Welcome one and all. Quick précis - women's pub, rodent staff, apparently we're sane.

That can't be safe 😳

I was sort of expecting the gerbil to be inside the cab, but I'm sure there's a reason.

Bloody hell, that Fendt combine!
Our local farmers mostly go for Claas or John Deere. Fendt's have a rep in these parts for exploding gearboxes.

Our local Valtra has been out ditching with its friend, the JCB digger.

My kind of trade show. I know a shocking number of men who dress like the ones in the photos.

I did briefly consider trying to twoc the Fendt combine, but it would have taken me a while to drive it home, and the police might have caught me during that time.

Yeah, that gerbil isn’t driving the tractor. We can’t see who is so it’s probably a well-coordinated team of nomes.

👏

Unfortunately, as anyone who's been to the average trade show can attest, I have not been eating healthily today.

But you got your steps in no doubt so swings and roundabouts!

The sheer amount of energy it takes to organise and run a big student trip always shocks me. Can't relax for a second!

I really hope none of our farmers around here buys that massive grey thing. It wouldn't fit under the Achnacloich railway bridge or over Connel bridge and it would scare the tourists on the single track roads (that might be quite amusing though).

Magpiecomplex · 15/01/2026 21:49

I'm reliably informed that scaring and/or pissing off other road users is part of the fun.

😂😂
Or it would have exploded.

I concur about supervising school trips. I was never in charge, but I was forever counting, re-counting, making sure Ollie didn't get himself soaked by the nearest available water, that Emily hadn't fallen over, and wondering why the fuckety fuck they hadn't, as instructed, brought stout shoes and warm coats.

'Miss, I'm really COLD!'
'Miss, my feet hurt!'
'Miss, I forgot my pen!'

And taking under-11s swimming. Special circle of hell.

Ha, I bet :). Tbf we don't really do arable crops here. I doubt you need something like this for cattle on pasture.

Magpiecomplex · 15/01/2026 21:52

Mine kept complaining they were too hot. Because they had a shirt, covered by a hoodie, with a fleece gilet on top. But they couldn't remove a layer because then they wouldn't look like everyone else 😂

I don't mind farm machinery. They know the rules, I know the rules. I get out of their way, or I follow at a sensible distance and they'll pull over if they can and it's going to be a long one otherwise.

But minibuses full of sixth formers driven by frazzled teachers unfamiliar with rural roads, or big tourist estate cars or 4x4s with top boxes... 'Slow DOWN! Slow DOWN! If you slow down we can squeeze past each there where the lane is nice and wide... Oh, you haven't slowed down, you are now face to face me with our wing-mirrors touching the hedges, and one of us is going to have to reverse, and it isn't going to be you, is it? Even though the wide part of the lane begins a car length behind you and I am now in reverse and going backwards for fifty yards to the nearest passing place...

Tattersall shirt?
Or a t-shirt with 'Farm Eat Sleep Repeat' on the front?

Tattersall shirt. And a Grassmen hoodie. And a Schoffel gilet.

Gaynor is delighted with her new haircut. Although she's slightly worried it might be a bit aging.

I think it looks like a barrister’s wig, or maybe a judge’s. What a clever Gaynor!

lcakethereforeIam · 15/01/2026 22:15

Goth turned up with this. I don't know if it's quite her style but I quite like it

Or students dressed up in their best, in an attempt to look like they belong.
I was semi-conformist myself, wearing jeans and my work boots, but my boots are comfy, waterproof and sensible! Peri means I start overheating if I so much as look at a hoodie or gilet.

I don’t understand any of that. I must have been out of school for too long.

The only Tattersall I’ve heard of is a horse racing auction place in Newmarket, and a large venue for weddings there.

Ah, I’ve looked it up. It’s a style of shirt, such as you might expect county/country/ horse racing men to wear last century. And my dad, who was none of those things. I’m thinking of De Vere in To the Manor Born, and Rocky (Geoffrey Palmer’s dad) in A Fine Romance .

It's very odd watching these teenagers actively choosing to wear shirts that my grandfather would have liked, and my 70-something father would reject as being for old men.

Well done. My family down in the south east of England haven't been able to shower since last Friday due to water company being incapable of providing water.

RandomHypatia · 15/01/2026 22:36

It's typically a right wing area very in favour of privatisation of utilities etc, so I wonder if the Tory MP will get their usual landslide result next time or if attitudes might shift

CheesemongersApprentice · 15/01/2026 22:37

Just going to leave this one here. Oh, and by the way, if we are talking sensible country fabrics, can I just say Moleskin?

A friend of ours comes to parties in what is basically a Tattersall shirt, but in brighter colours. It's his idea of scrubbing up.
