I haven't got it yet, but this new book has impressed Helen Joyce, Sharron Davies and many others: I imagine Mumsnet gets a starring role.

Terf Island: How the UK Resisted Trans Ideology by Fiona McAnena. Director of campaigns, Sex Matters.

The United Kingdom has been labelled Terf Island - sometimes affectionately and sometimes contemptuously - for its successful resistance to transgender ideology.

This is the story of the brave and determined women who led the charge against trans activist demands which undermined their rights and jeopardised the physical and mental health of children. They dragged shadowy campaigns into the daylight, exposing the harm that would result, and the harm that had already been done. They forced policy change, set legal precedents and changed public opinion.

Fiona McAnena has been right there campaigning with them. Her unique insight and personal involvement brings to life the intimate human stories behind the movement to Keep Britain Terfy.

This extraordinary, inspiring, furious and sometimes funny account shows how a few women acting on their convictions turned back a tide which threatened to sweep away the rights their foremothers fought for.

Sounds like it will be a good read, lets hope it's an international best seller, because international could do with a bit of help with catching up, maybe they'll find some inspiration in the book. 😁

I ordered it a few weeks ago and the arrival date is estimated to be 9 August. I’m looking forward to reading it.

MarieDeGournay · 14/07/2025 17:18

I'm on the next island [next big island that is - not Ellan Vannin] along to the left, I'll be reading it with a lot of admiration for my brave neighbours, and quite a bit of envyEnvy

moto748e · 14/07/2025 17:27

Well, I already have the t-shirt... 😁

I must add it to my extensive GC library 📕

EmpressaurusKitty · 14/07/2025 18:43

My copy arrived today. I haven’t started it yet but I think it’s going to bring back a lot of memories.

The literature on this subject is truly incredible, so many women and a few men coming at it from different angles

It really adds backbone to arguments that have turned the tide

and what do the other side have?

a few nonsense 'inspiring' books by the likes of Paris Lees repeating the TWAW mantra

Davros · 14/07/2025 22:28

I had a thread a few months ago about “my terf library” and got some great suggestions. It should still be around if anyone wants to check their own stock

What the other side do have is a lot of books aimed at kids and young people, feeding them 'progressive' propaganda about sex being a spectrum, and that they can be whatever they want (physical reality no impediment), and that it's cool to be the other sex, and that gender identity is not only real but if you think you have one it is the only aspect of identity that matters. All very attractive (or at least fashionable), and packaged up with fancy autism handbook ribbons, right side of history flags, and suchlike. The answer to the human condition is the other sex's hormones and a crude imitation of their genitals.

I guess they have a lot of academic queer theory stuff too but are definitely lacking the sort of books that hit the sweet spot between being intellectual and popular

TerrierCollector · 15/07/2025 13:20

Does anyone know if it will be made available on Kindle? It's not showing as an option right now.

Lil272727 · 15/07/2025 14:35

Where did you buy it please? Id like to take it on holiday and 9/8 is too late. TIA

I pre-ordered it from Australia at the beginning of May.

I'd quite like a 'keep Britain terfy' postcard 😄with gender identity going in the bin

@BoiledBeetleI believe that this is your province.
May I, on Crouton's behalf, request a little of your AI magic?

Davros · 15/07/2025 23:56

@Crouton19 I love the slogan “keep Britain Terfy”, give the idea to LWS so I can buy a T-shirt

Computer says no

Here you go! Managed it by removing the word ‘identity’, apparently AI doesn’t mind this….

Fimofriend · 17/07/2025 13:19

I tried to see if I could reserve it in my library and instead I found an article called "Terf Island" by Madeleine Kearns in "National Review". It is short but good. Did you know this:
"Next, under Falkner’s leadership, the EHRC corrected its
schools guidance from 2014, which had previously suggested
it would be discriminatory for a school to refuse to refer to a
boy as a girl or vice versa. The EHRC clarified that schools are
in fact legally obliged to provide separate sex-based facilities
for boys and girls."
Well, that was ignored for a couple of years.

CrathieMom · 18/07/2025 15:24

I requested this book from my local library, and they informed me that they would not be purchasing it. Every other newly-published book I have ordered has been purchased. Censorship? Maybe, in a place where the librarians wear rainbow lanyards.
