Welcome one and all. Quick précis - women's pub, rodent staff, apparently we're sane.

Yay, just opened Amazon parcel before heading to bed and first lot of Rhodia notebooks have arrived. Feelings of guilt and misery forgotten and I can draw patterns in my lunch break tomorrow instead of staring at my phone

They are wonderful aren't they!

If the weather gets really bad, we can always use the tunnels the gerbils have been digging to get to the Bluestocking. They've been burrowing away for ages, ever since they saw a re-run of The Great Escape. There are three main tunnels, with offshoots to the most remote parts. Unfortunately, one of the offshoots went completely awry and they had to make a U-turn at Monchengladbach.

Let me guess, are the tunnels called Glennis, Glynis and Gwennis?

The gerbils have already started exploring.

Are those cheezactites?

Oh I see, of course.

Did someone say chocolatey cocktails?

Whatever you desire the gerbils will deliver. Although sometimes it takes them a while, they are easily distracted by just about anything, but still amazingly good at everything they do. They truly are a marvel.

Just keep an eye on Glenda when the gin bottle is around, she has been known to have a shot or two. For medicinal purposes obviously!

Yummy rolls - you know how to make yourself instantly popular EmpressaurusKitty Wink
You can have any food or drink you fancy here at the Bluestocking, all of it delicious and none of it containing anything ...difficult, like alcohol, calories, etc etc., but magically you can't tell.

The gerbils are escaping because they recently saw The Great Escape. They're not escaping from anything, they just thought that escaping looked fun.
They're like that - suggestible. We're keeping them well away from the Bergmans....Grin

Hmm... 'Tis the season to eat cheese. Not lots of cheese but lots of cheeses. Cheese with bread, cheese with crackers, cheese with raw or pickled onions. With chutney or pickles. Maybe cheese with grapes, apples or olives. Definitely cheese on toast.
But CHEESE.

And I am sure that the poster who's Mum is Jane will agree.

Oh, dear, @FuzzyPuffling. I’m in the blizzard bit. The local BBC News less than three hours ago didn’t predict that.

Fingers crossed for safe travel for any Bluestockingers who need to leave home on Thursday. I’m not sure how we’ll get to The Bluestocking, but I’m sure there are efficient plans.

Edited

Commiserations to anyone in the bizzardy bit - don't forget to charge your phone, and your power bank if you have one - a good idea to have one.
During one of the previous named storms, some areas had no power for a long time, so couldn't charge their phones, so were unable to contact the outside world at all.

We've gone backwards in terms of resilience - landlines have their own power supply.

I remember last winter people in Scotland gave funny names to the gritting lorries - Sir Salter Scott, Spready Mercury, Gritna Green, Skate Bush etc😂

@Magpiecomplex , I’ve just seen the comment you made in our previous premises about Skyr. I eat it with flaked almonds on top. It adds valuable texture, and protein.

One can never have too much cheese.

Unless it's melted into a sauce and poured on macaroni or cauliflower, then it's the work of the devil.

I really hope my power isn't out tomorrow. Disney+ updates at 8 am and the new Tron film is on there tomorrow!

But the weather in deepest darkest Peru isn't forecast blizzards or snow so I should be OK.

I make a delicious Stilton and onion puff pastry pie.

the onions are caramelised.

my son in law loved it even though he hates cheese.

he is Portuguese so did not know Stilton is cheese, but now he does and piss taking is the order of the day.

sigh I used to love cauliflower cheese, but the cauliflower no longer agrees with me.

A mix of cauliflower and other veg and/or pasta might fit the bill?

RandomHypatia · 06/01/2026 23:29

Macaroni cheese with cauliflower cheese on the side is in my top 5 favourite meals

It would have to be gluten free pasta these days. The diet that I'm following now advises avoiding all cruciferous vegetables. I might be able to come up with something.

RandomHypatia · 06/01/2026 23:30

Wow, it's really late. No more chocolate cocktails, I'm going to bed. Night all x
