I haven't got it yet, but this new book has impressed Helen Joyce, Sharron Davies and many others: I imagine Mumsnet gets a starring role.

That is either cheeky or scummy behaviour. There are a lot of those sorts of self-published books on the Kindle platform with similar enough titles to confuse people who aren't paying attention.

I'll report them both.

I've reported them both to Amazon, using the drop down menu, as counterfeit although that's probably not accurate it was the best option. Having had a quick look at the sample they're not identical. I believe they're written by AI.

I've reported them too. I also reported the original fake title a few days ago so I'm glad to see Amazon acted on the reports they received and removed the book.

The publishers are on it, thanks to @iCakethereforeIam for alerting us. Here’s what they say:

They’ve been created and uploaded by unknown third‑party self‑publishers using Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing platform. It’s an open system: anyone can upload a book with minimal checks, assign an ISBN (often one generated by Amazon itself), and make it available worldwide almost instantly.

Because of that, we can’t stop new listings from appearing. What we can do — and have been doing — is react quickly each time: lodge infringement complaints, provide clear evidence, and push for removal. Even if Amazon takes a listing down, the same party can re‑upload under a new ASIN or ISBN. It’s very much a “fire‑fighting” situation, but we’re keeping pace with it.

I suspected something like that was going on. Do Amazon have no checks? What's to stop someone loading child porn, grooming manuals, terrorist propaganda or all sorts of unsavory stuff? Perhaps they have programs looking for trigger words? Self publishing stuff about Scunthorpe must be a nightmare!

There were listings for both these faux books on AbeBooks too.

The listing for 'Inside Terf Island' is still active. Perhaps the title and contents are different enough to be on the right side of legal? Or perhaps Amazon just haven't checked it yet. It's an indication of the care they have that their customers aren't being ripped off. No wonder there's so much jankey stuff on the site.
