things from the pile is too great otherwise! At least if it's photographed and counted I can't back track.

Well, I could, but that would mean I'd broken my resolution.

And YAY on the hairbrush front
