Wow - there isn't enough 🍿 🍿 🍿

While we are waiting... Coolforcats mentioned about Lola has the Witch been sacked yet Pettigrew being in the TV adaptation of Trespasses.

My reading of that novel is that is has a very strong message that prejudice and intolerance of difference, including difference of belief, is very damaging for society. And that vigilante action against those with different beliefs is unacceptable, likewise oppressive authoritarian intervention in daily life and people being sidelined and shunned. Characters are constantly on edge watching what they say, who they are seen with... maybe Lola will join the dots.

OMG, could be

If this is what happened it would have made sense at this point for the conflict of interest to be raised. If the panel member had realised there was a conflict that she had previously been unaware of why not be transparent about it?

Kucinghitam · 14/11/2025 16:09

My goodness, what developments!

I'm very confused though, as PP have said it doesn't seem like there's a smoking gun? Surely it can't be that she was pulling faces - surely we don't agree with facecrime? So the problem is not that the panel member has historical associations, but that she did not declare them?

NoBinturongsHereMate · 14/11/2025 16:10

MarieDeGournay · 14/11/2025 15:10

So the panel member is not a 60+ year old woman?
Then she's not the waste management DB, who, as I said before, far from not having an internet presence, has lots of it eg
Re3's Chief Executive Officer, Professor Deborah Boyd, is the 2009 NIEA Sustainable Ireland Environmental Leader of the Year.

If that's the case, poor woman, sharing the same name and title!

Panel member is 60+. I was saying the Clydeco suggestion was way too young.

Noodledog · 14/11/2025 16:10

I know this is probably minor to the point of irrelevancy, but I'm baffled by the whole Professor thing. I understand what people have said about it probably being honorary for a visiting role she's done at some point, but why would she use it when working on a tribunal but not mention it on Linkedin? All she has in the education section is some o-levels.

Largesso · 14/11/2025 16:12

Not being expert it seems quite straightforward what the judge should do. The judge should canvas the panel on their personal view on trans ideology because if they hold a strong belief that TWAW and thr saying anything else is transphobic they can’t reasonably take an objective position in this case. Also, if they do hold those beliefs should they not have declared them from the off as the claimant has a right to know?

Any chance she set up her LinkedIn years ago and has never used it or updated since before she became a prof ?

If she had been a director years ago and had no involvement for the last X years, she should have said I use to be a director of WRDA 20 years ago and haven't been involved since 2010

WRDA were criticised by SM in her LWS speech.

That would have resulted in NC and the Respondent being asked if it was OK for DB to continue or for DB to be removed and a replacement found - this would have delayed he tribunal possibly for a day but if longer could have been managed.

It appears she asked the Judge for a private conversation about it this week. Said conversation happened but judge came back and continued as if nothing happened.

So it's not facecrime. She may have just remembered at that point. But if so it should have been disclosed to the court, so they could decide if they wanted to continue.

GrumpyMenopausalWombWielder · 14/11/2025 16:16

Any sign of the panel returning yet? I keep refreshing Nick’s timeline on X & not getting the new thread he says he’ll start for this.

I think that was someone speculating the note was about that but I don’t think we know for sure that’s what generated the
private chat. before that speculation the speculation was a negative reaction to use of pronouns.

You can be a Visiting Professor if you have professional experience.

For example from. the Royal Academy of Engineering

The VP Scheme will however embrace taught masters degrees providing these are accredited as contributing to the educational base for CEng professional qualification.
The intention of the VP scheme is for experienced industrial engineers and entrepreneurs to participate for example in curriculum development, face-to-face teaching or mentoring of engineering undergraduates, or the development of innovative approaches to engineering teaching & learning (such as flipped-classroom, problem-based learning and team working) that recognise that engineering education is not simply the accumulation of knowledge, but should identify with the process of engineering through the stages of creativity, design, and innovation.

My bold.

So senior industry people help with engineering students.

That sounds sensible.
On the other hand, it could also be said that NOT believing TWAW is a mirror image, and equally un-objective, favouring the C over the R?

Would a panel member have to declare they have a trans child? After all, so has the claimant.

I'm playing devil's advocate.

No, Belfast Telegraph article from 2010 (when it was Not Really A Thing) says: Debbie Boyd (50) is the chief executive officer of Re3, a resource and recycling company. She lives in Armagh with husband Trevor and daughter Zoe (22).

Yes I saw that, but I have found someone who looks roughly the right age and also works in PR/Marketing, based in Manchester of the same name.

Remarkable coincidence if not the same person.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 14/11/2025 16:21

MarieDeGournay · 14/11/2025 15:40

This seems very stretched. DB might not have been aware of all these connections
Dúirt bean liom go ndúirt bean léi as we say in Irish - 'a woman told me that a woman told her..'
and who knows what the WRDA was like in 2019, it might not have been 'captured' at that time.

If the note from the journo came from NW, SD is right to point out that NW is not neutral when it comes to what he calls 'genderwang'.

I trust there is more to it than this!

Note was from a female journalist.

Very bad manners of me to join this thread so late in the day, but... fucking hell! I've been glued to X this afternoon. Got absolutely nothing done.

SexRealistic · 14/11/2025 16:22

Can someone run through Nicks tweets on Tuesday? Or Wednesday? It likely says Panel rises - I have concerns.

Then cross ref on Mumsnet? I’m sure it was commented on.

Fiona from Sex Matters really noticed it.

I don't even want to go for a pee in case I miss the panels return

NoBinturongsHereMate · 14/11/2025 16:23

People coming back into the hearing room.

ThatDaringMintCritic · 14/11/2025 16:23

if DB is a visiting prof, it still seems strange there is nothing coming up on a university / departmental website.

There wasn't much live pasting on MN on Tuesday.

Here are that day's posts from NW.
