I just wanted to draw your attention to the march planned for the 1st November in London. The organisers have now announced that there will be a 199 Days Later demo in Edinburgh, Scottish Parliament, and a demo in Cardiff, the Senedd, at the same time. Hopefully lots more women can now attend the closest action to them.

Sigh. The only clashes were between the TRAs & the police. Not us.

Whatthechicken · 01/11/2025 19:51

It was fabulous, before the event there had been serious threats of violence made, speakers names were not announced because of this. And yes, lots of sailors!

London was fantastic. Huge turnout & the TRAs were kept well out of the way for the whole thing.

The Met police did an absolutely brilliant job for us.

So pleased it went well ❤️

I am very bemused. Did any of us even go near that side of the road?

SlackJawedDisbeliefXY · 01/11/2025 20:02

Just back from London. Great event, well policed - the protesters were quiet enough that I did not realize there were any.

At times difficult to hear what was being said until the speaker was lifted up above peoples heads - thanks to those who took turns to do this.

Suggestion. The speaker should have a hole in the bottom allowing it to be mounted on a stand. The stands do not cost much but you need to be sure that the stand fits into the bottom of the speaker. Should make things a lot easier to hear

Not as far as I know. Three blokes who I’m pretty sure were TRAs made it to our side at one point, took a few photos & just sort of hung around looking odd but I assume they either moved on or got removed.

Thank you for sharing that. Looking at the placards from the TRAs most of the slogans make no sense whatsoever.

Women: implement our right to single sex spaces as the law says

activitists: er.... hands off our bodies (?) .... until we're all free none of us are free... (?)

whitehandledkitchenlang · 01/11/2025 22:20

I'm blowing off the cobwebs of my account to join in with the praise for this event. Well done to all the wimms who worked so hard to organise it. Thank you.
It felt, despite our frustrations and anger, a joyous and important event. Some really constructive conversations were had with passers by who were overwhelmingly supportive.
I enjoyed walking past the tras who were corralled behind barriers, behind a line of police and across a very wide road from us, between Parliament Square and Downing St. We were seen and we were heard.

London was great, the speakers were brilliant and the police did a really good job.

There was no “clashing” with TRAs, they were kept well away from us and they could witter away to their hearts’ content without bothering us.

What was with all the Navy chaps? I nipped into a pub to use the loo and could barely get out again Grin

Yes - fantastic day which shouldn’t have been necessary. I’m sorry I missed you & @Helleofabore but I got to chat with a lot of other amazing women, including Rachel Rooney. 🤩

Waves back.

it was awesome fo find out just how far women came just to be part of the day. Just brilliant.

I join in the congratulating of the organisers. It was such a different event not having the women’s voices being drowned out by noise because those who wanted to hold their own event down near the banks of the Thames were given the space to do so away from our event.

Janeslittlegirl, I don’t know that many of us walking past even looked across to see specific protestors. Very few would have seen the toplessness. I suspect that a group of them now do it purely for their own benefit. I wonder if their topless protests have made people stop and listen. I doubt it.

They said it was their Sub-mariners' Remembrance Service day

I read ‘speaker’ in the second para as meaning ‘person speaking’ and envisioned a woman being proudly held aloft by others….…third para Shock followed by rapid adjustment of mental image to loudspeaker 😂

It made sense to me at the when I wrote it but I see what you mean ...
I was carefully trying not to use 'PA' but yes, the loudspeaker was lifted up, not the speaker themselves.
I won't comment on the third para 😂

EmpressaurusKitty · 02/11/2025 05:23

Yes, men did a great job of holding the loudspeaker!

The men standing at the front filming were making it harder for women to see until prompted to either kneel or sit down. Which, to be fair, they did at that point.

BettyFilous · 02/11/2025 07:10

If you got chatting to the sailors, were they supportive? Is awareness is growing in spite of the media’s tendency to ignore this issue?

EmpressaurusKitty · 02/11/2025 07:32

I wasn’t in the pub with the sailors but I’d love to know if Tracy Edwards was.
