Get the popcorn folks. GLP is getting ready to lose again.

They are going after barrister Sarah Phillimore for referring to a man as a man. They think they are going to lawfare her into silence.

The only thing is other TAs have already tried this on Phillimore multiple times. They went to the Bar Council their claims were dismissed. They all failed. More to the point this ‘Kate’ is the same guy complaining again who already failed. Sarah Phillimore knows the law and likes explaining it to TAs and making them lose. So she doesn't even resent the attempt.

As Sarah has stated "They pick on someone who not only enjoys this but has now a vast repository of knowledge about the law in this area."

Fair enough @SerendipityJane and my comment meant no disrespect to your post. I’m inundated with pronouns and being kind both at work (starting meetings, badges, emails, asking students to declare theirs etc) and, unfortunately, at home.

So my comment is a reaction to this barrister annoyingly also perpetuating the implication that nice respectful people use preferred pronouns without thinking through what doing so actually means. The subtext being if you don’t, you’re a meany. Possibly he means like SP.

The rest was interesting from a legal perspective so I appreciate the link as well as an example of how deep and widespread #bekind has been embedded.

Occasionally there are some interesting nuances pointed out, in a generally agenda-free manner.

If you want to be annoyed, his mate the BlackBeltBarrister seems a little more shrill and his videos have rather OTT titles and can safely be ignored.

I've found that most days in about 2 minutes, I can scroll through my YT feed and by reading the titles be just as informed without watching a single video. Add to that the same time just scrolling down my FB feed and a smattering of moderated USENET posts, and 10 minutes sees me newsed up for the day.

Maybe we could trick him into supporting some kind of fake awful abusive man who hates women and who lies about everything especially about the frequent complaints he make. Someone so outrageously terrible and unconvincing that it would make Maugham look like an absolute clown for supporting him and would destroy any legitimacy he has left. Then get him into a situation where the whole thing becomes public record so everyone could laugh at him.

This is a very good and actually quite upsetting point. Maugham has raised a million pounds. Every penny will go to fund his ego when it could have established a dedicated service for trans identifying men facing abuse and violence.
