Giggle V Tickle in court August 4

Feminists in the UK seem to have an enormous amount of momentum in the UK - the wins keep coming. Here in Australia, things are moving very slowly. However, the Giggle v Tickle appeal is coming up on 4-7th August before a Federal Court panel. It will be livestreamed.

I will add the link below if anyone is up for some gardening it is much needed.

I am not close to the case, but there are some pleasing updates - the Lesbian Action Group has been given permission to intervene, and they have a very clever and well-versed in feminism legal team of Megan Blake and Leigh Howard. I wasn't particularly impressed with the legal arguments put forward in court in the first round, but there is a new SC (like a KC) on the team - don't know of him except he does work for the richest woman in Australia, so hopefully he knows how to make a good case too.

In other developments, Jillian Spencer, a psychiatrist in Queensland who was suspended for criticising pediatric gender medicine at her hospital is bringing several lawsuits, including discrimination on the grounds of belief. She is probably an excellent claimant for lawfare. And a convicted murderer in NSW applied to be moved from a male to a female prison, but the NSW government seems to be ruling that out despite having just brought in self-id and having allowed it before (maybe the sexual assault allegations that occurred previously would be more damaging if repeated in the current climate). It may have opened some eyes though.

Have you checked time zones? If your appointment is GMT then you may be fine.

I’m in Australia and the same time zone as the court.

Sall Grover was appearing on Sky News last night.

FeralWoman · 29/07/2025 09:46

Managed to change DH’s appointment so I’ll be able to follow the case on YouTube.

Sall still needs gardening help if anyone has some spare seeds.

LittleBitofBread · 29/07/2025 13:46

It will be interesting to see how this goes in light of cases like the Sandie Peggie and Sarah Summers ones.

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/07/2025 20:07

<gets comfy on thread>

Appalonia · 29/07/2025 21:14

If it's livestreamed, I'm just wondering what time it will be in the UK? And also, I really hope Sal gets justice this time. Things have changed a lot in the UK, but don't know how much things have changed in Australia?

FeralWoman · 29/07/2025 23:47

It will live on the court’s YouTube channel. No recording or video available afterwards. Live or nothing. Not even any screenshots are allowed to be taken in Australia.

Assuming that it begins at 9am it will be midnight in the UK. Australia is ahead of the UK by 9 hours due to the UK’s daylight saving time. I think that we’re actually 10 hours ahead but daylight saving messes that up. If court goes until 4pm then that will be 7am UK.

FeralWoman · 30/07/2025 15:04

Sall has posted details on Twitter. Starts at 10:15am AEST Monday 4 August. That’s 1:15am UK time Monday. Runs for 4 days.

FeralWoman · 03/08/2025 06:14

Reminder that Sall’s appeal hearing starts in 19 hours. That’s at 10:15am AEST, or 1:15am UK time.

It will be livestreamed on the Federal Court of Australia YouTube channel. It will only be viewable while it is live.

If you have spare seeds please consider doing a bit a gardening if you can.

Fuck Julia Gillard for amending the Sex Discrimination Act to effectively become the gender discrimination act. Such a betrayal of women from our first female Prime Minister.

Fingers crossed that Sall wins and us Australian women get our rights back to single sex spaces. I get angry that my 15yo DD could have to put up with a boy in her school toilets and that he would have every legal right to be there.

Good luck Sall.
I wish I could watch live but the UK timing is impossible for me.
Will be watching for updates.

birchtreeglow · 04/08/2025 00:08

Saw that Sall posted a link to this earlier:

"Trans women should have legal protections available to pregnant women, court told...
The claim from the Sex Discrimination Commissioner is part of an extraordinary submission lodged with the Federal Court, with Sall Grover’s appeal against Roxanne Tickle to begin on Monday."

Bonkers.

Apparently https://x.com/tribunaltweets2 will be covering for those not able to watch live.

Oh wow, that article details some absolutely bonkers bullshit from the Sex Discrimination Commissioner. She shouldn’t hold that position. Somebody intelligent and who understands science should be in that position.

Dogsrbrill · 04/08/2025 00:46

I've just gardened . she needs a lot more seeds ad there is no generous backer in Australia and it's going to cost over a million

TheSandgroper · 04/08/2025 00:56

Thanks @BoreOfWhabylon

FeralWoman · 04/08/2025 01:17

We begin.

chilling19 · 04/08/2025 01:22

👋

FeralWoman · 04/08/2025 01:22

Tickle is there.

Three judges. Two women, one man. One of the women is in charge of the court.

FeralWoman · 04/08/2025 01:28

It’s a big courtroom. They’re a second story of seating like a theatre. There’s probably easily 150-200 seats for observers.

So far it’s arguments about which intervenors are appearing, how long each side will be allocated to talk and that it’s uneven, how many days, etc.

teksquad · 04/08/2025 01:30

wow, big room!

FeralWoman · 04/08/2025 01:33

I guess they’re anticipating a lot of media attending. I don’t know if the mainstream media will cover it. Unlikely that they will.

99bottlesofkombucha · 04/08/2025 01:34

I don’t really have time to watch it. The man speaking for Sal about timings is quite hesitant in his speech, I assume he’s well practiced though.

FeralWoman · 04/08/2025 01:36

Technology issues. Court book is electronic not paper. Judges trying to navigate it on their computers.
