Welcome one and all. Quick précis - women's pub, rodent staff, apparently we're sane.

I love the idea of cosseted breasts.

As opposed to corseted breasts.

Take care Fuzzy!
How's it going Spaniel? I expect it's going to be really wild😬Stay safe.

Evening all. Just dropping in after my choir rehearsal to see what's cookin' and I see that, whatever it is, appears to be in a slow cooker/crockpot. I use mine all the time, mainly to make soups and curries.

Also had my mind slightly boggled by the discussion around bras. As someone who is distinctly average in that department, I felt a pang of envy at first - until I read how expensive bras can be when you're not an average size so, on reflection, I'm happy sticking with my bog-standard M&S bras.

We get a fair few storms on this stretch of coast, but appear to be outside the firing line for Storm Goretti. I do hope everyone who is in the Amber or Red zones, particularly in the SW or Channel Isles, stays safe and warm over the next few days.

Stay safe, Fuzzy.

I’ve forced myself to be very busy today, and all out of the house. I think that works best for me. Frozen beach walk, where three people were surfing! Nutters. Then me and the hound went for a wander round the shops. I then braved a grocery shop for supplies. And I have just come back from the secret fishermen.

It was a frozen walk back but we made it without slipping.

Glad you're home and hopefully snug and safe from passing stormsSmile

CheesemongersApprentice · 08/01/2026 22:53

So good news and other news. SW trains kept running long enough for me to get home. No threat of extreme weather ATM. Having a shirk work from home day tomorrow. Lincolnshire Poacher Smoked will not be delivered tomorrow but there is other cheese. Aga has decided that central heating is a luxury. DH will have a look in the morning (while I remain in bed). Off to bed and will see you all in the morning.

I am hoping the dream gerbils will show up soon, this current dream is a little bit nightmarish! Maybe it was all that cheese?

Clever bedding arrangement if you want your hooves out without getting chilly shoulders though.

Also if your hot water bottle is a bit too hot at the moment.

G'night all, be safe tonight, and don't forget that at the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet, silver song of a lark.💙

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet, silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart,
And you’ll never walk alone.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 09/01/2026 01:10

Good luck to everyone, tonight & tomorrow. Here in the soft south we're only due more rain.

Hope everyone survived the weather. I have to do a supermarket run today, but prudently showered yesterday evening so minor targetted washing will be adequate this morning.

It’s your yukka which is confused about the season I guess! I suppose if it’s got heat and good light (including artificial?) that can happen.
mind you, quite a lot of outdoors plants are confused - in the next village there’s a camellia which is always a bit early but it was in full flower before Christmas this year!

In theory I should have gone to the gym before work.

In practice it looked so bloody awful outside that I started work early so I can go this afternoon instead.

Taztoy · 09/01/2026 08:47

DD’s got loads of snow where she is. 10 miles down the road.

we have slushy shite coloured crap snow.

the dog was not impressed walking in it.

Swashbuckled · 09/01/2026 08:51

Rain, sleet and strong wind here all day. I hope it melts the snow. Annoying though, as I think a beach walk will be off. How is it in the eye of the storm @FuzzyPuffling?

EdithStourton · 09/01/2026 09:05

Rain and a gale here.
Back to Mud Season.

MarieDeGournay · 09/01/2026 10:06

Hoping to hear from misscockerspaniel and Fuzzy that they got through the storm OK and were woken up by the sweet silver song of a larkSmile

I love the phrase 'minor targeted washing', Deano!
I have three grades of shower: one is a thorough one including hair-washing; the second is thorough but does not include hair-washing; and the third is 'get basically clean very quickly'

From now on I'll think of the latter as 'Operation Minor Targeting'.😄

Those fancy names the US give to the questionable escapades they get up to - the Venezuela one was called 'Operation Absolute Resolve' - were pilloried wonderfully by The Simpsons - there was an episode set in Europe during the 100 Years War 'or as the army called it, Operation Swift Resolution'😁

Why is the second T in 'targeting' not doubled in UK English???

FuzzyPuffling · 09/01/2026 10:43

Morning all. All is well here. A fair number of trees down but for once I'm glad I don't live on a tree-lined road.
I had to rescue my bins from the bin party in the back lane, which is quite an interesting task. Fortunately most are properly labelled.

My friend further west has no electricity and it won't be back til Sunday. Sadly she lives in a super modern, all electric house, so she's scuppered. Heat pump, digital comms, sewage system...all reliant on it. So much for modern life. I've offered her sanctuary!

FuzzyPuffling · 09/01/2026 10:45

My house survived a Luftwaffe attack two doors away in WW2, so I am assuming it's sturdy enough!

MarieDeGournay · 09/01/2026 10:52

Great to hear you survived it OK, FuzzySmile
Your friend's house is an example of too much tech = not enough resilience.
Though if it was solar-powered with battery storage, she'd have been OK, so I suppose it's the right blend of tech..

Boiledbeetle · 09/01/2026 11:00

Can we curtail Greeda's Internet usage? I've just seen an order for 24 of these little cuties.
