Welcome one and all. Quick précis - women's pub, rodent staff, apparently we're sane.

I joyfully checked my premium bonds after Boiley’s prompt and have won nothing. Sigh and bastards!

In my fridge I have mature cheddar and blue Stilton. I really like the cheese van delivery. I can have more now.

Did someone say cheese?

SionnachRuadh · 06/01/2026 20:43

Just thinking of odd Catholic names, Martin McGuinness's middle name was Pacelli, being the family name of Pope Pius XII. It's not at all unusual for boys to be named after the incumbent pope, but I don't know any other cases of someone being named after the incumbent pope's family name.

Of course I do not claim knowledge of whatever strange heathen customs they have up in Derry.

Ooo, lovely cheese.

I am trying to repopulate my gut with good bacteria after flu. My fridge has been providing me with Roquefort and Cashel Blue, and there's Stilton in waiting, but I'm sure the Bluestocking will have a range of other delicious cultures.

The kings arrived in the crib this morning with two camels and one elephant. They'll be there until Candlemas.

Swap a marmite cheddar for some Roquefort?

Pleeeease!

The gerbils over ordered, we currently have more cheese than you can dream of.

SionnachRuadh · 06/01/2026 20:58

I'm supposed to be keeping my dairy consumption to a minimum, but if there's such a thing as Bluestocking Stilton I'll have a wee bit.

Is this about my extra claw again? I'll have you know, Android did a bang-up job with that. And I hardly ever get an urge to gorge myself on quadrotriticale and produce thousands of offspring!

Don't let the gerbils know or they'll be tinselling the hell out of the place again. I've only just got the last lot out from where it got stuck in my carpace when I was drunkingly slow dancing with a Christmas tree.

Apparently, you're supposed to throw straw around the house during Christmas Eve - I think to remind you of the stable?

Dad was Orthodox. Mum did not let him throw straw around the house. I think I'm supposed to go find an oak branch and burn it in the yard, but I only see sycamores round here and it's too bloody cold to go out.

Unfortunately, I forgot this morning when I had my cornflakes.

Owing to Boily's good news I checked my premium bonds.

I won £25!!!

I'm thinking a yacht, paying off the mortgage and buying a villa in Tenerife. Obviously a donation to the Bluestocking charity to support impoverished gerbils and treating friends and family. What shall I do with the rest?

waves

I also got 25. I think that someone is plotting to stop us from getting the big wins.

mutters darkly

Luckily Greta had a spare branch in the yard for you to burn.

ETA I feel guilty about the AI depiction of your user name!

Is this the one that Galbana made? What did she use for a culture?

Oh, dear, @FuzzyPuffling. I’m in the blizzard bit. The local BBC News less than three hours ago didn’t predict that.

Fingers crossed for safe travel for any Bluestockingers who need to leave home on Thursday. I’m not sure how we’ll get to The Bluestocking, but I’m sure there are efficient plans.

FuzzyPuffling · 06/01/2026 21:31

I'm hunkering down in Puffin Burrow. The special one in the corner of the Bluestocking.

I have cheese.

Something that's been handed down through twenty generations is all I get out of her.
