Welcome one and all. Quick précis - women's pub, rodent staff, apparently we're sane.

Skimmed the judgment. It's very good. Wrong in saying Rose didn't personally harass the nurses but it did say transgender people do not have a right to be in the facilities of the opposite sex.

One of my lecturers was a little girl during the siege of Leningrad. She told us that when the thaw came, she had to help dispose of the bodies to prevent plague.

I don’t think that that is what caused the problem with the drinking water, but…

And yet that little girl who lived through such horrors had the resilience to get through it and make an OK life for herself.❤

I’ve got a terfy night out tonight, so we’ll be drinking a toast to those brave women 😀.

Any champagne left, @Boiledbeetle?

Magnums on me, I scooped a £500 premium bond prize, I’ve been waiting for a celebration and this deserves it!

It does mean however they behave, they're still now allowed in

What I read (on bbc not the judgment itself) it sounded as though the judge believed ‘Rose’ had not had the insight to realise the negative effects on the women. Which given management policy and no doubt #bekind colleagues may possibly be true

The knitting group friend I mentioned earlier, @WearyAuldWumman , confirms what you (we) have said. She was in the Soviet Union in between the times you and I were there.

I was lucky enough to catch the Darlington nurses’ press conference live and thought they were very dignified, pleased by but not overreacting to the judgement. The speaker was clear that they blamed the Trust for the policy and not Rose who followed that policy by using the female changing room.

I saw them on Sky too, excellent. Confident, relaxed, and very diplomatic.

I loved that they were so pleasant about Rose - while using he/him throughout😄

The extracts from the judgement posted on the main Darlington thread look amazingly wonderfully outstandingly brilliantly clear on 'sex' meaning biological sex in all contexts.
The judge is obviously The Anti-Kemp!

MyrtleLion · 16/01/2026 14:44

The gebils are very excited at the win. Some nurses have joined in. Maybe not from Darlington but their rights to single sex changing rooms should be secure.

A good day. And fascinating Russian reminiscences,

Texas, September 1989, the day the Soviet dream died for Boris Yeltsin

Yes! That was meant to say "not"

I love that picture @MyrtleLion .

Gubbins will be bashing her triangle in a symphony of support and happiness..

Swashbuckled · 16/01/2026 15:30

I’m loving the first hand Soviet Union accounts. I used to be fascinated by the Eastern Bloc and, up until fairly recently, read everything I could that was written by people who lived or stayed there.

She did. She was either the Head or Assistant Head* of the Department Russian Language for Foreigners at Leningrad Uni.

She was one of those Russian women who always looked effortlessly glamorous - in spite of the fact that you could get nowt in the shops.

One of the older ladies in the department had medals for heroism - she had been a nurse on the front line.

*Think it was the former, but can't quite remember.

Thank you! It is one of my favourite ChatGPT images. They look so excited and happy for us.

Gubbins was actually drinking champagne but on hearing your comment she dashed to the instrument cupboard and brought out her triangle.

I think we have to forgive her, though, because she's just so bloody happy.

Young Gubbins can celebrate with fizzy apple juice.

lcakethereforeIam · 16/01/2026 16:09

Some of those gerbils are going to stick to that table.

FuzzyPuffling · 16/01/2026 16:15

Gubbins looks like she is playing her triangle with a cotton bud. Has somebody substituted it in the name of peace and quiet?

MarieDeGournay · 16/01/2026 16:22

Lovely - I've never seen the gerbils so happy😄

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 16/01/2026 16:22

The other great news of the day (for me at least). I have found my hairbrush!
Discovered nestling in the bag of woollies that has been sitting by the front door for several days waiting to go to the charity shop 🙄

Just as well I always check, to see if there is anything I want to "save" at the last minute - not being as resolute as @Boiledbeetle

lcakethereforeIam · 16/01/2026 16:28

And I thought this day couldn't get any better! 😃

Taztoy · 16/01/2026 16:33

What a great day!!!

It is isn't it Taz? Have you read the extracts from the judgement over on the main thread? They are really ..I think the word is 'uplifting', because it's a judge, a male judge, an established and well-respected judge, saying the kind of things we've been saying here for years.
Great to have something to feel positive about todaySmile

Britinme · 16/01/2026 17:05

Hooray for positive days!

Magpiecomplex · 16/01/2026 17:25

Clearly creating accurate images of triangles (the musical instrument) is another of those AI shibboleths. It really can't seem to do it! I'm off to pick a fight with Gemini.
