Get the popcorn folks. GLP is getting ready to lose again.

They are going after barrister Sarah Phillimore for referring to a man as a man. They think they are going to lawfare her into silence.

The only thing is other TAs have already tried this on Phillimore multiple times. They went to the Bar Council their claims were dismissed. They all failed. More to the point this ‘Kate’ is the same guy complaining again who already failed. Sarah Phillimore knows the law and likes explaining it to TAs and making them lose. So she doesn't even resent the attempt.

As Sarah has stated "They pick on someone who not only enjoys this but has now a vast repository of knowledge about the law in this area."

In further news the Foxed one is being accused of bias against “unsophisticated feral gypsy” Alan [Sarah] Baker the violent sex criminal as it appears JM refused to give him legal support according to Barker's partner.

Supporting Sparkles, but not Baker the difference being one of them has a thirty year prison sentence fir horrific violence the other one just threatens it. Interesting choice, way more sensible than usual. Kind of seems transphobic though.

There's another pretend woman, Samuel Wimbridge, self-styled Kizzy Lavender Lee-Wimbridge, who has been charged with child sex offences, next hearing scheduled for next week.

He too claims to be Romani, and I don't doubt that adding the Lee to his surname is an attempt to bolster that claim.

I'm of partial Romani descent. I don't self-describe as Romani because I didn't grow up in the community or in contact with its traditions.

There's been a thing for a long time of people claiming to be Romani when they aren't, because it adds a bit of exoticism to one's background. I see it as being a bit like all these Americans, almost invariably white women, who claim Native American origin with they don't have - lots of universities over there have Native Studies programmes, and Native activists have estimated that no more than 20% of the academics in the field are actually Native.

Of course white American women can get an academic career path out of falsely claiming to be Cherokee or whatever. I don't know what material benefit you'd get out of falsely claiming to be Romani unless you work as a fortune teller.

I'd really be unsurprised to find transracialism in the gender community. It's an extremely white demographic that for ideological reasons feels it has to denigrate white people.

I suppose it's unsurprising that they want to appropriate another culture and probably claim people are being racist as well as transphobic, because they have neither shame, nor respect for anyone.

Re the name-change: Kizzy was the heroine of a Rumer Godden book (originally titled Diddakoi) about a young girl with Romany heritage. It was televised in the 70s and you can watch it in YouTube. It was one of my favourite books as a child.

Erm.. I am going to read this. Older people round my way use Diddicoy as a casual racial slur for travelling people.

Where I'm from, Diddicoy was used for non-Romani travellers.

It is actually a Romani word and was at one time used by Romani people. But with the creation of the "Gypsy and Traveller" group, it's now considered a slur

Oh, and in the case of the pretend woman appearing in court next week, given that his profile on FetLife notes a sexual interest in BDSM and redheads, amongst other things, it seems likely that he took his new name from a red-headed female porn performer who goes by the pseudonym (presumably) “Kizzy Lee", and who has videos on FetLife which involve extreme bondage and torture scenarios.

The girl in tthe book is othered and treated as an outsider, hence the title.

Just about the only time I'll lean into my Romani heritage is when I see gadje ostentatiously taking offence on behalf of a community that they really really obviously don't belong to or know anything about. You get a lot of this in certain corners of Reddit.

Sometimes I wonder if there's a thing of young women adopting fake ethnicities or baroque gender identities or chronic illnesses with fuzzy diagnostic criteria, purely for the joy of telling people off.

It was awful, the connection dropped out every 3 seconds but the brave lads just filled in th gaps with giggles and applause. It seeemed clear baker was further up the hierarchy than they were so him bing annoyed that GLP wouldn’t take his car make sense
