Welcome to The Bluestocking, the perfectly overblown, gloriously chaotic all-women’s pub where you can have a bit of a lie down if you need it.

Expect serious debates on musicals, cake and knitting, and whimsical musings on women’s rights and why the world’s on fire (again), all under the calm supervision of our support staff: gerbils, capybaras, and the occasional quokka on secondment.

The alcohol won’t get you drunk, the pastries won’t make you fat, but the conversation will digress, and that’s the point.

Remember to namechange before posting if you’re sometimes someone else.

My local Tesco has shoved its rather small display of Pride tat on the discount shelf. They're hoping people will pay 45p. They'd have been better putting it next to the blue hair dye.

I wonder if someone at the Railway has a nonbinary niece? Or possibly, running with the stereotypes here, there's an ND link? RMW, I believe, has an association with the Tank Museum.

Calvin and Hobbes helped raise my kids.

rmw is or was involved in a heritage railway, Somerset iirc.

If Maud asks you haven't seen them!

They do look rather worried.

Here's Maud! 😧

Yes, you're definitely right Woley.

I would love a tiger that came to life. I have asked dh if we could adopt a tiger cub, and it could come and live with us, and he says no. He is so mean. He reckons it would eat us, but I think, if we had it from a tiny cub, it would grow up thinking it was just a big cat.

You are absolutely right, @SionnachRuadh .

This is the reunion video of my grandfather, Christian the lion, with the two Australian men, John Randall.and Anthony Bourke, who bought him from Harrods as a cub, then raised him. Eventually they released him into the wild and five years later returned to find him.

If you're pressed for time, watch from 0:54.

He used to tell me this story when I was a cub and encouraged me to see the good in humans. "Find your tribe," he said. "Treat them well and you will receive love in return."

I swear he's the main reason I don't eat anyone. Or the gerbils.

I saw the hygienist this morning. Everything was fine but he asked me why I suddenly had brown stains on my teeth. Everywhere.

Turns out that the dark burgundy antibiotic doesn't just turn my pee orangey-red. It's in every single bodily fluid, including my tears and saliva. 😔

I now have some whitening toothpaste and he has booked name in for a stronger powder application when I stop taking them.

Didn't they go back a couple more times, & Christian was less interested in them & then completely uninterested, which was great as he'd got his own life in the wild?

Honoured to know his granddaughter. 🦁

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2025 13:43

Aww, big puddy tat…

the problem with that is that some cats are 99.99% cuddly pet but once in a while will decide to ambush you, front legs wrapped firmly around your lower limb claws out while furiously biting. Or they’ll roll over for a tummy tickle and then do something similar.

Yes, sadly he was affected by Calzheimers in his later years...

But it's lovely to know he had some closure.

That lion video! 😍

EdithStourton · 17/11/2025 15:33

Given the silence in the Bluey I think I need to hot-foot it over to the tribunal...

Nothing required, gerbils. As you were. Or even better, hide in this back pack I'm popping into the left luggage room. Maud will never think to look in there.

AsWithGlad · 17/11/2025 16:10

Myrtle, I do like your new title/name on the BFF thread.

Boiledbeetle · 17/11/2025 17:09

Not long left.

Can someone take her a towel, she's sweating profusely.

Poor little soul.
I'm not an elevated prof, I can run a towel round.

Or you drop the lid of the catnip tin right next to the catnip you just put down for them & stupidly try to pick up the lid while they're investigating the catnip.

It was a week ago, & I still have the scars.

Have you got the lid back from them yet?

It's nearly forty quid!

Poor Maud. I remember my first ebay auction. It was for some gorgeous vintage fabric, & I sat watching it count down, waiting for it to be mine - & someone sniped it in the final second!!! I'd had no idea that could happen, & I was so upset that it took me hours to recover. 😂

I'm sadder & wiser these days. And I've sniped other people & I don't feel guilty about that. You snooze, you lose.

Good luck, Maud!

Oh yes, I got it straight away. When attacked, I was too stunned to stop & withdraw. Also sunk cost & all that.

She's just willing 9.02 pm to hurry up and arrive now. She feels like she's on the last couple of miles of a marathon. So near and yet so far!
