Welcome one and all. Quick précis - women's pub, rodent staff, apparently we're sane.

I am a DD and would say that has been a mixed blessing for all sorts of reasons. Proper bra fitting is vital. Fortunately I have found a small independent lingerie shop in the nearest town who after 30 + years of experience just knows by looking what size you are and what you will need.

There used to be a fabulous department store not a million miles from us with a huge lingerie department staffed by deeply practical middle-aged women.

I took the DDs in their for their first bras. They were cosseted and reassured and sent away with bras that fitted them properly, but could be adjusted as they grew.

I had two bras from Rigby and Peller - the fitting was amazing - the woman walked in, looked at my front, spanned my back with her hands, and brought me a bra that fitted perfectly!

These bras were the only underwired bras I’ve ever had, that were completely comfortable - they cost £46 each (20+ years ago) - so when they wore out, I couldn’t afford to replace them.

I had the same experience with someone who'd been R&P-trained. I only bought one because it was twice the price of yours but just as comfortable. Prima Donna, I think, a thing of beauty with 3 colours of embroidery. 😍

I have a slow cooker bought in 1980. It is still doing sterling service.( I used it yesterday fir a casserole) It's earthenware and needs careful washing, but I wouldn't change it.

Maybe I should throw it a party. It's probably older than most of you!

I don’t think it is. DM and MiL both had what they called crockpots. Not sure if it might have been a brand name originally?

I currently own a "Crockpot" slowcooker. It's a bit like tippex and hoovering.

Talking of expensive bras, mastectomy lingerie is very pricy. I get mine, along with my prosthesis, from Amoena and always wait for their sale. Having found a bra which really fits well, I'm just praying they don't discontinue it as I haveto buy it online.

To go back to the norks discussion, I looked like Dolly Parton when feeding my first DC and for the first time truly understood how shallow many men are...

I was tall, slim and spilling out of a DD cup. Might even have been an E - it was a long time ago. I sometimes felt as if my boobs were eye magnets.

I had the pleasure of spending my 20s and 30s with men talking to my cleavage. These days I can tuck them into the waist band of my pjs, so I get more eye contact now!

This afternoon's rain has turned to snow in the past hour and has already covered the drive, the cars and the tops of the hedges. It's still quite wet stuff, but as the temperature drops, that will change. The amber warning doesn't start until 8pm, so who knows what will happen... I'm very glad we're old and retired and don't have to go anywhere.

Local weather warning upgraded to red. No longer scoffing at a "bit of a breeze".
Hold tight Devon & Cornwall.

How are you doing? The wind cranked up just before 7pm where I am (the CI) and I am using the telly to drown out the howling noise coming down the chimney. Shops closed early, the airport and harbour have shut down, the buses are finishing early, and we have already been told that there will be no postal delivery tomorrow. We had a hurricane plus a tornado tear across the island a couple of years ago, so the authorities are being proactive.

FuzzyPuffling · 08/01/2026 19:32

@misscockerspaniel We're doing ok here so far, although the worst was forecast for later this evening. We're in the eye at the moment.

I got the government alert, but DH didn't, so he's feeling unloved!

Schools have been shut and all trains heading into Cornwall are cancelled. Lanes of the Tamar Bridge are closed too- i wouldn't fancy driving over that to be fair. A gust of 108mph was recorded at Lands End and there's multiple power cuts west of us.

Stay safe and warm and I hope it's all over soon.

I was wondering if any Stockingers were in the path of the storm - that sounds dramatic, Spaniel [I hope that's an appropriate abbreviation, 'Miss' or 'Cocker' didn't sound rightSmile].
I hope you stay safe, and feel safe - the wind whistling around the house can sound so threatening, even if the house is solid and safe.

Strangely, the storm is bypassing Ireland, usually we get the full force of everything coming across the Atlantic, so we are very lucky.

On the subject of bras:
When I lived in London there was a case of two women killed by lightning, which struck the wire in their underwired bras.

For a short time we had a R and P outlet store a few miles away from us, the same perfect staff and really, really discounted last season stock.......I still mourn it's closure.

Earworm!

Wind really ramped up here now. It's very noisy. See you the other side.

Swashbuckled · 08/01/2026 21:02

Stay safe, Fuzzy.

I’ve forced myself to be very busy today, and all out of the house. I think that works best for me. Frozen beach walk, where three people were surfing! Nutters. Then me and the hound went for a wander round the shops. I then braved a grocery shop for supplies. And I have just come back from the secret fishermen.

It was a frozen walk back but we made it without slipping.

DeanElderberry · 08/01/2026 21:09

Stay safe in that wind - unusually, we are not in the danger zone this time.

Just as well, between the dangers of getting tapped in brassieres, having underwires hit by lightning, and being reminded of exploding pressure cookers and ceilings covered in soup, this thread has been quite scary enough for today.

EdithStourton · 08/01/2026 21:15

I'm glad the DDs provided so much entertainment...!

We had fog here earlier. Now just drizzle. All the best to those in the path of the storm.
