I haven't got it yet, but this new book has impressed Helen Joyce, Sharron Davies and many others: I imagine Mumsnet gets a starring role.

Terf Island: How the UK Resisted Trans Ideology by Fiona McAnena. Director of campaigns, Sex Matters.

The United Kingdom has been labelled Terf Island - sometimes affectionately and sometimes contemptuously - for its successful resistance to transgender ideology.

This is the story of the brave and determined women who led the charge against trans activist demands which undermined their rights and jeopardised the physical and mental health of children. They dragged shadowy campaigns into the daylight, exposing the harm that would result, and the harm that had already been done. They forced policy change, set legal precedents and changed public opinion.

Fiona McAnena has been right there campaigning with them. Her unique insight and personal involvement brings to life the intimate human stories behind the movement to Keep Britain Terfy.

This extraordinary, inspiring, furious and sometimes funny account shows how a few women acting on their convictions turned back a tide which threatened to sweep away the rights their foremothers fought for.

Does anyone know if it will be made available on Kindle? It's not showing as an option right now.

Hello! Yes it will be available on Kindle. It's not showing yet but I hope very soon. And I hope you like the book. It's got photos!

@Crouton19 I love the slogan “keep Britain Terfy”, give the idea to LWS so I can buy a T-shirt

That slogan came from Ursula Doyle, the book editor who was forced out of publishing. She helped me with the blurb. I thought about promo badges with that on too but I haven't done it - feel free to do it!

I requested this book from my local library, and they informed me that they would not be purchasing it. Every other newly-published book I have ordered has been purchased. Censorship? Maybe, in a place where the librarians wear rainbow lanyards.

this is shocking but not surprising. did they give a reason? pls email me if you have more - [email protected] will reach me. thank you. Fiona
I forgot to say... this is the author :)

Hi Fiona, is it possible that it's because the book needs to be ordered from Australia? The book looks great but I wondered why you went with an Australian publisher rather than a British one.

It was released earlier in Australia than here so maybe it is worth asking again after 1 August when it will be available here. if libraries order direct from distributors, the UK one is called Gazelle. Otherwise they can get it from Blackwells, Amazon and independents. I found an Australian feminist publishing house which would publish the book and not police my language, and I'm very grateful to them.

I thought that had to be it - UK publishers seem to be generally captured?

I’ve preordered it on Amazon. No issues

It’s a great read, especially if you’ve lived through a lot of it!

Mollyollydolly · 26/07/2025 00:23

Mine arrived today via Amazon.

Startingtocollapse · 26/07/2025 00:29

Definitely going to get this

You should have prefaced that 'EvilAmazon', to be on the safe side! 😁

I have tried to order it from Waterstones but nada. Not even a "we don't have this in stock". Just says "Sorry. We did not find any results for "terf island" on Waterstones.com". Same result if I put in Fiona McAnena.

Peregrina · 26/07/2025 10:44

I ordered mine from Blackwells.

Bavariamaria · 26/07/2025 10:50

Ordered, thanks for the recommendation

CatOnAHotRadiator · 26/07/2025 11:15

Ordered. Hopefully it’ll be at home on my return from hols. Spotted that I’d not preordered Hallmarked Man either so that’s done too.

Peregrina · 26/07/2025 12:52

Whey hey. My book has just arrived.

I tried too yesterday. Same result, obviously. Don't necessarily see anything sinsiter in that, though.

Yes it looks like Waterstones are not stocking it. Have a look at Primrose Hill Books or check TerfIsland.com for links to buy. Hope you like it!

lcakethereforeIam · 01/08/2025 21:01

Just tried Waterstone's website. Tried the title and the ISBN no., ISBN 9781922964267. Computer said no. Feckers!

EmpressaurusKitty · 01/08/2025 21:17

Primrose Hill Books have signed copies.

I've just noticed the kindle version is available on Amazon now 👍😀

@DerryWitch - I don’t want be that person - but we need to keep the whole of the UK Terfy ☺️ not just Britain - to include the north portion of the other island too. Hope it’s catching all over Ireland.

Still it’s great branding and well done on getting published. Can’t wait to read.

We’ve got Terf Island about four of the English heroines, The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht about Scotland - it would be amazing if someone wrote a companion book about the Irish groups. I know a bit about The Countess & Not All Gays - Annaig Birdy was fantastic at the WDI conference last weekend - but not very much.
And I barely know anything about the women in Wales!
