3rd April 2002 she's plain Deborah Boyd. Given the other professors on the list, if she had a 'professor' title to use she'd have used it and it would be mentioned.

ETA: So she has to get it between April 2002 and October 2004

Edited

She didn’t get it - that’s the only conclusion.

She’d need to have a PhD and be working in a University. Which wasn’t happening.

SexRealistic · 15/11/2025 16:41

I wonder - if a few people checking Prof led to this - perhaps it’s worth a view at Micheal McKeown?

He is from a captured Union - Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (NIPSA).

They did a good show on advancing trans rights in 2016 or 2017.

A nice bundle showing public statements, policies, advocacy actions, and related initiatives might help EJ Sturgeon consider her unbiased panel of 2.

Well found. It would definitely fit with the claim on R3 and, if it do proves, doesn’t make her an actual Prof in the way she is using it.

I’m getting ‘page not found’ on that link. Has someone deleted it?

I agree re the local barrister bit.

Naomi had to speak up even as they heckled and booed her essentially.

Whilst you obviously have to follow the structure and form and process of hearings, it should also be that if someone has to be brave and call out significant concerns that they are facilitated and supported to do so.

Otherwise you end up with scandals where everyone says, 'someone should have said something' whilst knowing that everyone did everything they could to make it impossible.

A more professional, moderate and circumspect judge may have kept their counsel until they turned up with takeaway not a genuine legal flare and only lost their shit then.

That’s Northern Ireland for you. Corrupt as shit.

All the unions are pro-trans. Policies are usually set by the members and he's staff. You can't accuse union panel members of bias because it's usually the small number of left wing activists who get involved and pass these motions at their conferences.

This university clearly does have a history of appointing non-academics from industry to visiting professor posts. Several recent announcements make mention of a four-year term; but it's not out of the question that that's a recent tidying up. Could be that they used not to specify a term, so that some people so appointed could carry on calling themselves that indefinitely; universities aren't always good at guarding against unexpected behaviour until it happens! Obviously this doesn't make it ok for her to be calling herself Professor twenty years later (or ever, without making it clear it's a visiting position). I wonder whether we will ever know the full story.

Yes this is what she said she had - a time limited visiting profressor role.

Not an actual Professor.

@Boiledbeetle or @MarieDeGournay or @MyrtleLion or anyone with capacity to assist at all?

Does anyone have a bit of time over the weekend to gather together a thread three proper run up - so the link to Nick Wallis thread reader app summaries, his news post and blogs. Like @nauticant‘s amazing work on the Peggie threads.

And a summary cast of characters? I am at a family thing so just on phone - but I can help with content & editing if needed tomorrow. Is suspect by Monday we will need a new thread. I expect fireworks 🧨.

Yes. I'll post something on here that you can copy into thread 3.

remove the -dev from the url to see wayback results (but no Boydy)

There's a VP on that page called Anthony Harbison who is 'Director of Access to Justice and Director of the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunal Service, Department of Justice'. He's the only one without a photo on his profile.

DeanElderberry · 15/11/2025 16:51

A friend of mine was a woman Professor in Northern Ireland from ca 1990 and it was a big deal. She had a long list of peer-reviewed publications, sat on international academic committees, wrote books and 'grey literature' articles, lectured to all sorts of groups and did the usual academic work with undergraduates and post graduates.

She would have been outraged at some chancer playing games with a title that took so much hard work.

I wouldn't like to hazard a guess as to how many professors there are on this thread, but I bet it's not zero :-)

I know personally he may not be implicated but given what a cursory glance at ‘Prof’ did - if he has biased views it should be before the Tribunal. Because they clearly have no self reflection.

Can't be zero as we have our very own Prof of Lavatorial Studies on here

My DH was ‘pure ragin’ she was potentially misusing PhD.

It matters and goes to her integrity. She shouldn’t be on a panel if she isn’t a Professor.

Great post @Largofesse
Agin is a great, underused word

Mention of genealogy up thread reminded me that British Newspaper Archive or Find My Past's newspaper archive is a great source even into 1990s and later. Unfortunately I have used up my free trail a while ago. Portadown Times, Lurgan Mail or Armagh Observer would have loved a Lurgan Tech pupil done good story.

I have a FMP subscription and there are 96 references to the name Deborah Boyd in NI press articles listed. I've checked the first 2 pages and most are references to our Deborah Boyd and one or other of her companies/positions in the 1990s and 2000s.

Interesting! Is she down as being a Professor throughout?

I'm not a professor. But I do have proof that i passed my cycling profiency in 1983 (still got the badge somewhere as well). I shall going forward style myself as Boiledbeetle NCP.

Or maybe not as i'll be mistaken for a non character player or a multi storey carpark and I can't have that.

It is very possible that this is the conversation that took place.

It is also possible that this isn't the reason that DB pulled a face, asked for a break and said, 'I have a concern.'

"I have a concern, which <re-thinks, quickly, on her feet> is that ... my FM is playing up and I need to take a tablet which I just left in the hearing room, oh bother...."

None of this makes sense. It's just conspiracy layered on top of conspiracy.
