Welcome one and all. Quick précis - women's pub, rodent staff, apparently we're sane.

Mmmmmm thank you. Haven't had a Tunnock's in ages.

At least 30 seconds?

Oh, dear, @FuzzyPuffling. I’m in the blizzard bit. The local BBC News less than three hours ago didn’t predict that.

Fingers crossed for safe travel for any Bluestockingers who need to leave home on Thursday. I’m not sure how we’ll get to The Bluestocking, but I’m sure there are efficient plans.

Edited

The trick is to get snowed in at the Bluestocking. So we just stay here and don't go home!

Something that's been handed down through twenty generations is all I get out of her.

Phew! I was worried that that was Android's experiment. 😬

FuzzyPuffling · 06/01/2026 21:38

Twenty gerbil generations is roughly a week.

<shocked face>

How very dare you!

I'll have you know I resemble that remark!

I am in the zone but bbc weather is saying rain ???????

I read relatively recently that the BBC forecasts aren’t very accurate when compared with other free ones. I can’t remember what the best one was. I tend to look at the BBC and the Met Office, and think it will be somewhere between the two.

I prefer to believe the BBC over VeryWeather this time, though.

Too long?

Beetles need their insulation at this time of year. Or is that just badgers?

Hello. Can I come & join you? I’ve brought a batch of my homemade sourdough rolls that go really well with cheese.

EmpressaurusKitty · 06/01/2026 21:50

Hello! It’s bloody freezing out there.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 06/01/2026 21:51

If the weather gets really bad, we can always use the tunnels the gerbils have been digging to get to the Bluestocking. They've been burrowing away for ages, ever since they saw a re-run of The Great Escape. There are three main tunnels, with offshoots to the most remote parts. Unfortunately, one of the offshoots went completely awry and they had to make a U-turn at Monchengladbach.

Where are the gerbils escaping from?

RandomHypatia · 06/01/2026 21:57

The three kings brought my husband and I a new board game. Unfortunately we're both shattered with work and school restarting this week so going to bed early instead of playing tonight.

If the new venue is fully up and running already please can the bar gerbils bring a strong and chocolatey cocktail? I made the mistake of looking through the news headlines in my lunch break and feeling a bit depressed about the world this evening (plus tail end of PMS and start of cramps and backache today). My son asked me why I'm grumpy and not smiling today at bedtime so I'm also feeling guilty.

The cheese store.....

RandomHypatia · 06/01/2026 22:00

Yay, just opened Amazon parcel before heading to bed and first lot of Rhodia notebooks have arrived. Feelings of guilt and misery forgotten and I can draw patterns in my lunch break tomorrow instead of staring at my phone

The cheese store.....

Oh I see, of course.

Did someone say chocolatey cocktails?

RandomHypatia · 06/01/2026 22:02

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 06/01/2026 21:58

The cheese store.....

Given the volumes of cheese I've seen, is it time for the Bluey to gain a cheese cave? Not too big, just a bit bigger than the ones in cheddar gorge.

EdithStourton · 06/01/2026 22:07

Belated thanks for the thread, Magpie.

I'd like a quiet cosy corner with a lot of cheese, a large glass of red and some of Kitty's rolls.

DH's somewhat dysfunctional extended family is going through a phase at the moment. I need a sit down.

All I'm going to say is that they'd give Eastenders a run for their money.

Just in time to get snowed in.

Ooh still warm homemade rolls...gorgeous!

I've never trusted the BBC weather since 1987 and Michael Fish

"Earlier on today, apparently, a woman rang the BBC and said she heard there was a hurricane on the way. Well, if you're watching, don't worry, there isn't!"

Maud has her own tunnel from my back bedroom to the Bluestocking staff room. I may use it if I end up at the wrong end when the snow in happens.
