NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #51

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence was 29 July 2025. It resumed again over 1 to 2 September for closing submissions.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February 2025. Sandie Peggie returned to give more evidence on 29 July 2025.

Access to view the second part of the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

Does NC get to say more tomorrow or is it just JR?

Both will answer the panel’s questions, then they will have closing remarks. So NC can rebut the SP said DU was in a bra and trousers -:she didn’t, and also say, You must find in our favour because SC, DU is a man and misled the court, and JR’s case is rubbish.

I know. It's very immature. Bigly letters are not big and they are not clever.... well OK they are big and yes OK they are clever but apart from that...😁

With great fonts comes great responsibility

The trouble with the boring factor is it means we'll have to work out a method for telling people when it's worth paying attention tomorrow morning, just in case any of us are distracted, because we've just bought a

new novel by a favourite author

and started reading it

Avoiding the clever formatting show offs, do we get to read the submissions by the various parties who are intervening? Can anyone point me towards them please?

I don't think anyone has linked to them yet.

Bloody hell! Anything above football is a phenomenon. (Transfer day is about buying and selling players, and Liverpool FC are spending a fortune).

If anyone would like to listen to Michael Foran's take on this this evening (and any more he does in September), send me a PM with your email address. I have subscribed to his Substack just for this month and have a small number of subscriptions to "gift." I don't know exactly what time it will be, in the past they sent me an email when it was about to start. It's recorded so subscribers can watch it later anyway.

My thanks go to lolichi who sent me a subscription which worked for the July set of sittings and MF's comments in August. He explains things very clearly, I think.

Mine is an audiobook, so I could have it playing…

Christ, he's beating transfer deadline day in the Premier League.

International jurisprudence? Is this part of a long-term strategy to escalate to the European Court of Human Rights and bore them into submission as well?

lcakethereforeIam · 01/09/2025 16:16

I don't understand if it was hot in the court room why they didn't all strip down to their undies. That is apparently okay in front of a member of the opposite sex with whom you have only a professional relationship. If they want to be a bit extra I'm sure all the male members could identify as women until the heating was sorted out.

Dr Theo-Beth Upton must really wish that JR hadn't chosen him for a Streisand moment! (Three mentions in a report that won't be widely read has become this show in the spotlight.)

JKR entered the hashtag. Hence the trending. Bless her.

I think I'm gonna hold off reading Naomi's closing subs etc as a treat for after JR has finished.

My understanding is that Twitter trends are personalised to users' interests and geography. So if you browse a lot of GC content on Twitter, it'll serve you related content in trending. People who aren't interested in GC stuff will see other topics in their top ten. I was disappointed to learn this myself, but now I take my Trending tab with a pinch of salt.

Have you tried freezing them? Apparently that's quite nice (I can't test this as I have a wheat allergy so no Tunnocks for me 😭).
