Welcome to The Bluestocking, the perfectly overblown, gloriously chaotic all-women’s pub where you can have a bit of a lie down if you need it.

Expect serious debates on musicals, cake and knitting, and whimsical musings on women’s rights and why the world’s on fire (again), all under the calm supervision of our support staff: gerbils, capybaras, and the occasional quokka on secondment.

The alcohol won’t get you drunk, the pastries won’t make you fat, but the conversation will digress, and that’s the point.

Remember to namechange before posting if you’re sometimes someone else.

I did ponder asking a gerbil to sit on my nose, but it sounded weird. And I was worried they might think it was demeaning.

They'll do anything for money.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/11/2025 18:32

You could ask Myrtle to knit you one, with some yarn left over from the stockings.

Galadriel is happy to do it, but wants to know if you want her right now or do you want to wait five minutes til she's cleaned the goat poo out of her fur?

Take your time, Galadriel...

She'll be nice & hot by the time she's finished.

There's a thread about furry heated throws which is making me want one, but DH is vetoing it. Maybe you could have a nose-sized one? Or just get one of the gerbils to lie on it.

I have a furry heated throw, as does DH. And they are wonderful. I thoroughly recommend them. Get one, and refuse to lend it to your DH. That'll larn 'im!

ErrolTheDragon · 18/11/2025 19:17

DH bought us each a heated throw but I find it does the job without being heated so I’ve never plugged mine in. However, at the same time he bought me an electric blanket - that’s lovely, because I like my bedroom a little on the cold side.

Cold noses though…a dragon really should never suffer from that but IRL it’s a nuisance. One solution if camping or similarly chilly sleeping is to wear a hoodie with a sufficiently large hood that you can pull it down over your eyes and nose - eye mask and nose warmer combined. But obviously impractical in the day.

Lidl's magazine of promised delights has a human sized pet bed this week

https://www.lidl.ie/p/silentnight-human-pet-bed/p10053556

I was briefly distracted but then remembered that my human sized human bed is already full of pets, so why?

I will also not be buying the ice bath.

You ever wonder what's going on in the Staunch Ally whilst we are in here having intellectual conversations?

That's so funny! and thank you for telling us to turn the sound up, I always have mine muted and gosh what I would have missed!😃
I didn't look closely enough to see why it has to be at the Staunch Ally and not the Bluestocking, but I'll trust your observational skills😄

And the next clip on that thread had ferrets actually reversing.

Do they go " Beep BEEP, this ferret is reversing, this ferret is reversing"?

Today I took advantage of the Great Cloudfare Outage to do things like get my hair cut, and get a parking ticket [I've appealed - the machines weren't working and I'm hoping they were affected by the outage; otherwise I'll just have to pay up].
I had to go into the city to get something, and took the local train, the DART Dublin Area Rapid Transit which goes along the edge of Dublin bay. The view was beautiful, the tide was out and the blue of the sky was reflected in blue rivulets running through the sand. There were grey and cream and pink clouds.

It was the setting for the scene in Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man:

A girl stood before him in midstream, alone and still, gazing out to sea. She seemed like one whom magic had changed into the likeness of a strange and beautiful seabird. Her long slender bare legs were delicate as a crane’s and pure save where an emerald trail of seaweed had fashioned itself as a sign upon the flesh..

A while ago I was in the same place, on foot, and by chance there was a girl, alone and still, gazing out to sea, and I took this photo:

That's beautiful @MarieDeGournay - except for the parking ticket!

SionnachRuadh · 19/11/2025 12:22

I've had to go out of town on business for a couple of days, and still a bit knackered from the journey. At the moment I just want to put my feet up.

Here's a wee snow leopard.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/11/2025 13:23

Snoweeeeeeee! She's beautiful ..but I'm not sure she likes being picked up!

EdithStourton · 19/11/2025 13:49

Or being stroked.
I require a badger to bandage my hand.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2025 13:55

She looks pissed off at being picked up in a somewhat undignified way, doesn’t she?

Britinme · 19/11/2025 13:59

Temporarily AWOL - DS1 visiting from England and next week we’re going to NJ for Thanksgiving to visit DS2 and his family. DDIL just posted a picture of DGD1 on Facebook because they went to an open day at the high school she will be going to NEXT YEAR! Noooo! Where did that beautiful baby go?

What is it about time that means childhood goes on for such a long time and then suddenly it rushes towards adulthood when I’m not ready for it?

Magpiecomplex · 19/11/2025 17:34

Budge up around the hot chocolate bowser please, chilly magpie coming in. I was supposed to be out this morning but decided not to, looking at the weather, so I spent the morning at work catching up on admin instead. Boring but necessary.

Magpiecomplex · 19/11/2025 17:40

Handy having a dragon around, isn't it?
