I have just received a new email from Girlguiding. They are planning on setting up a task force - 'Today, we're launching a taskforce to explore new opportunities for trans girls, trans young women and trans women. You can help us by sharing your ideas and/or expressing an interest in contributing to our taskforce. '
I'm thinking that it's really important that sex realists are included on this task force as I think that there will be pressure from the Trans handmaidens to change Girlguiding to a mixed sex organisation. Is there anyone else who has received this email and would be keen to collaborate?

I get these surveys centering men / boys with a trans identity. They always ask how can we support the trans.

I say welcome biological girls who may have a trans identity.

I am baffled by the sheer amount of energy given to focusing on males and the fucking misogyny of the whole thing. So many bloody emails about how we support men more from the GIRL guides.

It’s a horror and horrible.

It is. Repeated over and over: girls are worthless unless they're providing a backdrop for boys. Girls alone aren't enough. Girls alone are no reason for anyone to bother. Girls don't have needs or futures worth valuing. I thought this lobby cared about 'micro aggressions' (not exactly micro either), but again its a phrase that only matters if it's getting something for a man or boy with a gender identity.

It's sexism uglier than the early 20th century saw, and yet it's applauded along.

Good news, long overdue, and why the six-month delay in implementation? Will GATE be issuing a statement, I wonder?

SternJoyousBeev2 · 24/03/2026 12:44

Good news. Hopefully legal advice has put HQ in their place but I agree about why the six month delay? Is there an official annual schedule for activities? Is September tied in to the start of the school year in England?

plantcomplex · 24/03/2026 12:48

It's probably so they can leave at the end of the summer term/school year if they want. Rather than abruptly leaving mid-year. Doesn't tie up so well with Scottish school dates but that is how I would interpret it.

The BBC report includes a quote about wanting people to decide when is the best time for them to leave. It's right to be compassionate but this interim period includes the Summer, which is when most of the camping happens.

lifeturnsonadime · 24/03/2026 12:50

Well good that they have finally set a date by which they will comply with the law.

ProfMummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 24/03/2026 12:50

Hang on, trans boys can continue to be part of Girlguiding??

Continue?

As in, they were always part of girlguiding were they??

As in, Girlguiding were always happy to accept them because they are female, so they do understand sex after all!

So it's not about trans rights is it? It's about MALE rights. Not that we weren't aware of that anyway.

Not "always", no. There was a period of time where Girlguiding kicked out girls who were confused about their sex.

TWETMIRF · 24/03/2026 12:52

Yes, transboys have been allowed to be members for a while now. Initially they were not but then Girlguiding changed it so that girls who know they are girls, girls who think they are boys and boys who think they are girls could be members. Just boys who know they are boys couldn't join. This is 'fair' and 'inclusive' apparently...

Thanks and I'm glad they've addressed the adult trans situation. I felt like that was being ignored.

I agree with being compassionate to the boys who have been lied to but 6 months possibly just delays the agony. But I suppose it’s a deadline rather that a target. But yes it’s concerning that the summer camps and other overnight activities take place before the deadline. It will be interesting to see if they introduce some interim safeguarding measures to cover the summer. I think the way would be taking a HUGE risk to carry on carrying on in the meantime.

plantcomplex · 24/03/2026 12:59

They have deliberately chosen the date to allow boys to continue participating in activities over the summer holidays:

"Following this policy change, we are not able to offer membership to trans girls in our youth sections (Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and young leaders). This means current young members who are trans girls or trans young women can stay with Girlguiding until 6 September 2026, and they will leave Girlguiding by 6 September. We have chosen this date to give as much notice as possible, so all current members are able to take part in activities during the summer term and over the summer holidays."

Coatsoff42 · 24/03/2026 13:00

This is good preparation for adult life, where you accept your biology from time to time, and you can’t change reality no matter how anxious or upset it makes you.

Facing reality for these kids is not a bad experience to go through now while they are young before they make big irreversible choices, and realising adults are can be wrong even if they seem like they are being nice and giving you what you want, that’s useful too.

Oh what a tangled web!! Sound a bit like Blur.... girls who are girls but then girls think they're boys and then boys think they're girls but not boys who are boys...😆

At least for all the posturing and hand wringing taskforce nonsense, they're still having to follow the law 👏 👏 👏

Yeah. Sounds pretty illegal to me. Archived? I'll do it.

They're signposting to Mermaids.

"If you are a young person, or an adult worried about a young person and their mental health, Girlguiding has worked with YoungMinds who are prepared to offer tailored support. Support is available via the contact details on their website.

Here is a list of expert and specialised organisations who have also agreed to provide support for issues relating to trans+ youth, mental health and wellbeing:

Gendered Intelligence – is a trans-led and trans-involving charity that works to increase understandings of gender diversity and improve the lives of trans people.

Mermaids - supports transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse children and young people, as well as their families and professionals involved in their care.

Mosaic Trust - an organisation which supports, educates and inspires young LGBTQ+ persons and those around them.

Proud Trust - through regional youth work and national support services, empowers LGBTQ+ young people and the adults in their lives to create positive change for the future."

Well, good lord. Those are bold choices.
